A few years ago my dad living in Port St. Lucie, FL was approached by a door to door sales person from APX Alarm offering a free home security system, all he had to do was keep the sign up and pay for monitoring. As he was confined to a power chair and it came with a remote "panic button" he thought it was a decent idea to help keep himself and mom safe. About a year into the contract he suddenly passed away and mom needed to move out of the house and into a nursing home. We called APX and explained the situation to them. The woman we spoke to on the phone insisted that payments must still be made because "he signed a contract". By the way, my dad's name was the only name on the contract. My wife asked if this rep understood what "passed away" meant and offered to send APX a copy of his death certificate. The rep said "you can send whatever you want but he signed a contract". We sent them a copy anyways after we stopped laughing at this woman's stupidity. It turns out the stupidity must be company wide. After dealing with at least four other people and sending them a total of three death certificates dad was still getting billed. it was only after I e-mailed them and told them that if they were going to continue to harass us that I'd turn the matter over to my attorney who would be happy to prove at considerable expense to APX that you can't enforce a contract with a dead man that I finally stopped hearing from them.

I signed contract with APX alarm company in 2007, then supposedly renewed in 2010. APX sold out (unbeknownst to us) to Vivant Alarm. One day, our signs were changed in our yard, and new stickers were sent to us by Vivant to be placed in our windows. Fast forward to April this year, I called Vivant to ask if I was in anyway contracted to them. I was told "no". I had received a better offer through my insurance company. I switched over to ADP on April 5th, with a technician coming to the house, him calling Vivant through the security panel and switching us over to ADP's monitoring station. Done deal, so I thought. Until I realized in June that Vivant had debited 3 months of payments (April, May & June). Here I am paying 2 alarm companies, and Vivant isn't even monitoring us. I called Vivant , "customer services" says we owe them $1,000+ for the balance of the contract. They emailed me a contract that was dated April 2010, that we signed ( odd, because I have no record of this, nor do we ever remember re-signing a 39 month deal).

Additional information: I found out more information about Vivant Alarm; there are 1,457 closed complaints filed against them with the BBB, which instigated a Government Action to be filed against Vivant by the following States: Virginia, Oregon, Arkansas, and California. I would never have entered into an agreement with this company! It is tragic that these sell outs are forced upon us. Indeed, my contract states that "APX (or its asignee) to debit my account", which, means that I am holding the bag for this contract. right? Does anyone see a way out at all, since there are so many actions and complaints filed against this company? Any information would be helpful. thank you so much.

The Vivint salesman called as a referral from a FRIEND. I did need an alarm.. what I got was hours on the phone trying to solve installation issues.... billing issues... interesting I never got what I told the saleman from PROVO and he insisted I would get an outdoor camera....When I asked my friend if he was happy with his service.... he said, Yes but he was waiting on a camera.... I told him wow so was I. I have never seen the salesman again. I would not recommend Vivint to anyone.

We allowed APX now Vivint to come install their equipment in our home with the agreement that it would be free except for the monthly service for the space of 2 years. After that time we could cancel. After 3 years we were trying to cut cost and called now Vivint to cancel and we were told it had already renewed for 12 months. I then asked when I could cancel and they said to call in April.I called in April of the next year and the guy on the phone walked me throug the procedures to cancel which I did THAT day. The next month they called to see if I needed anything and I told thwm I had canceled and the guy said I didnt do it in time. What a bunch of LIARS! I tried to argue and got soo mad I hung up. They are now still billing me.

Since then I put a stop on my bank account so they cannot keep taking my money but now not so sure that they wont try to ruin my credit .

Was an APEX customer by default became Vivint. Had a 4 year contract .. after 3 equipment began to fail. After spending hours and hours to fix bad sensors, pad issues etc. was told equipment was told old and they did not have techs to work on it anymore. Refused to replace or repair without me paying for new equipment. Did not arm it for about 6 months, rather than waste any more time on the phone with them.

Contract expired, called to cancel, was told to email, did. Rec'd a call from a rep about 2 weeks later to find out why I was cancelling .. I explained of course apologies over and over. Assured me this was their fault, I agreed. Promised all would be taken care of account shut off not monitored anymore, offered me free pad, etc. anything they could do to keep me as a customer.

Called new service, 2 weeks later or so they come to install new equipment and alarm goes off. I call again, go thru the whole story again, no record of prior conversations, assured again blah blah. Then to top it off about 2 more weeks go by and I get a bill for 3 months of past due service. I did not go well with the next call.

Amazing how when under contract they would do nothing to help. When the contract ran out, they were offering the sun moon and starts ... a little too late.

