I bought a used car (2000 Isuzu Rodeo) and had it inspected to find out what was wrong with it. It needed new brakes and rotors all the way around, had a bad tie rod on the front right, etc. etc. and nothing was wrong on the car on the left side. Nothing. I have that in writing on their first inspection report.
Their hourly labor charges are outrageous, so I had everything fixed by a private qualified mechanic. I go back for a reinspection and lo and behold—they tell me the tie rod was not replaced and that now there is a problem with the bearings on the front left, which was FINE before. I pay $20 for the reinspection, leave the shop and now the left front wheel is making grinding noises which it wasn't making before! I had had the car in to Bob's Wheel Alignment not 20 minutes before and THEY said tie rods and wheels were fine.
So, these places don't make money on inspections. They make money on repairs to cars they inspect. If there's nothing wrong they have to "find" or create a problem. I believe that's what University Tire & Auto did - they screwed with my left front wheel, creating a potentially dangerous and life-threatening mechanical condition in order to make money on an unnecessary repair.
Do not have any work done at University Tire & Auto in Charlottesville, VA. They're crooks.
