Do NOT fall for Smart One Energy

They are a massive rip-off. What they offer and what they deliver as not the same. My gas bill went from $60 to $119 with them. They sign you up in one day but take 2 - 3 months to cancel their service.

I received 2 bills in a row from Washington Gas ( which is my main gas supplier) with a third party supplier by the name of Smart One Energy. They said I authorized them on my account in June 2015, which I did not. I looked thru all my bills & have not seen any charges from them till January 2016. They were double charging me what Washington Gas was already charging me monthly for doing nothing. They charged me $99.89 in January 2016 & now February 2016 another $99.89. I called them to discuss situation & all they said was sorry for the inconvenience & they would cancel affective today February 29, 2016. Then hung up immediately after. They did not offer a refund of any sort & no other explainations of why this was done. I called several times after that phone call & they have just hung up on me every time I let them know my situation or give my account number. They have ripped me off & I would like a refund. Or at least a written apology & formal cancelation letter because apparently they don't do any formal legal documents (example contracts of starting a service with them).

Tricked

They tricked my elderly mother, they told her they were from pg&e, and she qualified for a 10% discount. They never told her she would be switching companies. Didn't even know anything till we got a letter from pg&e stating we switched companies

Switching back

How did you switch back to your original provider?

STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

Do not, for any reason whatsoever, ever switch to these guys. Do not call them for rates, do not call for questions, do not even dial think about switching to Smart One Energy. They are extremely good at scamming people and you would be signed up with them even if they just have your name.

For some reason, my gas supplier changed from Washington Gas to these guys. The how is a mystery.

My bills just started to double up. My bills usually came in the 60-80 dollar range. After these guys got their hooks into my gas, the bills started coming in 110-120 dollar range.

When I saw my previous bills and current bills, my supplier had changed from WashGas to these guys. When I called to cancel them the first month, they warned me that my bills would go high. I told them I don't care, I do not want you as my provider. Next month, the bill showed them as my supplier again. I called them again and asked them why they were still my supplier after I had called to cancel them. they said it was because it takes a billing cycle for them cancel a contract. (Funny how you can be signed in a second without you knowing yet it takes them a billing cycle to cancel). I said OK, but I am not paying them. To which they said that they will put it in collection. I have a good credit rating so I said OK, but please I do not want to see them supplying me with gas again.

Lo and behold, my third bill after calling them still showed them as my supplier. This is now the 6th month of them forcefully supplying me with gas without me, 4th after me having called them. And me being a regular citizen is left with no alternative but to pay or risk bad credit. Sad thing is, you can't call on anyone to do anything about it. The internet is rife with the shady practices of this organization yet no one does anything about it. You can have people rip you off (All legally, of course, as long as the government or state knows about it) yet you can't do anything about it. The only time you ever become important in the eyes of the republic is when it's something to with your taxes.

But I am digressing. Just be smart stay away from Smart One Energy.

I got a call from someone claiming to be calling from my gas company, saying we qualified for a discount. I didn't have a good feeling about it, but they must have caught me in a weak moment. When they asked if I consented to receive this discount, I said, "yeah, I guess so". I stupidly gave them my service agreement number, not knowing what that meant. I immediately called my gas company to ask about the call, and they knew exactly what happened, and said that I would soon get a letter from them confirming the change.

When I got the letter, I immediately called the number provided for Smart One Energy. I called, and although they didn't say, their office must be on the east coast, because they said I was calling during non business hours. I called at 2:45 Pacific time. I will try again tomorrow. In the meantime, I am fuming: at them, and at myself for allowing this to happen. I'm usually not so trusting. Should have followed my gut feeling. I just hope I can get this taken care of before I get charged for their "discount". This is total fraud. The other company name was never mentioned, and I was led to believe I was speaking to someone from my gas company.

Smart One Energy tricked my spouse into switching our energy provider. You need to watch out for this company. My provider said there was nothing they could do to switch us back, so I had to deal with someone from Smart One Energy. The Smart One Energy Company contact had a thick Indian accent like all customer service these days, especially scams. I looked at my current bill, and I was charged some money by Smart One Energy, but it looks like I am back to my old provider. They should have a way to lock your accounts from companies like this one. There is what I did next.

First I filed a complaint with the National Do Not Call Register since our phone number is on the Do Not Call Register.

Second, I filed a complaint with the Business Consumer Alliance and the Better Business Bureau. Received a message back from the Business Consumer Alliance that Smart One Energy did not return their request for information on the complaint, which is now being escalated. Not sure where yet.

Third, copied the complaints I filed, the gas and electric invoice with the charge, and records of conversations with Smart One Energy telling them to switch me back to my original provider and that I am also on the National Do Not Call Registry.

Fourth, waiting for the class action lawsuits to be filed which I am sure will occur with this company.

Finally, I pleaded with my spouce not to pick up our phone anymore unless she knows the number. I would say about one in ten calls are legit.

Cold calls

Got a call from them (supposedly) and they said I qualitied for a 10% discount on my PGE bill. But then they quickly asked me for my account number. The guy got a bit frantic when I said I don't give information over the phone. Then hung up on me. LOL

BAD Customer Services

Customer service Rep called, did not provide me his name and phone number to call back. They use "non-call back number". I agree with all the bad review on this company. How can we report this to BBB? any one suggestion?

Not recommended for services.