These con men are quick to talk you into trading your present alarm co. With their upgraded service. Assuring you they would take care of notifying present co. After 3 days. I contacted my former co. Not cancelled. HaHa. Called salesman. Assured they would buyout $280 . Contract let me call my supervisor I will call you right. Back . No calls does not answer calls and co phone number just gets run around and around .wanted to continue service but after no response other than another number to call, I Decided to cancel contract. How can they be trusted? If wont. Or don't answer calls or know a manager or supervisor. Contacted credit card co. Cancelled payment and any further withdrawals. Have also contacted lawyer and state consumer affairs. Beware they are sophisticated crooks. Still do not know if any monitoring really occurs.

Vivint is the worst!!! Do not go with them. The so-called wireless system requires hard wiring!!! Don't let them tell you otherwise.

My family has tried the system for a few months like they talked us into. Now they refuse to remove the system and we are locked into a contract. We are not able to use the system at all, it is dysfunctional just like the company. These people are shysters and unethical. What a waste!

Vivint pressures you into an installation. I should have known when they refused to come the next day for installation. And then the installation took 7 hours! We even felt obligated to feed the installer. Do our foreheads say sucker or what? They promise energy savings that never materialize, refuse to give what was agreed to - i.e. second key pad with same functionality, have caused multiple false alarms because the ceiling fans, draperies, street traffic, and yes even squirrels jumping on the deck set off the alarms. We cannot cancel the alarm to the police because of the way the system is configured.

They told me a permit was pulled as required by city code but I should have known this was a lie because it was crammed down our throats and installed on a Saturday. My local PD does not need to be treated this way and neither do we.

We cannot deactivate the garage as promised, the thermostat will not work with a dual stage motor, the thermostat also resets and overrides our commands. When I asked for a thermostat manual I was told that it was so simple to use that one was not needed - WRONG! The furnace technician I needed to hire to try and get the thermostat working told me that it is a piece of crap and should not be used. Hence it proves out the situation that we do not command our own thermostat.

When I complained this litany to Vivant they said it does not matter what the sales rep said we are locked into a contract with the service. They then sent us a letter (as required by the Minnesota business regulators) stating that they have tried to contact us to correct the situation - when they have not so much as called as can be proven by our telephone logs. Such phony business practices to get around a requirement for doing business in the State of Minnesota.

No wonder they changed their company name from APX - they could not operate under the old name because of their devious practices. Be assured, that every chance I get, I let people know how deficient and devious the company is and that under no circumstances should anyone become a customer. I hear there is a class action lawsuit pending in Minnesota, which I am joining.

If you are interested in filing a formal complaint with the Minnesota DOC, the Minnesota attorney general's office, and the BBB the company license number is TS 01618. Hopefully local law enforcement agencies will ban the installations or at least require a permit, thus allowing them to refuse permits for all Vivint installations.

Dont have a contract or any thing i signed have for 2 years only

  • Jan 12, 2016

We signed up with Vivint Alarms when they were APX alarms, the salesman gave us the " Mrs Jones up the street had her home broke into, do you know Mrs Jones"?

of course we didn't but being in a new house (just moved in) and not knowing the community I thought it would be a good Idea, the main thing I was concerned about was my garage so I made sure the garage was included, the free system cam with two fobs and I asked the rep what was the range and he said 100 feet so using the fob to set the alarm from the alley was supposed to work.

The installers were around the corner and at my place the min we signed the three year contract Should have been my first clue, the main feature that I liked about the system was the fact i could just arm my garage and not the house in case i was out in front etc so i asked the installer how to activate this option while he was showing me the system and he said it didn't do it (my second clue).

Then we went for a drive to the mountains and set the alarm from the key fob and upon returning we found the fob would not set the alarm, we were gone the whole weekend with our house unprotected (third clue) we called APX/Vivnt and was told we need a extender installed in the garage (another 100.00).

The last couple of weeks the system would not arm every once and a while and i found if i opened the garage sliding door and re-closed it it would arm, so I'm out for coffee today and my wife calls me and told me the alarm went off so I said don't call the police I'll head right over, I was told the garage door was open, I get there and everything is locked, nothing open so i called Vivint and was put trough to tech support, I did all the work, changing the battery testing the system for the tech support guy to tell me the sensor is defective, its going to cost me a service call and possibly the part, I said

nope I've had enough of the nickle and diming and had the tech walk me through on how to disable the garage door.

(4th clue) the main reason I had the system installed was for the garage, i work from home, so I contact Vivint to inquire on when my contract was up and they said Aug 2012, the wife said we signed up for a three year term in May so I grabbed the contract and asked the rep to show me where it said 39 months not 36 as it was not visible to me, three minutes later he found it, I said while he was looking its pretty bad when i Vivint rep has a hard time finding it, sure enough the contract reads 39 months, the sales rep said three years, who the hell has a 39 month term????

so I said how do i get out of my contract and they said to find another alarm company to buy it out so I called around and inquired and found a company that would pay for 6 month on it but they require a installer code to access the system, i called Vivint again and was told Nope, can't get the code, they tell you to find another company and then won't pass it over.

