Maybe it's time for someone to do something about teco. Outrageous demanding fees as a deposit once you pay them late. When are we supposed to get this money back? Never. Unless you move out of the state, if you look at the consumer reviews and yscam and consumer report, it's hundreds of complaints. It's absurd that you pay them on time for years and when you are in difficulties paying bills and living pay check to pay check and struggling to pay them as we go that is when they charge you a huge fee and threatening you if you do not pay they will turn the electricity off. TECO is a non-accredited utility company monopoly in Tampa, FL. They charge outrageous "deposits” to begin service, which I have never heard of. They will fluctuate your monthly bills so drastically without a shred of explanation. And it is essentially extortion since you cannot use another company and if you don’t pay them the unwarranted amount, then you lose power.
They will "accidentally” not apply payments to your account, apply them to someone else’s account, make you wait 3-4 days after payment for power to be reconnected, it goes on and on. These people are criminals. Endless people have filed complaints with the company, the attorney general, etc... They have 3.7 stars on the BBB website which leads me to believe that they are having employees write reviews for them. Because anywhere else you will see they barely get one star because of how they treat people. Everyone should continue to file a complaint with the Attorney General to take legal action.
