Rey's Auto & Tire, Inc. Reviews

Rey’s Auto This shop is run by a father/son team. The father’s name is Michael. The son doesn’t bother to introduce himself. My car is a 2006 Toyota Corolla with 87K miles and in very good condition. I have never had any problem with it. It has been maintained. It has lived in the desert in New Mexico its entire life until a move to Michigan. So the car has never been in cold climate and sometimes misbehaved.

This is what happened: It just stopped. I was low on gas and ironically on my way to the gas station. Still it has never just quite. I had it towed the length of two driveways. If I didn’t have a heart condition, I could have pushed it that short distance to Rey’s Auto Service.Instead I had to pay for the tow less than the length of a football field.

As long as they had the car, they checked out the system, which incidentally had been checked about 3 weeks prior for an oil change and weatherizing? It could have been vapor lock which had never occurred before. $200 later, they released the car saying they could not find any problem but to not let the gas level fall below quarter tank. That was in July.

4 weeks later in August, the car refused to start. I was stranded for about 3 hours waiting for a tow. The tow truck driver said it was the ignition. Needless to say I was not happy. The next day the electrical system came on sporadically and incrementally, but finally started. I drove back to Rey’s to explain that once again the car simply wouldn’t start.

The manual suggeste one of 3 things: the battery, the ignition, or the electrical. I asked if they checked any of that besides just hooking it up to the computer since nothing coded. They kept the car overnight again; put it up to the computer again; and nothing coded again. They drove the car 20 miles to see if it would stall. But stalling was never the issue.

Not starting was. Anyway, the son told me to not bring my car back there-good customer service-; that I was just imagining the problem, blah blah blah; and that they had wasted their time even though their service was guaranteed. The car was just old. So the car ran well for a few more weeks then quit again.

I took it to a different shop and showed them the print out from Rey’s. The problem turned out to be a short in the battery.Problem solved and car runs well. I have talked to other tenants who use Rey’s because it is close by. The men tell a different story than the women.

So, based on my own experience and the experience of the other women, this is not a place you want to take your car if you are female. Sexist pig is the term that comes to mind. They should stick with tires.
