Ron Stein Reviews

  • Jul 8, 2020

Ron Stein called us out to inspect his pool heater. We determined it was not worth repairing, was full of soot, installed incorrectly, missing heat sinks, illegally installed with flexible gas pipe, signs of overheating. We explained the pool heater was over 30 years old, past it's shelf life and a liability and potential fire/ explosion danger. Ron Stein agreed before we arrived to an $85 service call diagnosis fee. We provided the information to Ron Stein and obtained his credit card for the $85.

The following days we received this: I am requesting that you refund the $85 fee that your company charged for examining my heater. Please refund your fee back to my credit card. When I called you on Monday, I explained that my pool technician explained to me that I needed a new thermostat. I also told you that I had the pool heater working the day before on Sunday, and after 5 minutes I turned it off but could not get the igniter to click or the heater to fire as I had done before. I explained that the plastic knob was broken off on the thermostat but I could still control it.

I told you what type of heater I have, and based on your experience you must have known the age of the heater at that time. You didn't seem to interested in getting a detailed explanation from me, so I trusted that I would get a thorough exam of my pool heater and a detailed report of what was wrong with it. Instead I received a simple text telling me I have an internal leak and need to replace my heater. There has not been any evidence of an external or internal water leak in the heater, and the pump runs four hours per day.

The bottom of the heater is dry and there was no water present when I reviewed it on Sunday. I also spoke to my pool tech who said he didn't see any evidence of a leak when he examined it. I received three pictures from you, one of the front cover being removed which I can easily do, and two with the stovetop removed showing normal long-term exterior corrosion but not a leak. I had to ask you for an invoice, I guess you don't normally send them, and to put was was wrong with the heater on the invoice so I would have a good idea exactly what was wrong and if it were worth replacing.

My goal working with your company was to pinpoint the defective part, meaning you would test my thermostat, the ignition module, wiring, gas valve, etc and give me a repair estimate. At the time of your tech's visit, the pool pump was not running as it is on a timer, and I don't now if he even ran the pump when he was there. In addition, the pool pump is not easy to turn on as it has it's own timer and there is an external timer as well. So, I didn't get anything from your service call.

We explained once again to Ron Stein this heater is not to be repaired it is a liability and needs to be replaced. Ron Stein initiates a chargeback on his credit card. We were charged $35 from our credit card processor in addition the $85 Ron Stein agreed on being charged back. We told Ron we were going to sue him and file a lien. He paid us the $35 fee after we threatened legal action. He claimed he called his bank to reverse the chargeback. We filed two disputes with our processor and as of today, months later we have been DENIED and are out the $85 this piece of work agreed to pay us.

He apparently is an expert at pool heater repair and we know nothing. Tens of thousands of satisfied customers, A+ BBB rating, and our technicians have decades of experience repairing pool heaters but this duplicitous POS seems to think it's "just a thermostat" according to his pool clown. The house upon arrival was dilapidated the pool equipment had been taped with duct tape and leaking profusely. The heater had water in the bottom of the rusted burner tray, pink color which indicates overheating in the heat box, the coils rusted, corroded, wet and full of black soot which is highly flammable, but hey, the imbecile RON STEIN who agreed to pay the $85 service call, deciding he doesn't like our diagnosis charges back the $85 like a thief who steals services from EXPERTS.

After a quick Google search this guy has no heater repair gas appliance experience, but is an accountant. I wonder Ron, do you work for free and give refunds to customers when they don't like the outcome of your professional advice? A customer who doesn't pay for services is not a customer. A customer who does not pay is a THIEF! We will continue to attempt to dispute the chargeback and plan to sue Ron Stein. Currently small claims cases are not being heard due to covid. I'd think twice to ANYONE thinking of dealing with Ron Stein or performing work or professional services.

He'll agree to one thing then if he doesn't like your diagnosis he wont pay. We have received nothing to date for our service and diagnosis. We have attached photos of the pool heater condition upon inspection. Ron Stein claims the money has been reversed, according to our processor it has been disputed and denied. Ron has wasted copious amounts of time avoiding paying us a mere $85. We have wasted time talking and communicating with him, with our bank and credit card processor, being put on hold, writing letters all because Ron Stein. https://www.taxbuzz.com/find-the-best-tax-preparer/california/cerritos/ron-stein
