Public Moving Services Reviews

  • Feb 2, 2018

We hired Public Moving and storage to move my daughter to California From Arkansas. On July 20, 2017. Some moving guys in a rental truck from Missouri showed up , picked up all her belongs and left. My daughter was told numerous times that her belongings were on a truck to Calif. She would call Public moving and storage and be on hold for two hours. A gal named Brandi was the only person that would answer the phone and lie through her teeth. I called many times and my fiance called too. Now Seven months later we asked the Charlette Police to drive by and see if the company was there and if they could help us. The officer said hire an attorney. My daughter was in the process and called the police once again to check the company out because they were not answering the phone any more. The officer reported that the company was gone and in its place was an IRS office. My daughter was heart broken. Her father had died in an accident a few years eariler. All the pictures and momentos she had from her father were with her belongs. This is the lowest most hurtful thing any human being can do. The pain of losing her father and then losing pictures and other things from him has crushed her. If someone knows anything about this company or where in Missouri her belongs ended up PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come forward and help us.

Public Moving Services US DOT: 2955650 MC 0011695

After signing the contract and them taking my deposit, they would not call me back to confirm the dates and times. They also offered me local storage and access to my property. Once I finally reached them they stated that I can not use these local storages locations and that I could not access my property because the storage is out of state. The agrement was storage was free and local, as part of the contract. I ahve email trails supporting this issue and the date canceled due to them not holding up their deal on the contract. They will not return any calls and sent my credit card company misinformed information, that does not match my email trails.

Phylis Ricci repleid to my credit card company fals information on when I canceld this due to their lack of communication. I also have the rep inforamtion and email stating the process and my storage locations. They are very nasty and Phyliss is very rude and nasty on the phone and hung up on twice. Her number is 754.235.7854

Public Moving Services... Let's start at the beginning. You are moving. How exciting! Where do you start? You approach your good friend Google, like you do for everything else. You google "moving", or "moving companies", or some other derivative of "moving" in search for answers.

You find a site and enter in information. Soon you get phone calls. A LOT of phone calls. You are bombarded with multiple quotes that all look eerily similar. After a few days of this, you research companies and just pick one that calls the most to stop the madness. That company is Public Moving Services. Their up-front persistence will hook you. They are so persistent, you do half the research to ensure they are trustworthy. You think, "This representative called me twice a day and responds immediately to my questions, this is the kind of mover I need." You glance at the reviews and see there are 4 star averages on one site, 5 stars on another. You glance at the reviews. Everything seems good so you sign a binding quote and schedule your move. You sigh with a relief that that part is over, not fully knowing that YOU JUST SCREWED YOURSELF.

This happened to me on August 6th. I have since relocated to a new home. That home is still empty making it more so of an empty house rather than a home. I have no delivery date set after countless calls. I can’t buy new furniture since the furniture I already own and have paid for may arrive at any time. I am stuck in an empty house.

So far, I have had to buy: plates and silverware to eat, pots and pans to cook, a new dining table so we had somewhere to sit and eat, a bed to sleep on, chairs to sit on, toiletries to stay healthy, clothes to start my new job, new toys for my kids to be entertained, a new vacuum to keep the house clean, new beds for my kids to sleep on, and a new router so I can connect to the internet to write this complaint. I wash clothes at a laundromat since they have my washer and dryer as well. By now, I could have bought a new washer and dryer with the monies I have spent at the laundromat.

I call the movers every weekday. Sometimes I am on hold for hours with no answer. Sometimes I am on hold to be hung up on as soon as I speak. Every now and then, I do get through and I am told “I have to talk to the dispatcher, he is not in.” He is never in. I am pretty sure he doesn’t exist. Public Moving Services is not the bargain mover I was looking for. You get what you pay for with movers.

My advice is to choose a company that you have SEEN. If they have a truck wrapped in their logo, they are probably legit. I am pretty sure that Penske is not a moving company. That is the last place that I saw all of my clothes, my book collection, my photo albums, my children’s toys, and my wife’s heirlooms.

Public Moving Services is a scam. After researching the company, it is located in Waterford Squares Apartments in Charlotte, NC. I was unable to determine if the zoning in Charlotte permitted companies to be run out of residential apartments in the Charlotte city limits. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

An LLC was filed in North Carolina, signed by Andrey Shuklin. He also is associated with Independent Van Lines LLC, National Relocation Solutions, LLC, Olympus A&S LLC.

Our household items were picked up on July 7, 2017 and it is 2 months later and we cannot get a delivery date from them. Also, they increased the cost of the move after our items were loaded on to the truck.

Public Moving Services is a moving broker, though they present themselves as a moving company. (The difference is that they "say" they don't own their own trucks.)

We are an older couple moving from California to Kentucky to be with our grandchildren. My husband is disabled. He stayed in California to pack and move us so that I could begin a new job.

We found this moving company whose prices appeared to be not much more than it would cost to move us ourselves. Since moving ourselves would mean my husband would have to make at least two trips across the country and I was concerned for his health, we decided to bit the bullet and pay for movers.

