The Fish Team Realty Reviews

  • Dec 12, 2019

This truthful report is being written under Free Speech - 1st Ammendment to the US Constitution and is based upon an actual - and horrible - experience.

My husband and I are senior citizens. We lived in Georgia for 10 years and had a desire to move to Maine. We did not know much about the area, and needed a true buyer's agent to guide us.

Unfortunately we used Carolyn Fish of the Fish Team Realty in Bangor, Maine. I wish we never met her, but Hindsight is 20/20 as we all know.

Her promise to us - in a Buyer's Agency Agreement - that she give us the best experience we ever had with her 29 plus years of experience. Well, this turned out to be very far from the truth.

In June, 2016, we got an offer on our Georgia home. I flew to Bangor, Maine alone because my husband needed to stay home. Carolyn Fish knew that I needed guidance and did not drive. I was dependent upon her to find us a great home.

She knew I needed a large home. She showed me a large home in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine - an area I knew nothing of. The home - seemed suitable, and Carolyn Fish raved about the area being Up and Coming. Also that one of her friends lived there.

The home was listed for $ 295,000, and the sellers accepted my $ 275,000 offer. What Carolyn Fish, with all of her experience and knowledge, FAILED to tell me was:

Dover-Foxcroft is an area where people go for cheap homes.

Dover-Foxcroft is an area where homes sit on the market a long while and are difficult to re-sell.

Dover- Foxcroft is an area where people are moving away from - especially young people.

Carolyn Fish knew that the house was overpriced and yet she allowed me to pay too much - without any guidance.

Carolyn Fish allowed the seller's agents to totally get the sellers all they wanted from me - including a clause, where we would have to pay the seller's $ 25,000 if we did not buy the home. This did not seem right to me, but Carolyn Fish said it was fine because we were out of state sellers. Foolishly, I believed her.

Thus, Carolyn Fish LOCKED us into this deal, with no way out.

Carolyn Fish recommended a home inspection company, called Perkins Home Services. The inspection missed 10 major things, which later cost us money, and they would not help us in any way. Perkins was horrible to deal with, and said to us WE DID THE INSPECTION, YOU PAID US AND WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING.

Carolyn Fish agreed to do the final walk through for us, since we were in Georgia packing and handling a difficult escrow. However, Carolyn Fish failed to tell us the true condition of the home and allowed the sellers to leave the home in Dirty and Damaged Condition.

When we moved there in August, 2016, we were horrified at the condition and damages to the home that Carolyn Fish failed to tell us. I found 25 multiple items wrong. Carolyn Fish failed to make things right for us. Her broker would not help us. She got her commission and did not care.

To make a long story short, I suffered a nervous breakdown for about 1 full year. We had to re-sell the home quickly for the $ 235,000 is was actually worth in the market. A $ 40,000 loss, but all repairs, commission and moving again costs.

I tried to find a decent lawyer, but could not afford the $50,000 it would take to take her to trial. Also, some lawyers had a conflict of interest as they deal with realtors all the time.

I filed a complaint with the Greater Bangor and Maine Real Esate Associations, but they would not accept the complaint - even though I told them of my nervous breakdown. Carolyn Fish has FRIENDS in both agencies.

I filed a complaint with the Maine Real Estate Commission in 2017, but the investigator was biased against us and there was a conflict of interest also. As a result, our valid complaint was wrongfully dismissed. That dismissal "Put the Nail in the Coffin" of any chance I had with any lawyer, who might have had an interest in our case.

I got no where with any State Government Agency I tried to get help from. Not the Attorney General's Office, Not the Human Resources, Not the Maine Commissioner and not from the Governor.

A couple of lawyers told me that I should not have filed a complaint with the Maine Real Estate Commission due to the fact that they are more of a Realtor Protection Agency and not generally helpful to the citizen.

They were sympathetic to us, but could not help us because we had no money to pay for court and trial costs. Such is the injustice for the poor. This whole horrific experience bothers me to this very day. There is not one day that goes by that I do not think about this.

We want to offer these words of advise to all readers here. Just because an agent has the word, REALTOR in front of their name, it does not mean a Hill of Beans. One must research their agent before they hire them. Get referrals and references. Search review sites, such as this Rip Off Report and other sites.

We did not do this, and wish we had done our research. Needless to say, we do NOT recommend Carolyn Fish as a buyer's agent. We are grateful to this site, which is the last line of defense for people who have been gravely harmed by any business or company.

Signed,

Two seniors who got a raw deal.

Grateful to the US Supreme Court for upholding such reviews as Free Speech.
