Recovering Computers Reviews

  • Jul 8, 2016

I took my computer to Recovering Computers by Sparky back at the end of March 2016, he put in a new hard drive, re-installed Windows 7, Windows Office and Microsoft Essentials, however my DVD/CD player was not working. It was working fine when I took it in. I kept getting an error message that the drivers were not installed. I called Sparky he remembered me and wamted me to allow him remote access to my computer which I did. He could not fix the problem and told me to bring it in he would fix it for free. I took it in on July 1, 2016. It was working fine, not even going slow. Just the DVD/CD problem. He booted up the computer when we got there and ask me about an Icon. I told him the Icon appeared when he had me allow him remote access. He was suppose to be fixing the DVD/CD, but came out several minutes later saying my computer would not boot up and that Microsoft Recovery was trying to fix the problem.

We were there three hours while this program was suppose to be running. I noticed one of his computers in the front office had been scanned for virus' and had a Trojan. He kept going back and forth between that computer and my computer. Finally he ran us off as it was close to closing time and he wanted to close early so he could go get his new truck. I took my computer and me and my Mom left. Any way my computer is completely dead. Nothing. Windows will not boot up. It has two messages. First, that if a camera or music player has been installed, remove it and reboot the computer, second message says there is no operating system to be found. As I said my computer was fine before except the DVD/CD problem and my hard drive he installed in March was still in warranty. I called and left a message to that effect and ask him to call me. He called on July 2, 2016 and said my computer had a virus and it was my fault and the warranty did not apply. I filed a complaint with the BBB. He told them he had never heard of me that we were not customers, so I emailed the original invoice to them and wrote negative reviews on every place I could Facebook, Yelp, YP and so on. When the BBB contacted him proving I was a customer and told him of the invoice. He said that I destroyed my own computer, that I was a vindictive woman and was no longer welcome in his store. I have proof that computer was working fine, my Mom and a friend .saw it working fine. I have proof of the phone calls. But I don't know what else to do. I am handicap with End Stage Lung disease and on oxygen, my mom is 80 years old we both live on Social Security which is not much. He took advantage. I found others he has done the same on Yelp and one on his Facebook. His ratings are bogus. Can you help me? How do I prove this? I sent the computer to be fixed by someone I trust in Texas they are going to try and find out exactly what happened and when it happened. Do I have any recourse on this are do people like this just get by with things? I depend on the computer as I am basically home bound I want a refund for the full amount of the invoice for installing the hard drive as he destroyed it. Can I file charges for destruction of personal property and attempted fraud. He tried to make me believe something was wrong with the computer so he could charge me more money and when he realized I was not going to leave the computer with him he destroyed it. That is my take on it also my Mother's take on it.
