On March 15th my fathers truck and trailer broke down on 15 in Fallborook Ca. We called our AAA everything was good to go. Steves Towing shows up hooked us up for tow, and we were to meet them at Ford dealership. About 15 min later he calls us while we were about 15 min away and said we are going to charge you $370. If you don't want to pay we will leave your truck and trailer on side of road.
Did I mention my father is 80! I called towing co. for my dad and the lady could not have been more threatening, cold and totally RUDE.She didn't give 2 cents about the sit.
My dad couldn't believe he was being shaken down like this. I have never seen this before. My father is on a very very tight budget. Its also going to cost him thousand to get truck fixed, on top of this mess.
I was sure this wasn't legal and it is. I looked at towing laws in ca and just in Jan. of this year law Assembly Bill AB 1222 was passed just to make sure this type of fraud isn't perpetrated. They broke at least one law.
We are doing next steps required and calling credit card, cops and going online, Maybe even small claims.
This really is a shame that companies behave like such scum. praying on seniors or just people in general. When they are faced with no choice but to call for help and there is one company in control. They know it, and they use it.
My father owned and operated a company for 41 years and can not fathom in his wildest dreams doing this to someone.
He thought shake downs were a thing of gangsters and drug dealers.
We are just so disgusted,disappointed,and angry. I guess wethought small business cared more and would do what it takes to make a good name for them selfs, I guess we both were very wrong.
We know business need to make money and we expected to be charged but we were lead to believe at the actual stop (side of freeway 15 highway in Fallbrook) That our AAA fee's paid it and that was that. or we never would have left the scene.
I looked at Yelp reviews today for my father and found horrible reviews. We by far are not the only ones, and those were just the people who took the time to speak up. I cant imagine the seniors and regular people who just took it and didnt take the time to write out a review.