There are a lot of people in my community that got this system and I will insure they all know about the clause on the automatic one year contract renewal, if you don't give them written notice within 60 days of your contract expiring you

automatically resign for a year.

I'm afraid to set my alarm when I leave my house, the back door chime just went off, it was wide open to begin with.

Vivint is a ripoff, buyer beware, read the fine print with these crooks, its

all empty promises with a faulty system that they won't back.

In order to get out of my contract I have to pay the remainder of the bill at 750.00 (50.00 per month) and I said, I have to pay you for getting rid of you to which they said yes.the company I just called ( supreme alarm Calgary) which is local charges 35.00 per month and have security cars that check your property. sure beats having two police cars at your house when the faulty equipment goes off. Which brings me to my next rant, I'm picking our daughter up from school, while I'm waiting Im talking to my wife on the phone, after I hang up there's a new message, its a lady with a heavy accent saying my alarm went off, to call a number to stop the police from showing up.

I write down the number and call it and someone answers Vivint home security, i think who's Vivint? I'm with APX and tell them i have the wrong number, i call back and listen to the message and check the number, its Vivint, long story short they changed the name of the company and didn't inform there clients first, i get home and there's two Calgary police service cars parked in front of my house.

I called Apx back and tore a strip off of them as I'm sure the Police have better things to do with there time then go to false alarm calls because a company changes there name without informing the people who pay for there service. three weeks later i get a letter informing me of the name change stay local people.

Vivint Canada sucks I can't and wont speak on the states. But vivint management sucks and don't think about working for vivint in eastern canada if you don't want to be under paid and over worked. The company is cheap and the manager CV treats you like s**t. He will insult you and your character with other workers and management. They will belittle you and vivint will take over your life with all there manditory conference calls daily and they have no remorse when it comes to telling you to work whenever and where ever.

I work for ROGERS CANADA now and here I am treated like a human being not a race dog. Be careful because you might be getting used equipment in you home. I was forced to use used equiptment all the time. They would still work but they came out of other peoples homes when they decided to cancel within the 30 day contract. We would then pick that pulled equiptment from the ex customers house and use it for new installs. Vivint please train your managers not to act like retired cops where they try to use reverse psychology when speaking with there workers.

My name is Hu Meng, a new immigrant. Id like to report a scam I experienced recently.

On July 1, 2012, Sunday,

when I was studying in my home, a salesman knocked my door, and I opened the door for him. He told me that he was selling Home Security Alarm System for his company called Vivint to this community, and he had got 9 signatures on the document from 9 customers, who agreed to use this service, and he was looking for the 10th customer, if it were me, I will enjoy 10-day free trial period to use it. At first, I was not interested in it, saying that I and my family are new comers to Canada living in an apartment for rent. Then he said, if I use his Home Security Alarm System, my insurance company will reduce the premium, and I can save money. He also said, within ten days of trial period I could cancel the service free of charge without any excuse. I was persuaded by him, and agree to use it temporarily for ten days. Then he showed me the SCHEDULE OF EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES of Vivint. On the form, he remarked all of the items are for free, and I just need to submit to him my void cheque for the trial use application procedure. I told him I would like to consider it today, and if I decided to use it, tomorrow I would give him the cheque. But he told me its for free, I can ask his company to cancel the service without any excuse within 10 days, no charge on me. Therefore, I gave it up, signed it and he got my void cheque. After that, he called his partner to come and installed the equipment in my home.

On July 9, 2012, I decide to cancel the service, and I sent a fax to his company , no response. On July 10, surprisingly, no sooner as I logged in my account atTD Banks Web site than I found that his company had deducted $151.49 from my account! I immediately called the company (phone: 800.216.5232), and a clerk recognized that it was the 9th day from the date of installation, and I had right to cancel it and the money could be refunded. Later on, no any corresponding action done by the company, no email, no telephone call, nothing. Next day, I sent a fax to it again, also I called the company to dispatch its technician to remove the equipment and make refunding for me. The clerk gave me to another department (he called it as

Cancellation Department, the telephone is : 800.216.5232 ext. 5022), but I never got access to it. Up to now, I found no further action was made by this company. It just ignores me.

The guy who persuaded me to install it didnt leave his telephone number to me.

Upon request, my TD Bank reversed the money back to my account in July 2012. However, the scam company VIVINT charged me again by $52 Canadian dollars at the end of July. Now, the TD Bank could do nothing to reverse the money.

Now, I need this company to refund me the wrongly deducted money and remove its equipment off my apartment, because it doesnt honor its policy, ignores my requests by means of faxes, phone calls, emails...

