Terminix Reviews

We had a contract that was extremely expensive the first year. It was supposed to become much less expensive the second year. We also had a bond from the previous owner that we did not want to lose. So they took full advantage. Here’s what Terminex did. First rep they sent out told us we need to tent the house. He lied. The next 3 inspectors from Terminex said that we did not. This is how they welcomed us to their company. Next, they had a card on file that expired. They called me for a new card. I provided a new card. They charged it and after providing the new card I keep receiving "thank you for your payment” emails. A few months went by and I noticed large ants in the backyard. I call them and they tell me they sent me to collections! They were incompetent and kept trying to charge the older card when they had the new card on file. After months of reaching out (and I have it all in text messages) they never responded to me after every rep agreeing with me and telling me that I am correct and they will help take care of it. I had at least 10 reps tell me they will escalate this and no one ever took care of it or called me back other than Steven. Who told me he will help and also never called me back. Terminex wanted to charge me for months they were not at my house. Which they sent me to collections for when they have the correct card and sent me thank you letters monthly. It gets better, after fighting with many reps. I end up asking them to charge the last card they charged without giving them the numbers again. This is proof they had the correct card on file (this is all in text messages) and viola I pay for months no one services my house. I didn’t want to lose the bond, I needed the service and I know that my cost will go down since I already paid the first year in full. So I get a call from Steven again now that I paid their ridiculous charges who called me to tell me they will not honor the first year and the account will need to reset and I should pay these high payment for another year!!!

Buyer Beware: Bed Bug service waste of money!

Terminix has a bed bug service that is grossly ineffective, but promises the world, as told to us by eli neish, salesman for terminix. After spending a week fogging, spraying and spreading borax throughout the house, we felt we needed a pro to get things under control. Eli promised us fogging, steam, spray, bagging our clothes, spraying underneath furniture, and a mattress cover for the bed. They treated the bed, and put it in a cover. Maybe they sprayed the baseboards.

Nothing else was done. We left them at 10:30...We drove by at 11:00, truck was gone! We know they didn't do much because placement of pillows and clothes was exactly how we left them. There was also a light film of borax throughout, which didn't show any spray indications or hand prints.

Given the research we did on the issue, and how hard it is to get rid of them, this service was ineffective, even if done correctly. Terminix offered us only $700 back, which was about half of what we paid.

Their service rep., kenley joseph was condescending and unprofessional, and denied most of our issues.

The branch manager, tim love, ([email protected]) just passed the buck. We are still working with our bank for a refund, and will take legal action if necessary.

If you have a bed bug problem, do your research and skip terminix!

I bought tick protection where they will come out and spray and if problems they will come out again. The first man took a lot of time to spray but we were still plaged with ticks. The second guy "said" he sprayed the entire 2 acres in less than 2 minutes. Several days later, while working in the front yard, I found three ticks attached to me and a number more in the coming day. All these were near our house. So I called Terminix. The first lady who answered was very nice and when I asked to speak to a supervisor of our service area office she said she left a message with that area manager - no one called. The second time I called I asked for a supervisor who was above our area office and asked for another spraying. We stayed home on the day that they were suppose to spray but no one came and no one called to say the spraying had been canceled and no supervisor called from any office as I had asked. So after not hearing anything from Terminix for several weeks I again called to find out when the next spraying was. This lady did have a date but Terminix didn't inform me. Very calmly and being nice I again asked to speak to a supervisor. This time the lady asked me why and in a calm voice I went over my recent history with this company - she hung up on me. The service in so very many ways is extremely poor and I very much question if the product works.

1. In April 2022; I needed basic service for pest in my home; a service I usually get with Terminix without any contracts tied to it and I am able to cancel as soon as I need to.

2. Salesman used sneaky, dishonest sales pitch in which I unknowingly signed up for a bundle CONTRACT/AGREEMENT that had fees associated with for cancelling. I would never knowingly sign up for a contract (especially with fees associated) since I knew I would only occupy the home for 1 month; then rent or sell.

3. 7-11-22: Manager George Morteriday stated he would do everything possible to send my request to his regional manager to cancel the contract without cancelation fees.

4. 7-14-22: Manager George retracts his early statement to cancel the contract without fees; citing "he didnt know" their company specifications and he basically inference its my word againt his saleman, Audre word.

This company are liars and scammers! They constantly miss appointments. They have missed almost every appointment and then sent a text or email like the came about but they never did. I would know as I have outside cameras. I have to keep calling and making new appointments.

Their customer service is the worst! They are rude and hateful and you can tell that they hate working there for these scammers. If their pest control guy showed up at all he did not have the things he needed to do the job. He was missing tools or supplies / chemicals.

