Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Reviews

BRING LOTS OF CASH! - My first visit to Tuffy's in Walled Lake was an overcharge experience from hell. I took in a Ford Explorer that needed an EGR valve replacement and a Rear Brake quote. The two piece EGR part was about $100. I received a quote for $600... umm.. two nuts that you heat and twist off, top of the engine, so nothing moved! $600. I told the owner "Its just an EGR replacement, how do you justify $600..... ?? I asked to speak to the mechanic that quoted it.... and he was just too busy to walk over 20 feet to explain how a 30 minute labor job would be $600!!

And if that isnt enough... the "knock" noise when I hit the brakes??? quoted $900 (REAR BRAKES ONLY !) Told me all the internals of back brakes and pads would be replaced (less than $100 in parts, which the parts didnt need replacing) Took the tire off myself, took pictures, the brake pads weren't even at half-life.

Turned down the "work" and "quote", as the car DID NOT NEED $1600 OF REPAIRS. The truck had a flat tire the next day.... due to a screw driven in the rear tire, undoubtly done by the shop cause I turned down their "service" I took off the tire and took pictures of perfectly good internals and brake pads. TUFFY CORPORATE, WHY ARENT YOU CALLING ME ???? And.... they cranked on the lug nuts SO TIGHT because I turned down their "service" See picture of my 4-way that broke as I tried to remove the lug nuts the next day. Had to pay someone to remove all lugs nuts and install properly.

Now after the first drive since service, the 4 wheel drive hubs are completely wasted... wonder how they sabataged those as well. Took truck to another local place... they replaced EGR for $125 AND removed all the lug nuts. They quote the rear brakes to just get some lubrication.

$125.00 versus Tuffy's $1643.00 Quotation. You need to trust your Mechanic,.... there is NOTHING to trust with these guys.

I gave two Stars, because the Quote was produced very quickly!

Ask auto parts suppliers about shady Tuffy.

How do I know the screw was them ? The screw was pushed into the tire...in the low ridge.. and pushed flush with the low point of rubber!...because he had to quote me, and I didn't buy!!

Did not do the work adequately...work they were NOT qualified to do and left me in a critical state with a car that had no power steering control and was leaking all over the place...was stable before going there and NO leaks...

Shop equipment out date. faulty, defective, dangerous to employees. no one there is ase certified, or macs a/c certified, but the new crew there are still servicing customer vehicles, giving customers the impression that they are certified. the new manager and management company are under strict rules to purchase the cheapest parts and still charge full dealer prices. owner doesnt care about the employees or their safety. leaking lifts, defective electrical outlets, leaking roof, water running down onto wires, cable lines, electrical outlets. owner has always forced a strict rule of 72% profit margin on everything, parts, labor, shop supplies, meanwhile owner purchases cheapest aftermarket products. when employees leave or are illegally terminated from their postion, owner will give them several different excuses not to release last week payroll. illegally withholding payroll. florida state labor board of wages and garnishments, epa, dep, osha, bbb, macs, chamber of commerce, and workers comp have all been notified. my suggestion to the local customers, is to stay far from this place.

I have had work done on my mazda at Tuffy's here in San Carlos Park Fort Myers in the last 3 years.Every single time I get my car back, something else is wrong out of the blue. I had over $3500 of work and labor costs. The most recent was them replacing one of the valve cover gaskets they installed in Nov2015.It has been leaking oil STILL. After they supposedly did that, the engine light is always on, The TPS light comes on intermittently, the power while driving the car is hesitating. And the battery is being drained overnight. I have to disconnect the battery every night in order for the car to start in the morning. I have been doing this since September 2015.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB on this shop, where the manager hides when I come in.

So, far, their response is they are going to let the owner know. He already knows as I have emailed the corporate office 2 times already these past 3 months.

Who in their RIGHT MIND would take their car back to the place that is sabotaging it? They refuse to have any other Tuffy shop look at it.

I feel like I am going to die in this car soon. It feels unsafe. I am so disgusted with this shop. I don't think it is fair to have me bring the car BACK to them. One of the employees there told me the battery is draining due to the amp in the radio? The radio has not been touched since 2007. There is nothing new that was done to the radio. Yet when I went to pick my car up at the shop, it was dead. So much for taking the radio fuse out. Advanced auto where I bought the battery ran a test and said the oil that was leaking out of the defective valve cover gasket, leaked onto the alternator causing it to short out. Tuffys ignored this advice. So here I am not knowing if I will die in this car soon.

On 12/18/2015 Went to Tuffy's for simple service on my car. I asked them to perform an oil change and rotate and balance 4 tires. They completed the service in about an hour and charged a fair price. A day later I decided to check the oil level just to be sure and discovered oil spilled on the top of my engine cover (it had spread and made quite a mess) which they should have wiped up before they finished with the car. The oil level was good but then I noticed that the oil filter (which is in plain view on this car) look not to have been changed. I could not see the brand to be sure so I went to the local auto parts store and bought a new filter and one quart of oil ($14.61). I removed the suspect oil filter and replaced it with the one I bought and indeed they had not bothered to change the oil filter (Tuffy did charge me for the filter). While doing this I noticed that there were oil droplets all over the bottom of the frame rails as well which I wiped off. The whole job looked like very poor workmanship. I took the old filter and went back to the shop and spoke with Greg the Manager. He agreed that the filter had not been changed and made no excuses. I asked him how I could ever come back for more service. He said that he would not blame me and apologized. I have been to a number of franchised shops in Naples and have found Tuffy's to be no exception. Too bad.
