SmartPay Leasing Inc. Reviews

  • Jul 16, 2018

I received the leasing terms from my local Metro PCS store where it clearly outlines that the first payment on the leased phone is for the 20% desposit required to lease the phone. 3 days later I contact SmartPay to pay off the phone, but I am given a higher pay-off amount. I asked why and I was told that that initial 20% payment to lease the phone, wasn't the 20% payment at all, but rather the FIRST month's payment on the phone, so I still need to pay the 20% AGAIN to pay off the phone. I told SmartPay that that is not what Metro PCS explained to me nor printed out for me to see exactly what the charges are, but that doesn't matter to SmartPay, because their rules are rules, even if I was never told about them. Can you imagine paying a month's payment, then after 3 days still being charged what amounts to a "pre-payment penalty", on top of the first payment you made 3 days before? Clearly SmartPay, nor the Metro PCS store located here in Corona off magnolia, care that they trick customers into overcharging them. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT ever use SmartPay or go to the Metroc PCS store located in Corona off Magolia. They are one of the reasons why this world we live in is full of corrupt criminals who don't care about people.

How to Manage Your SmartPay Lease Plan

It only takes a minute to setup your account. Just click on the button below and follow a few simple steps.

After you recieve the phone and agreement, they tell you the service is not included but they will take the money out and pay it seperately. That was not communicated. They will trick you. They did not charge me the service plan until the 2nd month. So somehow they changed their minds and the agreement online (which i have no access to) after I called to complain about the billing. This is beyond ridiculous.

I got a phone from smartpay and the phone payment is $98 a month and then the $45 phone minutes. When I cant pay the phone payment they shut off my phone and you can put phone minutes in reserve for the next month and every time they have turned my phone off I have lost my leftover minutes if I have 2 months worth of minutes on my phone they shut my phone off and then my left over month and my next month minutes are gone and they do not give them back to you let's say I have 5 days of minutes left and they shut my phone off on the first day I get it turned back on the next day and I have to buy a new minute card. The phone payment was not supposed to be that high it said $60 to start with. And they dont let you make payments unless its what's due on the due date. Or you are paying the phone off. I'd like to have all the money back I have lost on phone minutes.

I leased my phone January 2017 the purchase price of my iPhone was just over $600 over the total loan over the course of 15 months was just over $1400 which equaled out to 15 payments of 130=89 for the phone and 49 for the cell service. My payments came out of my account automatically and I was never late once yet my cell phone was shut off every month sometimes days sometimes weeks, I called Smartpay and then they insisted it was straight talk the cell service provider, I called straight talk and they insisted that Smartpay didn’t pay the cell service. And no one would turn my phone on, I actually had to pay an extra 49 to keep my phone on for 8 of the months and one of the months they double charged me.

In all they over charged me approximately $400 or more. I have paid off my loan and paid my cell payment through straight talk on 12/6/17- because my cell service was shut off mind you my payment wasn’t due until the 9th of December, straight talk reactivated my phone, then on the 9th my cell was deactivated again, I paid my loan off and my phone is still not working.

I called the 9th twice the 10th twice the 11th twice the 12th twice and the 13th twice and to no avail I still have an inactive phone. Yet the phone is paid off and the cell service is paid for. I got evicted on the 27th so I am homeless and really need my phone, what’s worse I have 2 small children so I really need the phone in case the school calls, as if that isn’t bad enough I lost my job on the 5th and have been waiting on calls back from perspective employers yet the only thing I have been able to do is try to find public phones because Smartpay won’t turn my phone back on.

My phone died it's final death at the end of September. We had service through Straight Talk, but I didn't have the money to purchase a new phone outright. Straight Talk was advertising a partnership with SmartPay that would allow me to lease a phone and make payments over time. I was desperate; I was waiting on important medical test results and needed a phone ASAP. So I signed up, despite the unfavorable terms. I chose to pay an extra $25 shipping for overnight air so that I would have the phone the moment I could.

I ordered early on Friday, so I knew I probably wouldn't get my new equipment until Monday. On Friday afternoon at 1 pm I got a "shipping confirmation" email that said the order had been placed and provided tracking info.

Yet on Monday morning the tracking said the package still hadn't been released to UPS. I tried chatting with a customer service rep at Smartpay, only to learn that they're simply a middle man, and could do absolutely nothing for me except provide the phone number for Quality One - the company that sells the phones.

I contacted Quality One and learned that while the order had been placed and the shipping label created in plenty of time, Smartpay had not released funds to them until the end of the business day on Friday. As such, my package still hadn't shipped.

At that point I was really displeased with Smartpay and didn't want to be stuck in a contract with them for two years. SmartPay CS told me that I had to cancel through Quality One, so I did. The person I spoke to with Q1 was extremely helpful. She canceled my order, sent me confirmation, and then told me that Q1 had issued the refund to SmartPay and that SmartPay should give me my money back in 3-5 business days. The next day I also received confirmation from Straight Talk that my wireless service plan had been canceled, as per my request.

10 business days later, I still haven't gotten a refund. I was planning to call SmartPay anyway, but then came the icing on the cake: an email from SmartPay saying that they couldn't change the terms of my agreement and outlining the payments I could expect to make over the next year for the phone and service that I never received.

I called SmartPay and spent 10 minutes on the phone with someone who tried his hardest to help, but for whom there was a significant language barrier. He kept stopping mid-sentence, searching for the correct words, and I could hear someone coaching him in the background. He told me "I exploit this...your situation so we can do better. here is your number so when you call back in a few days we may do better." From his end, he could see no cancellation request and apparently couldn't create one or do anything else for for me, except to "exploit" the issue (I'm assuming he meant escalate?).

I thanked him for the help and asked to be transferred to a manager. That was one hour and eleven minutes ago...I'm still on hold.

I had planned to have the money SmartPay owes me back by now, so that I could pay my first bill with Verizon. Now it looks like my biggest problem isn't going to be when the refund comes in, but whether or not I can prevent them from drafting even more money from my account.