The following is the information concerning about my account in Vivint, the company:

  • Jan 12, 2016

I originally signed a 5 year contract with APX Alarm. I did research them beforehand and I did see a few complaints but not very many. The installers were polite and the system seemed to work fine. A couple months before my contract was up, I asked about canceling. They said I needed to contact them closer to the date that my contract will end. I contacted them a week before it ended and they said I needed to send an "Intent to Cancel" letter which they did tell me how to send that in. They never had the courtesy to remind me that any letters received after the date of auto renewal would be void and completely ignored. I sent in the form and a couple months later, they are still charging my credit card. When I complained they explained that my letter of intent to cancel was received 4 days after my contract automatically renewed for another year and there was nothing that they could do. They kept repeating that there was a South Carolina law (I'm in SC) that they had to follow and they could not change my contract in any way and they kept repeating that the information about auto renewal was clearly on my original contract that I signed 5 years ago.

My father purchased this home security with APEX first. He was 78 and Mom 79. Mom passed in 10-10-10 and Dad 2-1-11. The day before he passed away he was at home and I had Good Shepard Hospice there with us. The Alarm went off, it was defeaning, screccting, pounding, we could not figure out out to turn it OFF. I stepped outside the home to call the company as I could NOT hear. Still was loud outside as well. I told them to shut down ASAP, "my father is dying in his room!!!!" They told me to go in and push buttons, on the unit with them on line. I was put on hold and moved around. I kept telling them just shut it off, I can not even think. I got histerical and cried. Was ready to get a baseball bat. Finally they shut it down from somewhere? 10 min later All over Again! I was furious! I got a splitting migraine headache and the Hospice group were trying to keep us all calm. I never ever get headaches! I finally ripped it from wall!

The next few hours were the worst as my father was dying.

With a long list of things to address ASAP, did not get around to VIVINT till 3-8-11. I tried like hell to cancell. They used every contract trick in the book, and made me feel vulnerable. As if I was not already> Many Companies and people were at me. Hard to make decisions under grief and duress. They talked me into keeping it, at least till I sold the home.

Hence, my Problem! I moved out in August of 2011. The home was empty and I had a Real Estate Agent coming in almost daily. Again I had called 7-27-11 to Cancell. After much discussion they cut me a deal and made me feel guilty. Told me "9 times out of 10 the new owners will pick up there service". The Agent disconnected the unit and told buyers about the VIVINT service as a plus. I was still paying $44.99 auto deduct from a house account.

The Condo at 18 Landesdowne Drive, Wichita KS, 67220 finally sold on March 2, 2012. As I moved out of state to CA. Could not get a straight answer about the new owners acquiring their service. I called VIVINT on March 3, to see if owners picked up contract. They would have to reasearch, of course. Now, I have called several times, "All agents are busy, thank you, stay on the line and the next available agent will be with you shortly OR press 1 to leave a Voice mail" After I left 1st message, no longer able to leave a message or speak to an agent.

Went on-line and saw many others with similar issues. Unfortunately I do not have the paperwork as I left it with the Real Estate Agents Larry Parke 316-207-3399 and Cleve 316-993-6365.

I am now prepared to start a lawsuit, going back to when my Father died 2/2011. I have been in a long state of greif and coming back to my sences. I'm sure I am not the only one who has been abused and used in such a manner. It is extremely sad situation and needs to be addressed and VIVINT pay the Piper. Im sick of trying to be nice. Please help me. Tried to look them up on BBB KS as well. I am trying to get on with my life and want to finish this chapter so I can move on. Thank You in Advance!

Vivint will not allow me to cancel my service despite repeated attempts. They do not have a valid contract and refuse to stop billing me.

We had an APX alarm service for a period of over 4 years at our former address. During that time, APX became Vivint. We recently moved and sold our home and attempted to cancel our service with Vivint. They are telling us that we agreed to a 60 month term (which we have no recollection of) and they are citing a contract which has my husband's signature on it with NO DATE. I have asked them to cancel the service and have sent a formal cancellation request letter over two months ago. The company continued to bill me, and so I disputed the payment with my bank. I have since spoken with several contacts at Vivint with no resolution, and they claim I owe them $657.84 because they have a recorded phone conversation in which my husband supposedly agreed to a 60 year term (again, note the only paperwork we ever signed has no date). My husband has no recollection of agreeing to this, and the company will not allow us to listen to the phone call. I do not believe they have a legally binding agreement and demand that my service be cancelled as requested - which has been

repeatedly refused by Vivint.

Vivint APX Alarm Don't sign the contract Calgary, Alberta

we signed up with Vivint Alarms when they were APX alarms, the salesman gave us the " Mrs Jones up the street had her home broke into, do you know Mrs Jones"?
