Tristar Consumer Law Reviews

  • Jul 2, 2018

Back in March 2016, Tristar Consumer Law, previously Thacker & Associates, called me in regards to a debt relief program. Being that I was severly in debt and my credit score was low, I pretty much jumped at the opportunity. They promised to get about $8,000 worth of credit card debt relieved and removed completely off my credit report. One of the conditions was that I was to avoid applying for any other types of credit while on the program. With my finances being the way they are, there have been many times where I've reluctantly had to apply for credit.

The other condition was that I was to pay $150 over the course of 20 months, which comes out to $3,000. After my last payment about 3 weeks ago, I got a letter from them saying they were "no longer representing me", and that I "breached contract". The letter looked completely bogus for starters. There was no official header, no account or payment information, and no contact phone number.

I immediately called them, but got no answer, so I left a voicemail. This was about a week and a half ago. I called them again a couple days later, and still was unable to reach them, so I left another voicemail. Also, just to note, when I called the first time, their automated message introduced them as Tristar Consumer Law.

When I called the second time, the message introduced them as Thacker and Associates. In the letter they sent, they said Tristar "took over" Thacker. I never knew this and never received any notifaction informing me of such. Even if their reasoning behind dropping me as a customer was the fact that I applied for credit during the program when I wasn't supposed to, there's NO way of me knowing because they refuse to return my phone calls. I paid them the money, I did everything but that, and I don't even get a letter specifying what I did wrong.

This all makes me think that I was scammed. I also looked up their Facebook profile, and saw a post from a woman describing her experience with Tristar, and it sounded a LOT like mine! She got a letter stating she was being dropped as a customer after paying them $4,000. She also stated that she's reached out to a lawyer to take things a step further. And in regards to "breaching contract", in the contract I have, it was stated that THEY had an obligation to ME to keep me up to date on what was going on with my credit reports, and to provide me coaching about my accounts.

NONE of this happened, not once. No one called me ONE time the whole program to assist me with the program in any way. My last point is, I think it's also very predatory and disgusting that they literally waited until AFTER I payed them $3,000 to drop me as a client. I say all this to say, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH TRISTAR CONSUMER LAW. You will regret it immensly. I've contacted my bank and processed a fraud claim, so I'm hoping that my story and taking action will help other people from being scammed by this horrible company.
