UHaul Reviews

I don't honestly know where to start with my incident as I am just in disbelief of the whole ordeal.

Reserved a 15' Uhaul online for pickup on July 3rd at 2pm. Arrived at the location for pickup at 330 and my reservation had been cancelled per my app. Called 1888 number and spoke with a rep, who was friendly and helpful. He verified everything and said because I was late that they cancelled it.

Except my email stated I could check in and do everything via my phone and anytime day or night. He wasn't able to get me a rental for that day but found another location with one for the next day, July 4th. Reserved it and paid in full $297.

July 4th go to the other location Valdosta Ga, Carter Prepaid and arrived 10 mins early for pickup at 11am. Start the no contact check in process and then prompted to go into the location and show them my code to get the keys. Except location is closed. No lights on and door is locked. I call 1888 number again and after a 15-20 min hold I finally speak with someone. She verifies all my info and location.

Uses Google to verify the hours and states that the company shows no holiday hours and that they are open. Well they are not open, I'm standing right here. After 10-15 mins go by we locate a man unlocking the door to a business next to it. He says he can go and grab the key for us but he isn't an employee there. Ok. Finally after all this we have key and finish check in process on app. By 12 we are in route to load the truck.

I reserved a 2 day rental and a 1 way trip.

July 6th (day of return): Decide to return it back to Valdosta and call to speak with a rep via 1888 number. She explains that they will convert it to a daily rental of $29.95/day and then .79/mile. Then adjust it and anything over what was paid will be additional. Great. Around11am (time uhaul needed to be returned) realize we are still an hour or so out.

Call 1888 number again, (hold times in excess of 60+ mins), use Facebook messenger whole holding. A rep through messenger states I could be charged for an additional day if it is not returned by 11am. So I call and speak with an employee at local branch in Valdosta. She stated as long as it is returned by 1, she wouldn't charge additional day. Great.

12pm huge fiasco happens and my boyfriend decides to take the truck without me and leaves. I wait 20-39 mins and decide to contact uhaul again to let them know I am no longer in possession of the uhaul. Again hold times were lengthy and I use messenger to contact them.

Gave her all info and name and address etc of my boyfriend. Reach out to local branch, no answer and called 5-6 times. Then send them a Facebook message. Finally I get a text at 315pm from boyfriend stating it's been dropped off. Call to confirm this with local branch and again no answer.

I received my final receipt via email Friday July 8th showing the additional $541.07 they debited from my account. Now I am out of pocket almost $1k not to mention the copious amounts of gas money I have shelled out. I spent $300, if not a little more, on gas alone. Now we are looking at $1300+ in my out of pocket. I could've put a down payment on a truck at a dealership.

In late March of this year, 2021, I was evicted from my home of 10 years due to Covid-19. The constables came one morning, unannounced and I had like an hour to get a moving truck and 3 storage units.

Fast forward 2 months, I start getting late notices when the first month was supposed to be free. I'm in a motel 6, 2 days in the hospital for a kidney infection, got out, and one day my bf comes in and says he was getting some stuff out of one of the storages, had 3 dollies full, gets all on elevator and elevator won't go up and just opens and closes so he goes to tell the manager and an employee comes out and locks up the elevator, WITH HIS PROPERTY INSIDE and says come back tomorrow when the elevator company fixes it.

He goes back the next day and his property is nowhere to be found so he finds an employee and says wheres my property? Guy says he was told to "put it somewhere" and when my bf got down there the only person who could tell him where he put it did just that. Now get this, he said he took it downstairs to the basement and put it in a corner way back in the back of the basement so nobody could get it. BULLSH*T

Well, it wasn't there and since then Uhaul has done nothing but lie, lie, lie. Since there were cameras everywhere we wanted to see the video, A month or more passed, still getting the runaround, different stories from no camera where he was to it'll take awhile before we can get the video from the security company. BULLSH*T

They had instant access to the video that supposedly didn't exist and the employee involved was fired a week later and they don't seem to remember who he was or how to reach him because he was just temporary. BULLSH*T

Filed an insurance claim, another month goes by, nobody contacted us or would discuss anything with us. He lost over $12,500 worth of equipment, clothes, camping equipment, and the keys to his truck that he had laid on the dolly, gone. He had to break into his truck, get new ignition, new door locks, etc. and those bastards offered $2,000 and pay off our units, (approx. $1,500) for 3+ months of total misery and agonizing over this lost property.