He would promise to come back but would not. I called to complain and they argued and ignored me. This happened repeatedly. I tried to cancel and they wanted me to pay for a full year and said I could only cancel at the very end with a very small window before they auto renew.

So I waited the year and called in to cancel then they said they want to come out and dig up the terminate bait traps I had paid for all year! What a total scam. These folks are a total scam. DO NOT TRUST THEM THEY WILL LIE AND CHEET YOU!

  • Oct 16, 2021

The aggressive sales person made me sign a one year contract in his tablet in his first visit and did not mention at all the very high early termination fees that they charge. The service was substandard with Terminix making rushed visits and not following through on commitments from the aggressive sales guy in terms of where the pest control treatment should be done (I.e. attic).

When I wanted to cancel the cost for cancelling was going to be almost the same monthly cost than the service. They alleged they sent me the contract by email after I signed it but I never received it. Stay away from Terminix! They will rip you off.

I originally scheduled a 10am-12pm window for a Monday cockroach infestation inspection.

I was waiting for 2 hours, but didn't hear anything.

I called dispatch. The dispatcher called the driver and told me Marlin was 25 minutes away and on his way. I requested he call when he's a few minutes away as there were special parking and entry instructions. She said she'd call him again and tell him.

30 minutes later I didn't hear anything. So I waited longer. After an hour I called in. The dispatcher said the inspector was only doing a roach inspection and that's why he might not have shown up since they don't do write-ups for roach inspections.

I said that's not what I was told. So she asked a manager and said write-ups for roach inspections were at the inspector's discretion. Some do them and some don't.

I asked her to call the inspector. She couldn't reach him. She said he was behind. But I said I still wanted the service.

At 2pm no one showed up. I called back. The dispatcher told me a previous dispatcher had cancelled the service much earlier. I was livid. I told her every dispatcher told me the inspector was still on his way and I always said I still wanted the service. I asked how this could happen and she said they're poorly trained.

Because of this I needlessly wasted 4 hours of my time.

She offered to reschedule for that upcoming Thursday from 1-3pm. I was disappointed but figured I'd give them one more shot.

Fast forward to Wednesday (the day before) and I get a call that afternoon from an inspector telling me I wasn't home and asking if he had the right address. After calling him back, I was furious but realized it wasn't his fault.

When I called Terminix they saw the notes they were supposed to schedule on Thursday from 1-3pm but put me down for Wednesday from 1-3pm.

I was stupefied by how incompetent they were so filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau since they screwed up majorly; twice in 2 days to be exact.

About a week later -- Shawn Watkins the Branch Sales Manager -- called me and offered to give me a free 3 months of service. I explained that I was not interested in the free service because not only did they waste 4 hours of my time but on the second attempt the inspector came on the wrong day and spoke to my property owner. Because of that it escalated a conflict, which forced me to leave.

After that Shawn responded that he needed to tell his supervisors something because they were going to keep on him until the complaint was closed. I said they could reimburse me. He asked me what 4 hours of my time was worth. I said I didn't know. He reiterated that he had to tell his supervisor's something. That's when I said $150.

Shawn said he would tell his supervisors that but he couldn't guarantee they'd approve it.

I said I understood. Then he responded that he'd call me back and let me know either way.

I never heard from him again. That is until I saw his written response with the BBB, which stated that I was demanding and hung up on him. This literally never happened and I have proof.

Terminix and Shawn Watkins are unethical beyond belief. First of all, they are completely incompetent. Then when they can't deliver what they say they will, they'll lie their way out of it.

Whatever you do, do not utilize Terminix's services. And steer clear of Shawn Watkins!

They got me for $1,000.00! I should have looked around before I gave them my CC.

A gentlemn from Terminix came out to the house for a consultation on replacing two small holes where rats chewed the mesh, set traps, and come back for removal. They quoted me for $1,000.00! After I paid with my credit card something didn't feel right. The next day I called around and would you believe 3 competitors rates were half the price! with a warranty renewal half the price! I knew this seemed like too much. Terminix is extremely overpriced compated to there competitors by a 90% premium! I called customer service to cancel and request refund. They immediately and caually offered to lower my fee as if they were use to this kind of thing.

So they high balled me the initial time. Turns out customer service can cancel the workman to come to the house but they can't process refund. I was told the branch manager has to handle that. When I called the rep after canelling workman he said he will price match what the competitor is offering as part of there "client retainment program" So I gave him the chance because I thought he was nice guy. I told to the penny what the competitor offered with no exaggeration. He checked with his manageres Chris, and Matt and then called me back.