The first "binding estimate" that we were given was expensive (for us), but doable. A few days prior to the move, we were told that the "estimate" had doubled. Since we had over 400 boxes (and a few bits of furniture that had been passed down through the family), we couldn't just begin to try to move it ourselves within our allotted time frame. So, I thought we'd go ahead and pay.

When the movers actually showed up, they brought too small a truck, so loaded 1/2 of our things and left. The next day (now that they had possession of half of our things), they presented a contract which brought the total to almost 4 times the original bid, from about $5K to over $20K. My husband didn't know what to do except sign the contract and hope for the best.

Once my husband got back in Kentucky, we began to call the company to try to arrange for a delivery date. No one would answer our phone calls. When they did talk to us, they refused to even give us the location of our belongings. We have finally had to file reports with all kinds of federal agencies including the FBI.

There are literally at least dozens of families in the same situation we are: massive overcharging, failure to deliver, etc. We are at our wit's end.

After 30 business days of first available date, my stuff is still not delivered. According to the contract, this should have been delivered Aug 11th.

Job # PS2777891, move from Jamaica, NY to Plano, TX. This move is between 1501-2000 Miles. According to the contract, it should have been delivered between 4-24 Business Days of the First Date(FAD). My first available date was July 11th. Based on the calendar, 24 business dates from July 11th is Aug 11th but i still do not have any update whatsoever. We have three young kids and it has been extremely difficult and inconvenient to live out of a suitcase. The schools start in the next week or so and we have nothing for kids after more than a month of our first available date.

Emma from dispatch is least helpful. I get a standard response, "no updates, will call you when i have an update."

Everything the sales person, Tommy, told me turned out to be a lie. He assured me that my stuff will be delivered on July 11th, he told me that he has a good estimate of my inventory list and that the "binding estimate" will not go over $500, he said the movers will bring blankets for the furniture, he said he will be my moving coordinator and will guide me throughout the process, i could call him on his cell. Every single thing was a lie. He never answered any of my several calls or emails after the conversations we had well BEFORE the move. He just went missing after I paid the deposit.

The movers charged me an extra $600 because they claimed that i had more stuff than i disclosed. This was a lie because he already already had 300 cubic feet worth of moving stuff in his truck and i had no choice but to pay because my stuff was already in the truck and i had to move out of my apartment that day. Whatever, I paid him whatever he asked, I moved on from that but I didn't expect them to not deliver my stuff. This has been an absolute nightmare so far.

My mom passed way and I was clearning the house for a sale. I contacted the moving company to pick up and bring my items to the new location. The day they came there was a problem with what was communicated to me about the packing material which were no charge to me. I called the POC I had and the moving people did the same. No one answered and the office was closed. The guy didn't charge me since he could not reach anyone. So they packed everything. Now prior to setting pick up date I needed to pay a 25% deposit. Then according to the contract you pay 50% at pick up and the remainder 25% when they drop off.

I had n problem with that and as shown booked with them. Now I received a call from the moving company with new figures which of course could not be paid the same day for some extra items added to the shipment. I had no problem with that. The Customer Service Manger Angela stated that half of that shipment would need to be paid prior to them shipping the items and that it would have to be done via a wire. I reviewed the contract and it does not say anything about a wire on it. I reviewed the charges and there were items that I did not see on the original invoice. I emailed with additioanl questions pretainin to the wire and additioanl cost and its over a week later and I still have not heard anything . I have contacted the company via phone and email and begain to reach out to a Phyllis. This is who sent the docusign agreement for me to fill out. Hoping that this company is not trying to charge me every day for them not clarifying things.

I am considering going to my JAG office to review the issue and add them to the list of companys that should not be allowed to do business with the military. My shipment was picked up on the 14th of July and now it is the 17 of Aug. Almost a full 2 weeks and no response. Sheri Lacey,WA

BEWARE! This company is a complete SCAM operation. The owner Andrey Shuklin, has operated several other SCAM moving companies and he just closes up shop and starts a new one when the complaints/lawsuits pile up.

The scam begins before you even pay them anything. They sent me a quote after I sent them a very detailed inventory. Along with their quote, I received an email with a link to "their" BBB rating. Upon following the link, it leads to a completely different company with a very similar name. Can you say fraud?

My story, like so many others, involves paying them a downpayment based on the quote, movers arrive, pack up stuff, then tell you how much it's really going to cost you. Your only choice at that point is to 1: forfeit the downpayment AND PAY THEM to unload your stuff, or 2: go ahead and let them move hoping that you stuff arrives at the destination. I have never written a negative review for any company before this. Infact I rarely spend time to write any reviews. But since this was an extreme experience, I feel compelled to write a review. Please bear with me. This post is not to discourage you from engaging Public Moving Services but just to make you aware of the possibilities and urge you to prepare and plan accordingly. My experience can be an exception and you might have a different experience. That said, I highly suspect that the other reviews are posted by company's social media team.