Oh, and by the way, Amerco is also the parent company for Repwest, the "insurance" company. Since then, we are still in those units and they are still charging us, we are at lien stage and will probably lose everything we own, and I mean everything. It's rape folks, it's just plain rape and not once but twice. We lost all of the property he needed to work, had to replace his truck parts, and pay out of pocket for that and they will auction off everything we own soon.

I even emailed Big Joe Shoen, no response. So now I know why Uhaul just lies about everything to cover their a*s. Because that's what Big Joe Shoen's teaches. Just ignore them, they'll go away. "Too big to fail?" Is UHaul the AIG of the moving and storage industry? He doesn't care about you and your insignificant a*s. All that matters is his bottom line. I'm in if there is a Class Action.

They quoted an all inclusive price saying that they could not print out the quote because of their computer system, and then raised the prices when I picked up the truck and when I was already in the middle of my move by adding an Environmental fee, charging more for pads & dollies, saying they had not included sales tax, and including only minimal miles.

When I complained politely,Harry, the manager, called me a Jerk, said I was starting a pissing contest, asked where I work so that he could harrass me at my workplace, told me that I should show him the written quote which they do not provide, etc. Harry refused to stop with insults, curses, and threats. Frank Grau the owner had sat silently staring at me all Three times I was in the Uhaul store.

Frank Grau told Harry to call the police on me when I asked for someone different to assist me. I remained polite. Harry rewrote the truck rental on my wife's name. When she asked if I could drive the rental truck, Harry replied "That's on You", whatever that meant. Harry continued being offensive by informing my wife that unlike me, she was nice. I complained to UHaul national. Harry told me that he didn't care if I complained. So, far, a day later, Uhaul National has not called me as promised.

Hello my name Jean Gordon former employee #1273170 I was recruited to U-Haul by Ty, I was employed at ACE parking and doing very well. Ty begged me to give my employer short notice of leave to get into this "Training Class", that was coming up and I even turned down another position offered to me by U-Haul to accommodate Ty's Urgent need to be in this great training class. So I attended the class that started 10/29/2018, Melissa was in charge of this "so called training class", which was shadowing others, as no phones or computer's to train on. As of Tuesday the 30th, we were sent home by Melissa at 2:00 pm for lack of internet and phone service. She sent myself and the other trainee 3 days out of the five day class. Melissa was hostile and unprofessional both in attitude during this whole ordeal.

By Friday I was on the phones taking calls and getting payments from customers. I noticed most of the calls and accounts had NO CONTACT from U-Haul since September 2017, and Melissa was the LAST person who made any notes, more than a year ago. I brought this to her attention and she was clearly angry I noticed and told me "mine my business", By Monday I was sending out mail as asked, taking payments and seemed to be fine. By Tuesday the 11/6/2018 I was fired by Diane and her supervisor, claiming "I wasn't catching on". This came from Melissa, as she was the so called trainer. This is so wrong, not only I can not go back to my former employer due to TY"S insistence, I haven't even been paid m last two days and have been given run around by HR and payroll, you have exceeded the AZ state law that DEMANDS you pay final check in 10 days. I have been on the phone daily trying to get my last check to NO avail.

So you convince people to not give the current employer 2 weeks notice, lie about a Training class, no working phones or computers to train, have them leave early 3 out of 5 training days and when you ask questions about accounts going unpaid for over a year, you fired them and break the law by NOT adhering to AZ State law. I thought you had better business practices, I was so wrong. I will encourage people via social media to NEVER do business with such a deceitful practices. This is so wrong on so many levels, day before Thanksgiving, still no pay check. I don't expect you to do the RIGHT thing, you haven't so far, but bad news travels fast, I've got nothing to lose. FYI, so management team never returns calls, emails or claims to be in meeting, is that part of U-Haul Mission Statement? If so, post it on your website. Jean G
