I DO NOT recommend this company. I contracted Small Jobs by Shelby Construction to add 2 walk in showers to 2 of our bathrooms in our townhouse, which has a tenant in it. I contacted him on 4/19, and he said we can start Wed, 4/22. He sent a quote, and immediately, we paid 50%. He was slow to go out and view the job. Once he viewed, he came back and said that there were unforeseen issues and he sent another quote for $400 for baseboards, of which we paid immediately. (See pics below for proof).
Sheldon then proceeded to miss days and would text and say, "I got my kids today and I haven't seen them for a while", or, "I'm under the weather from fumes today"... even times with no text to the paying client, his crew nor him showed up. I only knew because the tenant would alert and ask me how much longer was this going to take.
Small Jobs by Shelby's owner asked for a draw from the balance, and thinking that the work was being completed in a timely manner, we gave that draw. Eventually after asking for another draw, and us being at the townhouse for other work to be done and realizing that he wasn't there, we decided that we'd like to see pics or some work completed before paying the final $1043 that was left. Yes! We paid 80% of the contract at this point.
We woke up to texts (see pics below) from the owner on Monday, 5/11, stating that we had an issue. He says he included $1300 for labor in the contract but had spent $1800 already. I asked him if that $1800 included the separate invoice for the $400 baseboards. He replied, No. He then said he would not be treated incorrectly. Confused, I called him. I asked for receipts for the additional materials because I would pay him asap.
He never agreed to provide receipts.
He stated that this was more personal than business because God created him to be a man, not a business man- I quote verbatim. He advised that I had him speaking with some soft gay man who he knew nothing about. I asked if he was referring to my daughters father as a gay man? Because he is not. I also advised that it was highly offensive to even reference someones sexuality while doing business. I advised that my daughters father is the co-owner of the house, and had every right to be involved in the transactions. When the initial call was made to do the work, he was across seas serving our country. We are a military family. Sheldon then said I made him so upset he was saying things he usually wouldn't say. Classic verbal abuse- do not blame the people you spew your hate towards.
Sheldon went on to tell me that he chooses who he works with and didn't need our job, and if he asked for a draw from the balance, I should know that he must have needed it. He then started yelling about his payroll, and his workers, and paying them $150 a day, and I explained that this was business and his payroll is not my concern. I also advised that he had been paid 80% of the contract, and asked how we could work this situation out- I asked for the receipts for the extra materials he mentioned. He told me to find someone else to finish my job. He walked away and left us hanging.

***He left tiles for the shower behind but not flooring- so where did the $1300 go and where is the additional $500 he says he spent???
***He is never on time. He is a no call no show from our experience. He evidently may be experiencing financial issues business wise to continue asking customers for a draw from the balance when all he has to do is THE WORK and be paid in full.
We have filed this complaint with BBB as well. Be aware of this company. HE WILL THROW GOD AND SCRIPTURES IN YOUR FACE AS IF YOU'RE NOT A BELIEVER AS WELL. 100% UNPROFESSIONAL AND A QUITTER. DO NOT TRUST SMALL JOBS BY SHELBY CONSTRUCTION IN YOUR HOME.