They would not price match! what the heck. Ok. So I requested my refund. He said not to worry that the work was just reserved on my credit card. The next day my credit card was charged! I called the rep back and he said it will take up to 7 to 10 business days for a refund. Wow. These guys are taking advantage of people that have real problems with pests, and they are not straight with you about things. Do not get taken advantage of this company look around if you can.

I has this product installed in my house on friday march 2nd 2018 a rep came out wed feb 28th 2018 for an inspection of the house at the time my appointment was 3 to 5 the rep did not come until well after 6pm this is only after i called at 5 to find out what was going on. when the rep came i informed him that my main concern was mice that i had in my basement. An appointment was set for friday march 2nd. the appointment time was 8 to 12 again the rep was late i called at 915 to find out what time the rep would be coming i was told that they would have to find a rep for me and they would inform me when he would be here. i then received a call saying the rep would be there around 10. the rep then laid wooden mice traps 1 bait station and glue pads. and 2 termite stations and sprayed. i called on saturday because i was not satisfied with traps that were laid i was told that the next appointment would be 1 week from then. on sunday i once again called to cancel my service the lady was very combative and told me that i was not playing for just mice control but mostly termite, i informed her that my main concern was mice not termites and that i was not happy with how i was being treated and talked to . i was told that a manager would contact me in 24 to 48hours. after hanging up i called the local number on my contract to again express my concerns about how i was being treated as well as how the lady was talking to me and the lack of professionalism i was told that this would be escalated and again a manger would be calling me in 24 to 48hrs. today is not thursday march 8th at 12:11 i again called to say that i have not received a call from a manager in regards to my canceling services. i was told that the manager is in a meeting and they would call me i then asked if i could talk to a manager in that department and was told that the manager was on lunch. the professionalism is horrible at this company i have sent a letter to the bbb and am extremely disappointed with how i am being treated

7/8 – contract, was advised by salesman – – to contact him for anything. He “had me” which I took to me he was my direct contact within Terminix. Theodore advised it is better the insect/mice traps prior to the exclusion work. Gives the mice time to, as he said it “get out”. The exclusion work will block all entry points.

Schedule insect work for 7/15

Schedule exclusion work for 7/18

7/10 – “worker text received that he would be coming on 7/11 for Insect. I advised this was scheduled for 7/15. He responded he wasn’t available then. He would need to reschedule for later

7/10 – emailed salesman – about the mix up in what he scheduled on 7/8. His response “hey no I’m sorry I don’t know what anything about a pest technicans schedule is the only thing I can tell you is to call him and see when he will be coming back.”

I responded by asking him what HE scheduled for work at my home on Saturday.

His response –“I’m sorry I will find that answer out on when they are coming and then also will find out why Saturday is not going to work being that is the only day that works for you that’s why we scheduled it on Saturday I making a note of that now please forgive me I will have that resolved in the morning I’m sorry again thank you”

7/15 – Insects – work complete

7/18 – Exclusion - Rodents/termites – termite trap left lying on the ground.

7/18 – emailed salesman and manager requesting explanation of ticket after work complete vs. details in the contract signed on 7/18. Ticket from Terminix did not match my contract.

No response

7/21 – followed up with email to same 2 gentlemen requesting their clarification – No response

7/27 – evidence found that mice still inside – drawers under stove, drawers to the left of stove, under sink, fireplace hearth

7/28 – contacted 800 number requesting refund of work – not completed (more insects than I have ever had before, termite trap found lying on group and mice still in my house). Was advised no refund until after Terminix had an opportunity to respond to my issues.

the service manager would contact me.

Scheduled insect work for 7/31 – to address the insurgence of insects

Termite trap was properly installed

No response from Manager

8/3 – contacted 800 (spoke to xxx) to advise I have given Terminix an opportunity to address all issues and they have not. Was advised that manager would contact me. He has not.

I want a refund.

8/7 – Contacted Service Master who provided a number for the Terminix receptionist in Memphis. I called ~9:30 EST and the voicemail communicated that no one would be there to answer the phone until 8:00 am CST. I began to randomly select 4 digit extensions to get someone on the telephone. Reached xxx. Sent xxx the above information. xxx advised that the manager had notated my account that he attempted to call me. I advised that I had no VM or email from the manager

8/7 – 10:24 am – I was contacted by Terminix Johnson City, Manager. He and salesperson Theodore, would come by to inspect the work previously ‘completed’. At my convenience, but it couldn’t be after 5:00 on several days because he needed to take care of child’s game or something. So the visit was schedule for Friday at 4:30. Received a call at 3:30 Friday that ‘it was raining where Tyler and Theodore were and could they reschedule…..at my convenience’. The visit was rescheduled for 5:45pm Monday, 8/14.

