A man called, stating he was with Puget Sound Electic, our local power company, and that he was going to be at our location in 45 minutes to shut off our power. He asked me to call 1-800-380-1822 (customer service) to make a payment arrangement. We immediately called the number, and they informed us that although we were on auto payments, something had occured and our payment was defaulted. They said they sent out one letter and now they were going to disconnect, unless we showed up to a money mart and wired them money.
We called PSE to confirm that this was the case, and to see if we could go to a closer location to pay. PSE informed us that not only were we current, the number and case number provided were not affiliated with them at all. Many customers in our area were getting these calls, and thet were a scam.
