I am a 30 year resident of Swampscott and my boyfriend and I run a vendor business for the last six years in Swampscott we do farmers markets and festivals for the last five years we have proven that the Swampscott recreation director has been charging us illegally these "mandatory cash donations "long story short after many years of trying to get in with the town administrator for a meeting last year we got in a new administrator who was willing to hear what we had to say. He was shocked by everything that I had told him and we had a meeting with the recreation director in which she openly admitted behind closed doors to charging us these fees all these .When we the administrator asked her what gives you the right to do so she said she just said she had no answer . No apology came but we did get an apology from the town signed by her . We went public with it back in October of last year when we realized nothing was happening keep in mind her husband is an ex selectmen in this town .
After going public many others contacted us privately about other things that were going on in town she runs a summer program and for many years. She was charging children a dollar per day per kid a popsicle some children got two Popsicles a day . I brought that forward to the town administrator to find out where these funds have been going they claim Danielle Strauss had no idea about any popsicle selling .I then requested any expense receipts from the town because I knew she would never pull out of her own pocket to buy these Popsicles. Well don’t you know I have many receipts showing Danielle Strauss purchasing Popsicles on several occasions and a reimbursement check back to work for over $500. They still deny that she had any dealings with that.
Well since then I had gone to the DA and the chief of police and witnesses came forward saying that they saw Danielle was selling the Popsicles they now claim that they have the person that was selling the Popsicles and they fired them. They will not release the name of any person that they have fired . I requested the surveillance camera footage from the school on which were the grounds where she was selling . They will not release that to me . At first they said they couldn’t comment on that to there is none . Well at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they destroyed it .I have been demanding an audit and that has been ongoing for months and months and months in the meantime I’ve been to a couple of board of selectmen meetings . The town administrator Mr. Sean Fitzgerald lied publicly and disparage my character publicly. I then requested a meeting with him and behind closed doors along with another selectmen myself and my boyfriend . He apologized for lying publicly and said he had to do so in order to save himself from a lawsuit.
I am making an extremely long story short I have proof of everything the problem being is the assistant DA isnt willing to press charges although she has never seen any of my proof the chief of police told her that we had met on several occasions and that I showed him my proof . I have never met with him only 5 to 10 minutes back last October to show him the apology letter. I even had a very good client of mine Mr. Robert Deleo speaker of the house look at all my information and he cannot believe that this woman has not been fired yet my whole point in this is basically it’s gotten to a point of her bullying and the selectmen bullying the town. I found out this is been going on for a long time except it seems I’m the only one who has proof of all this .
Well the audit came back the other day and proved that money was missing such ridiculous things as she by accident through away the plastic bag that had money or she paid a farmers market band with all the cash from the collecting of the vendors at the market. It shows that they are in violation of municipal finance laws they still keep her employed . I find out that they never charge a band for any farmers market it was based solely off tips . Yet they claim in audit they pay bands .They had falsified receipts I could go on and on but long story short if this is something you’re interested in I would love your help in this matter because the day the audit came out last week two days later they sent us a letter that we are no longer allowed to be in the farmers market which opened this past Sunday it had devastated us! Since then there is so much more it would be easier to speak with you by phone. Also a friend of mine is Robert DeLeo (speaker of the house) I hated to have to do this because it isn't in my character but I reached out to Bobby who has seen the apology letter and asked him for help. He advised me to go to the newspapers and once it gets out the state will jump in . It seems the local papers work hand and hand with the town. I hated doing this, but I feel lost at this point because we can't afford a lawyer.
Every lawyer that has seen our information can't believe she hasen't been picked up criminal at this point. I asked him to speak to Charlie Baker for us because afford numerous attempts of calling his office and even sending a letter signed on delivery to his house he hasn't once reached out. He resides in our town and I would think Charlie would care about the handling of finances in our town . My family knows him and helped push for votes my daughter and mother were at his inauguration , but it means nothing to him. I guess when he needed our votes he got them . Now we need him and not even a response. Bobby said when he spoke to Charlie he claimed he knew nothing about the ongoings in Swampscott , but yet he lives right where all the festivals take place. Bobby then said this is something I think you really have to take a look at . Charlie's response I don't get involved in small town things yet he gets involved in cutting a ribbon for our new football field. REALLY! Basically Bobby felt as though he isn't going to pursue this. So in the end the thief stays employed with the town and the good guy gets fired from all festivals and markets .