BTW – manager said today was the first he had heard I was unhappy. He had no idea.

8/14 – salesman arrived before 5:45 pm. He walked around the house and confirmed that the work had not been completed as contracted. BTW – Tyler never showed up, never reached out.

salesman put in an emergency order and I requested documentation of what had not been completed, confirmation of when they would arrive to correct and then written confirmation by an inspector that the work was completed as contracted. I have received nothing as of 8:30am EST 8/15.

8/15 – Sent the above detail to xxx at Teminix in Memphis as an update on what has transpired since 8/7. I requested a refund and also ask that if my request should be made to someone else to please advise me.

8/16 – 10:43 – Rec’d email from salesman that he ‘talked to the service manager and he is going to get you back on the schedule to come back to finish up.

11:37 – I replied asking for this person’s name.

12:41 – TV replied with – xx the serv Manager (

12:49 – I reminded salesman that I have still not received the documentation he committed to sending me on 8/14.

8/17 – 10:00 am – no contact from the service manager, to schedule work as contracted on 7/8. Salesman has not sent the documentation detailing what Terminix did not complete as contracted. Sent salesman and xx in corporate another request for the documentation.

In 2014 several of my neighbors were getting their houses tented for termites so I decided I'd better get an inspection. I called Terminix. They came out and found no Termites but said that everyone is sure to get them eventually so I bought an insurance policy which I understood would provide me with a yearly inspection and cover the cost of tenting or treating any future infestation. I was charged about $30/month and kept paying it for three years.

In May, 2017, I found a bunch of termites in a window sill in my kitchen. They had wings so I knew they had swarmed. But since they were inside my house, I was afraid I'd had an infestation for some time and this was evidence of it. I called Terminix. As others have complained, they did not show up when they said they would, but when they did, I showed them the dead termites and pictures I'd taken earlier. They walked around the house on the outside and then informed me that I had termites and should tent the house. I said, I was sure glad I had bought the insurance. The agent said, "Oh, these are dry wood termites. You're only covered for ground or Formosa termites." I didn't remember there being any such conditions explained to me previously, but sure enough, when I went back and found the contract that's what it said: ground or Formosa termites.

Terminix gave me an estimate of $4,200 to tent the house. By the way, they didn't just give me the estimate: They said they would call me with the estimate after they worked it out at the office. They never called, so I called them. A couple of times. They finally got back to me and said they would call me. Then they called and said they'd lost their original paperwork and would have to come back. Once again they didn't show up on the day they said and had to reschedule after I'd waited around half the day. They said they'd give me a discount since I'd been paying for 3 years and quoted me a price of $3,800.

I wasn't happy. So I asked my neighbor who he had used to tent his house and he told me Hilo Termite. I called Hilo Termite and spoke with the owner who is also an entimologist. I told him how I'd found a bunch of termites from a swarm in my window but no other evidence. He said they could have come in from outside and that he would never recommend tenting a house based only on that evidence. I asked him to come do an inspection. They weren't going to be in my area for a month so he recommended I call Hawaii Fumigation, a competitor of his who he said would also probably be cheaper since they're on my side of the island (I smelled integrity!). I called Hawaii Fumigation and told the lady my story. She said she'd heard lots of complaints about Terminix. She said, "We don't send a salesman to do the inspection, we send a technician. They get paid by the hour and have no incentive to sell you anything you don't need." The technician they sent inspected my property and told me he saw no evidence of termites. When I told him I'd bought an insurance policy that turned out to only cover ground or Formosa termites, he said, "those are the same thing." He also said that ground termites almost never come up to my elevation and that in the 10 years he's been working in Kona, he'd never seen ground termites up at my elevation!

About a month later Hilo Termite came to this side of the island and also inspected my house with the same result: no evidence of termites.

I asked Hawaii Fumigation for an estimate for tenting my house if I had been infested. They said $2,500...$1,700 less than Terminix, and they were honest and told me I didn't even need it!

I called Terminix and laid all this out to them and asked for a refund. They refused. The manager insisted that I had termites. He also said he saw no possible motivation for someone working on commission selling me insurance I didn't need or finding termites I didn't have. Really! We argued about it and I said, "alright, I want to talk to someone who's had ground termites in my area or anywhere at this elevation." He said he would have to check with customers to see if they would be willing to talk to me or let me see their houses. I said fine and he promised to call me the following week. That was two weeks ago and he's never called.

Fortunately I have been paying for my insurance contract with a Citi Visa card. Never thought I'd have anything nice to say about a credit card company but they were great. I am disputing all the charges and have already been refunded the last 6 months.

