Right Choice Pools & Spas, Inc. Reviews

First of all.....not only is Matt Barrass of Right (Wrong) Choice Pools and opportunist, he is in my opinion incompetent to do the basic maintenence on a pool unless you love the color green for your water color. Matt and his den of thieves were presented to us by our real estate broker who just happened to be Matts sister in law. We bought an unfinished house that needed to be finish and needed a pool permit. Matt was presented as the guy that could get the job done. In order to get the pool permit Matt needed to present a soil sample and repair the deck by sloping it away from the house. We did not want to close on the house without the pool permit but the realtors and sellers persisted and I agreed to a $10,000 cash sum to go ahead and close. The $10,000 was well over what was needed but we would take the cash from this to pay for the $1000 permit fee, soil sample and deck paver repair which all combined should cost about 25% to 30% of the negotiated settlement.

My wife was in charge of this project and Matt being the opportunist he is, took complete advantage of us and in a few swift moves while pocketing about 75% of the settlement cash for a green pool, no permit and a pool, that he said was built by a shotty builder. He did do some work but left to us a pool in even worse comdition. than the so called shotty pool builder. I talked to my wife from the road and she told me that Matt would call and want to come over to the house and pick up a check for work he had done.

Gernerally, I'm used to getting a bill and paying in 30 days but I understand why Matt does this. He does it because his work is so bad that nobody would pay in 30 days. I felt we had been over charged and thought we had a credit. My thoughts were right but not according to Matt. You see Matt told me he was charging us $5,000 for the permit that cost $1000 and fairly simple to file. My thought was that he would get the work to fix the pool in order to get the permit but his idea was to grab the cash and we pay additionally on top of the $5,000 for the work. Matt is such a little man and such an unethical man. I bet he feels like a big man telling me my wife signed a contract where he hosed us. Turns out Matt applied for the pool permit after 2 months and he didn't do the work needed to complete the pool permit.

Again.....what a small soul he is!!!1 Taking advantage of my innocent wife! After reserching and looking at the 2 complete pages of complaints on Matt Burrass on google under rip off report with Right(Wrong) Choice Pools and formerly of Nationwide Pools, you would think it would be so much easier to do a good job instead of the SoFlo hustle! My wife tells me she feels stupid but I tiold she should not. In my business I have to deal with low lifes and con men as well and I think I'm pretty good at seeing pointing out these creeps but I still get taken. If someone is a bad soul it doesn't take an Ivy League degree to screw someone. I feel bad for the people that he has devastated....I can absorb his con and will sue him and make his life miserable for the sport of it because he deserves it and he needs to be stopped.

If anyone would like to sue him it is fairly easy and I would be more than happy to show anyone how to sue on your own without any cost to you other than a filing fee. We must make his life miserable and every deserving lawsuit will do this and hopefully stop his hustle. Everytime I hear Steve Millers song, "Take the money and run" I will be remindee of this creep. To all of you that have also been screwed by this con artist, rest assured that I will take the steps that will change his life forever! He will not play this game on anyone else. That is not a threat but a fact my friends! BTW Matts wonderful sister in law will miss out on a very nice commission when we sell this flip shortly......I like to keep things in the family!

After we signed the contract with Right Choice Pools and gave a total of $8,455.00 in deposits, it all went downhill from there. Right Choice Pools is attempting to defraud us by keeping our $8,455.00, when all we received from them are drawings of our pool. No permits were ever applied for. No site work was ever commenced. And despite their guarantee, which is also on their website, no engineering plans were ever completed.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING 3 THINGS BEFORE DECIDING TO DO BUSINESS WITH RIGHT CHOICE POOLS:

(1) Matt Barrass, the owner of the company, is NOT A LICENSED CONTRACTOR. If you look up who the licensed contractor is for the company, it lists Christopher Barrass, which is Matt’s brother. Matt Barrass has also been FINED AND PENALIZED by the Construction Industry Licensing Board for accepting over $30,000 in deposits for work which he was unlicensed to perform, doing a small amount of the work, then abandoning the job.

(2) Matt Barrass previously worked for Nationwide Pools, which is a company which the ATTORNEY GENERAL FILED SUIT AGAINST and froze the assets of, as the company used a variety of false and deceptive marketing practices related to the sale and construction of pools, including: failing to pay subcontractors which caused liens to be placed on consumers' homes, making misrepresentations relating to pool financing, charging illegal credit card fees, making misrepresentations regarding manufacturer rebates and warranties, and failing to complete construction of pools.

(3) Matt was also sued by Nationwide Pools. His claims in his responses to postings of other victims that he has never been sued is false, and we have the documentation to prove it.

(3) Finally, Right Choice Pools offers consumers financial incentives to post positive reviews about the company on Angie’s List and other forms of social media. Therefore, the positive ratings are artificially skewed and most positive reviews are from people for whom the company has not done any work for, other than giving an estimate and amateur drawing of the pool.

All this information can be confirmed. Go to myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/ where you can search the records of unlicensed activity and search under his last name. To see the detailed report, you will need to request a public record through the website and they will email it or mail it to you. To see the law suit filed against Matt Barrass by Nationwide Pools, go to the Broward County Clerk of Courts website (clerk-17th-flcourts.org) and do a public access case search.

I contracted right choice pools 16 months ago to build my pool. I was a little indecisive from the beginning but against my better judgment went though with it. At the time I was a young single guy who just wanted an over the top pool in my house. They delayed the project so long that I ended up in a relationship and started a life with my gf. It was in our best interest at the time (right choice hadn't even gotten the permits yet) to maybe lose the $20k cave/ waterfall. I did and the process went on. Per the contract, I had the right to change the plans as many times as I desired before signing off on them. Matt tried charging me a $700 plan revision fee saying I signed off on the plans. Never even came close to happening. I had all documentation to prove it and he lost a $50k job over it. Ultimately, I cancelled the pool and all I wanted was my $4000 back that I gave him for upgrades that were never purchased and never part of the original contract. . He threatened me with LeIns and other things against my credit. He ended up getting $8,749 of my money and I don't even have the permits to go to another company. He is a scum bag and after doing research on him and his company I am reading that I'm not the only one that has been taken by him. It's unfortunate that he is able to continue ripping people off. On the back end of that he's also someone that needs to continue looking over his shoulders. Where I come from you don't do this to people. I go to work and earn an honest living and he is a con artist who steals from people. I am in the process of taking further action to shut him down. It's not going to happen overnight but I believe I have contacted the right people for the job and will put him out of business.

He took my money... it took him 6 six months to get a permit, then another month to start to dig, took him two weeks to dig, asked for more money before and after the dig... collected more money and walkled away once i refused to pay an additional 40% price hike in the middle of the work. He is a con artisit, makes his money from ripping people off rather than building pools.

We contracted for a pool with right choice in February 2013 and left a $2500 deposit.

The sales man asked us to come to pick tiles at the showroom and we prepaid for the excess not included in the package deal.

The salesman then asked for another $1400 before starting the job.

The permits were never approved because of a sceptic tank in the way of where the pool was going to be located.(no one asked about it and we had just recently moved in the house)

Matt Barrass never looked for an alternative location, nor recommend that we relocate our sceptic; He just

ignored my calls and wont refund a dime.

I know the permit application was about $700 but he certainly did not incurr over $4000 worth of expenses .

Ground was never broken and I am left without a pool and out $4200.

He ignored all my requests to compromise. He just kept it all and moved on to the next.

You are a disgrace of a human Mr Barrass. Enjoy living this way.
