Safe and Sound Reviews

  • Jan 14, 2016

Almost exclusively, I have refrained from posting public comments about my experiences with vendors. Unfortunately, my experience with Safe & Sound, 10718 Carmel Common Blvd., Suite 220, Charlotte, NC 28226, and more specifically its owner, Rex Perkins, has been so awful that I feel obligated to share my experiences as to dissuade the public from using his company and services.

I purchased an expensive home theater system/installation package from him, incorporating additional units (Blue Ray, Apple TV, Smart TV, etc.) and balancing the multi-speaker surround-sound system to the room dynamics. The installation and unit connections were completed, but when I asked about the surround-sound set-up, the tech said it would work right out-of-the-box, without adjustments. I actually believe he was late for his next appointment and completely ignored this vital step. The system worked fine, albeit without a balanced surround system, for the next seven months. During this interim, I read the manual on balancing. I followed the instructions, tuning each speaker separately and achieved spectacular sound results. This is a step that Safe & Sound completely ignored. After the speaker balancing, it changed my entire experience when watching TV, listen to movies, etc. A huge omission of the installation process.

At about the seventh month, my new receiver started to malfunction. The front light panels do not come on, neither the Blue Ray nor Apple TV can be activated, and each time I want to turn on the TV, I have to start up my TV with the remote then unplug and re-plug my receiver back into the wall socket, manually. Somehow, this resets the receiver.

When purchased, Rex stated, "We stand by all our equipment and installations. If anything ever goes wrong, just call us and we will be there." I called Rex Perkins' cell phone. I left him a message asking for help in diagnosing my problem. "Could you please arrange a time for a tech to come and look at my unit(s)?" Two days passed without a return call. I then called the store. They left him a message to call me ASAP. He never returned the call. A few more days passed and I called his cell again. This time he picked up his phone. He seemed to disregard the fact that my receiver was not functioning properly, and only complained about how busy he was and that he couldn't arrange for a "tech call" for weeks. I felt I had no alternative but to wait. He promised to call me directly after his busy month was finished. Six more weeks passed without a call. Once again I called his cell, left messages both on it as well as at the store. No response.

Needless to say, I was frustrated and angry, without a place to turn. Finally, after other calls, I used a different cell phone and he DID pick up. Again, he didn't apologize for not returning my calls nor the inability to set up an appointment. Again, he complained about how he was immersed in 'new work' and how impossible it would be to visit me "for at least another 3-4 more weeks." I asked him to give me a fixed date, even if it was 4 weeks away. He wouldn't do it but said, "I promise to call you 'by the end of the month' and we will see what we can do." It has been 2 months and, guess what, no call. It is my presumption that Rex Perkins has no intention, whatsoever, in scheduling a service call nor honoring the company's warranty.

I decided to share my story with others who are contemplating using the services of Safe & Sound. Mine has been horrific. Go elsewhere. Go elsewhere fast!
