Joe met my friend and gave him his card. My friend and I were both to have dents and scratches taken out of our vehicles. Joe told me the price was $450 and I said I'd get back to him. Then he dropped the price because he had just gotten another customer with my exact paint and he was going to give me a deal. So, I went first as the guinea pig.

He did something to my car so that I could tell that there were no more dents/dings, but he left a "wax" on it which was white. My car is silver. He said to wait until tomorrow or that night to wipe it off. I thought that the white color of it would fade by the time that I had to drive it. It had not faded by 6pm, so I wiped off some of it being about 6 hours since he completed the work. It was embarrasing to drive with all that crap on it.

Anyway the next day, I used water and tried to wipe it off and some of it would not come off, so I called him to tell him to come back and also to please clean up the mess in my garage that he left because my neighbor complained.

He kept telling me he would and never did and then stopped responding. I had friends calling him too. He refused to fix the mess he left. Also, the color is not right, it is not shiny. Thanks for messing up my car!

The Car Guy's - unfinished job, ran away with my money

Joe signaled to my minivan to stop in a parking lot in Sunnyvale CA in early Aug 2018. He said he could fix scratches and dents for $600. He took the color code from my minivan and bought the paint. He sort of removed the dent and then sanded and "filled" the holes and scratches and sprayed paint. And then he applied a wax layer saying I should wash this off with a garden hose the next day. I paid him $600 and he left. And when I washed the car, the wax markings did not wash off.

He refused to return my texts and voice messages. Finally, after 2 weeks I threatened him with police action and he called back immediately, apologizing. He came back and tried fixing the damage and applied wax once again and suggested that I go to the car wash in 24 hours. I did that and the wax markings did not go. I had pre-arranged for him to come in a couple of days just in case this time something did not work as expected. And then when I reached out to him to tell him that the wax markings were still there, he texted me back saying he was coming to fix it and stopped responding to my text messages.

He uses (626) 734-8541 as his mobile number and does business as "The Car Guy's". His business card does not show any address or last name. Just says "ask for Joe".

He drives a RAM 1500 pickup truck with license plate number 70643M1 and colored copper sulphate blue.

I have pictures and video of him working on my minivan and have reported the matter to the police.

I looked up whitepages and it shows that this phone number is registered with a lady living in southern California.

Unfinished Repair Job

This same exact scenario thing happened to me Summer 2015 in Marina del Rey with the same phone number. Apparently this is a pretty common scam. The auto-body repair shop that finished my job called these guys repair gypsies. Lesson learned, if it seems too good to be true, it is. I hounded him over text for months and he kept making excuses on why he couldn't come back to finish the job.

Met the guy today

Met the same guy today. He presented me a business card and told me he can fix the dent on my minivan and described how to fix it, sounds good to me. Then, he told me that the dent on my minivan will cost $2000 At a body shop, but he can fix for $300. I told him I need to pick up my kid and can't do it now. He said he can fix the issue in 45 minutes and he can follow me to fix it anywhere. I didn't feel comfortable that having a stranger following me, so I told him I will think about it and call him later. He didn't like it and pushed me that if I couldn't agree to let him to do now and call later, the price would be company price, not his personal price. And then he emphasized he can do it in 30 minutes. At that moment, I was cautious because $300/30minutes is $600 hour rate and suspected what he can do in 30 minutes. So I insisted I will call him later, then he was a little upset and left with saying I waste his time....

Then I find this page and confirm what I suspect, thanks all of people posting here.

Same guy conned me.

Same Joe (626-734-2114) conned me. He will talk nicely before he gets our acceptance and intimidates us once we are not happy to get the money. Later he wont even respond. Beware of this scammer.

The Car Guy

He calls himself the car Guy now. He saw my truck in Goleta California after I had scraped it on a light pole in a parking lot.

He said he worked locally and had the day off but needed some money so offered to repair it in a few hours, for a four hundred dollars, he added that he could match the paint for a little more. I thought wow where did this guy come from. A miracle perhaps. So he came to my house and worked in my drive.

I am normally trusting and can usually read people pretty well. He told me you do not have to pay me until the job is done which I entended to do.

But a friend came by and I was entertaining and new it would be well past dinner before the friends left.

I stepped out to check on the work and he said he was almost complete. With the painting.

I told him thanks and went ahead and paid him and asked just clean up before he left. He said all part of the job.

The next morning I step outside and the first thing i notice is the mess was not cleaned up. Some of his trash was in my truck bed.

No worries i will clean that. But then i inspected the job. He missed several spots, and the body work was not finished. One of tha dents was still visible.

So I texted him and told him, sent him the pics. He apologized and said he would come back to fix it. We scheduled an appointment. He never showed. I texted he did not respond. I called his voice says leave a message. I left three. Today I googled his phone number. And found this page. I feel foolish and wished I had not paid him as much. He did a half ass job and I should have waited to pay him.

I am responsible for letting someone fool me. I suspect that he knows his craft, and he can do the work. But he is scamming by promising a finished professional look for the cost of labor only. I would have paid $1000 to get it done at a body shop. He cost me $500 to make it look like I fixed it myself.

The scammer Joe

Basically, I had same experience with others guy, the same situation and the same dirty job that joe did on my vehicle. ALSO, I spent on $1414 dollars on fixed my rear bumper but it is disaster.

He will claim that you only spend labor work for $600 then he has promotion that you pay first then get the full amount of material cost by check.

However, after a day, he called back to claim that the min is $2000 to process this transaction. Then, I realize this guy is a Scammer.

Stay a way from this guy, if u meet him on gas station.

And, wish him go the hell and dead in the accident.

By th way, his phone number is 626-7342114

Vehicle model is Toyota Prius

Scammed in Marina Del Rey

Lesson learned do not trust anyone but a certified body shop. My story matches everyone else's here. He did body work on my car leaving it covered with a white goo saying underneath was fixed, which it was not. He was supposed to return the following week to install a side mirror and never showed. He made excuses over text then blocked my number. Always go to a licensed repair shop. My $1,200 repair job will now cost me over $2k to fix.
