I purchased a trailer from Dan Bennett at the Starlite Mobile Home Park. First off he sold me a trailer that was red tagged when I tried to have utilities turned on, and all the water pipes were broken I was forced to get a 10,000 loan just to fix enough to live in it. I never received a title due to the fact he didn't have one. He had repoed the trailer from someone in one of his California Parks and moved it to Nevada. I was never given or signed a contract but found a forged one in my file in their office later when I worked briefly for him. When I retired after 22 years from the Nevada Air National Guard I had been a resident of the park for 12 or more years the General Manager Mike Wheat offered me a job as park manager.
Soon after he invited me to California to spend the weekend with him when I didn't his attitude changed he started calling and expected me to be at his disposal 24/7 he was verbally abusive to me and other tenants of the park. I made the mistake of hiring a felon for my maintenance man who is still there dealing out of his trailer and ripping off who ever he can. Well one of the other tenants decided to move and offered to sell me a double wide trailer for $5,000 a once in a life time deal especially for someone on disability with a limited income. Since I was working for Dan Bennett I asked Mike to see if he would give me a lone and I could pay it back with my salery.
He said he wanted me to fax him a copy of the title to make sure they weren't going to rip me off. Ha ha I did but in the mean time secured another loan myself for the trailer. I was all packed and ready to move into my new trailer went over to buy the trailer and Nick and Colleen Moon the owners said to me I don't know what's going on between you and Mike but Dan the park owner had called them and FORBID them to sell me the trailer that he was buying it. No one bothered to tell me anything until I was all packed, money in hand and ready to move that weekend. Mike Wheat just showed up with a check that morning to buy it for them. When I confronted him he said he was moving into it. Well needless to say I was devastated and about as upset as I could get.
So I quit as park manager told him to get the title to my trailer since I had never received one, and that i had sold mine because I "was" planning to move that weekend. He said the owner Dan Bennett said he would have to file for lost title it would take months to get. When the person who was buying mine heard that he no longer wanted my trailer so I told Mike Wheat to tell Dan I wasn't waiting I wanted out of there and he could buy it back from me plus I wanted my wages for the month and the 2,000 he owed me for cleaning... Should of been a total of $6500, that I was moving. He agreed and made me move all my belongings into a storage unit in 3 days then made me sign a letter saying I can't sue them.
Then he whips out a check for 3,500 and said I was lucky Dan wasn't suing me for having to pay taxes on my trailer but that he turned in a scrapped cereal number and claimed they just moved it into the park so he didn't have to pay. I guess when he tried to title it they caught it for never being registered in Nevada. So now I am living in a s**t hole paying double for rent and utility's having to work again because disability doesn't cover my bills and I have no money for food for me or my dog and angry over getting screwed out of my home. He legally could not forbid them to sell me that trailer after we had a verbal agreement for me to buy it he had no grounds. Except he know I have no money to get a lawyer and go after him. The general manager said to me one day that they do what they want because Dan knows poor people can't sue. So they continue to discriminate and screw who they want.
There is much more to this and there shady unlawful practices but why bother. When I was manager they had me raise people's rent just to make them move out, he made me deny peoples rental applications based on their color, made tenants move out because they owned a pit bull that was a working dog registered for a disabled man made another get rid of his then let me keep mine and the junkie maintenance man move in with his. But they are the best liars in the business and will say anything to save their a*s. A trailer burned in the park and when the guy and his little girl were still in the hospital hours after the fire Mike was making me call the hospital to find out if the guy was paying rent or walking from the trailer so he could rent a back h*e and dose the site that weekend so he could try and rent the space out and he was talking about suing them. Heartless they just lost everything.