This review is for Terminix commercial in general.

seriously... they suck.

Tech turn around rate is high. Service is terrible. They do not show up on day and time of "scheduled appts". They do not return calls. They respond to extra service request 3 weeks after initial request. They will give you all kinds of reasons why YOU didn't request things in the right way. Sometimes you luck out and get a great tech... one that returns your calls and shows up in a reasonable amount of time after a request. I havent had one of those in probably 3 years.

My current tech is friendly and polite in person. fabulous. This does not help me if i cannot get serviced when requested. This is a business. They obviously do not value everyones business. have been a customer , this time around since 2013. Clearly, ive been beyond patient. Looks like its time for a new company... again.

* for those who wonder why I stayed so long with a company that treats its customers so nonchalantly: laziness and convenience. I didnt want to start the whole figuring it out process with someone else. but they have exceeded even my low bar and threshold for laziness

We hired Terminix to get rid of the water in our crawl space. They told us that we needed to encapsulate the crawl space. So we hired them. We still have water in our crawl space. In fact it is worse because the encapsulation traps the water.vit has no place to go. I contacted Terminix and they came out to look At it. They said they didn't tell us it would get rid of the water but will fix the air in the crawl space! Who does that? When that didn't work they said w never told them we had water. That is also not true as their salesperson took pictures and sent them to me showing the water in the crawl space. I also have a email that I sent to the salesperson confirming that I didn't need a sump pump and this would take care of the water. He responded that we didn't need a sump pump and yes encapsulation would reduce water. I have tried unsuccessfully many times to get them to resolve this. Now I'm told I will have to remove the encapsulation to install the sump pump.

I have been under contract with Terminix since 2010, and to have a yearly inspection done. To date, I have only had the initial inspection. Appointments are made, but no one ever shows or calls to cancel, yet I am still paying the yearly fee. Terminix never returns e-mails. Very hard to get ahold of them.

Back in August 2016 I called terminix to come to my house and check on my attic for possible rat manifestation. The salesman, Mr DURRETT, OTIS, came to my house on 8/11/16 and checked the attic and quoted me for $2000 for 5 years warranty on rat control. then he eventually reduced it to $1200! I told him I don't need their service for roddent control then he asked me if I agreed to let them to a pest control for my house. I told him ok but I only need it one time and I asked him to make sure that it's not going to be a recurrent charge and he promissed that it's not recurrent and it's just one single payment of $83.94 and the tech would be there tomorrow morning . then he asked me to sign the little electronic reciept and this is what I saw when I signed it:

Summary of Charges

Product Amount Tax Discount Total Amount

Residential Inside/Outside Pest Control $129.00 $4.94 $50.00 $83.94

In august i called terminix to get rid of carpenter ants , they charged me 214.92 . since then i had them at my home 3 more times due to the problem still existing, the last time they came out they were supposed to put out ant baits , they did no such thing due to the driver stating he had a differant truck. i found at least 30 to 40 more ants in my home and sent an email to terminix to refund my money or take care of the ant problem , no reply , i scheduled a date on line through there web site ,no reply this is going on a week until i called them by phone and cancelled the contract at which time i asked for a full rfeund , they stated it would take 24 to 48 hours to get a reply. they did not reply untill i called them on oct. 18th and stated there will be no refund due to the fact that when they did call they wanted to come back out to reevaluate the problem ,i told terminix that i already took care of the problem myself. since i used the off the shelf product i have not seen any ants. i believe they will not refund my money due to the fact i would not let them back into my home. they should have evalueated the problem in the first place .they are unprofessional and i will never recommend there services. big rip off

We hired Laguna Hills Terminix to tent a house we own in 1999. Since then we have been billed an "annual service fee" that really means you can call them after you discover termites yourself. They now tell me their contract says they dont need to inspect, and they have 6 months to do any treatment work if you happen to discover termites some day in the future. They are counting on DUMB consumers like me to not read the fine print.

My home was under contract for termites for 7 years and I thought they were doing annual inspection services (like the invoices said). After seeing termite damage showing up I called, another company and had it inspected. They found active swarms and extensive damage. Terminix said they didnt see anything and refused to come back. I then Hired a THIRD company to inspect - and they found termites too. I called YTerminix 12 times over 5 months and nobody ever came back to fix it or tent the house.

Finally I hired the last termite company that inspected to do the work, and make the repairs that should not have been neccessary. $7100 lesson learned.

I took them to OC small claims court and they said "under the contract we had 6 months to do any needed work, and the customer chose to get someone else to do it, so we aren't paying". The judge say right through that since it was obvious I had called them and gave them every opportunity to fix the problems, and waited 5 months before hiring someone else.