I got a new job in Dallas and decided to move from Virginia. I talked to Alex from the sales team and he seemed very helpful. I was to start my job on 31st July and wanted to settle into my new house before that. I have a travelling job and so wanted to make sure my furniture in delivered well before 31st July. Alex was very helpful and recommended that for July 26th delivery, I should send the goods well in advance so I moved up my pickup date to 18th July. I took multiple confirmations from Alex that my furniture would reach before 26th. There was some confusion in the quotation about charges for packing material and so I inquired about that with Alex. After getting assurance that I would not be charged extra for packing material, I gave an advance payment and closed the deal. I also got a good deal from them for moving my car and made advance payment for that as well.

Fast forward to pickup day. The team shows up and demands extra money for packing material. Upon protest I get the response that they do not care what my discussion was with sales team and they go by their procedure. The front man of the pickup team was a reasonable guy and we agreed that we should talk to the sales team to clarify any miscommunication. The sales team does not pick up my calls and does not reply to voice mails. After waiting for some time, I gave up and decided to pay the extra fees. The team was very efficient and packed my house under 90 mins.

For car pickup, the driver does not show up. I wait for a few days calling the company daily. 5 days after the pickup day I get a call that driver is arriving for pickup. I had left Virginia by then to be present for furniture delivery in Dallas. My wife who was still in town was supposed to manage the car pickup. The driver who is 5 days late was impatient enough to tell my wife that she needs to give the car immediately and he can not wait till lunch time. She had to leave the meeting in the office to give the car.

Though painful, I was relieved that pickup is complete. Now that they have my car, they email me an updated quote increasing the price. This was not discussed even at the time of pickup. Next day they send another quote increasing the price again. The driver with car arrived in Dallas (8 days after original delivery date) and told me he does not know about the original quote and would not deliver the car unless I pay full updated price in cash. He was equally impatient this time. I valued my car more than I valued few hundred extra bucks, so decided to give in to the hostage situation and pay up.

About the furniture, 18 days (August 13th) after the promised delivery date, I am still waiting for my furniture. I have been living in an empty house and calling the office daily. The only response I received so far is "We have not scheduled the delivery yet and would let you know when we do"

I could never talk to Alex after the advance payment. I am buying new furniture now since I have lost all hope. Though I do not expect the service to change drastically now, to be fair, I will update the review based on what happens next.

This firm provided us with an estimate of $3,555 to move our household goods, so we agreed and made a down payment of $850. On moving day they reviewed our household goods and revised the cost to $11,500, an increase of 324%!! We refused to allow them to load up our goods and they have refused to refund our down payment of $850. I believe they provided us with a very fraudulent estimate in order to obtain our business and our down payment and for this reason we deserve a refund of our down payment. Their personnel very rude and arrogant when we attempted to obtain a refund of our down payment.

  • Jul 13, 2017

This company moved my niece and her family from Indiana to Florida recently. They started by rescheduling the loading appointment several times, then charged them double what they had quoted, then delayed their delivery for four solid weeks. When they finally got their stuff, several pieces of furniture were damaged and destroyed and they demanded cash in double the amount quoted, again, before they would even open their truck! This company should be punished!

  • Jul 3, 2017

These people were crooks from beginning to end.

They start with a low ball offer, then request a down payment. My salesman James McCarthy, gave me a binding estimate of $2,098 for a studio apt. The night before pick-up, they call and "revise inventory list" to increase price (1'st increase). Received a call from Danny Dimare informing me it would be an additional $872; On pick up day, you are told you went over contracted cubic feet and they need more money (2nd price increase). I then received a call from customer service asking for an additional $3,700. If and when your belongings do arrive, mine after several delays, you are told it will cost even more money (3rd price increase) or they will just drive away with your belongings and you will be charged for storage and sued if you don't pay.

In my case, they just left half of my belongings behind saying they wouldn't fit on the truck, after I just payed them the 2nd price increase. When I did receive the other half of my belongings......what was left? They lost my 60' smart tv and the headboard to my bed and several boxes. My wood furninture was either broken, gouged (not scratched) or destroyed.

At some point during the move they stopped answering my phone calls, (they rely heavily on caller ID). At one point I was told that salesmen do not take phone calls from their customers once the contract is signed, the general Manager Faith Ashford just doesnt take phone calls, dispatch doesnt accept phone calls nor does the claims department. hmmm

Like I said, scammed from beginning to end. Run from these people

BEWARE: This is a SCAM! I learned about Public Moving Services' duplicitous strategies and hope to prevent others from having the same experience. First, we were tentatively guaranteed a same-day pick-up and delivery from Boston to NJ with the understanding that, at worst, unforeseen circumstances could bump the delivery date to the following day. That was clearly explained and understood. When the movers arrived at my house, they informed me that it would more likely be 5-7 days before my items arrived. After a heated discussion, they agreed to deliver the following day as originally promised. My moving consultant Alex B. drastically and intentionally under-estimated the cost of my move. It was not until the truck was fully loaded with my belongings that the movers informed me that the cost of my move would be $1,100 MORE than the original BINDING estimate. They reasoned that my belongings took up more space in the truck than originally estimated. They refused to explain to me the pricing policies that warranted such a drastic increase in the estimate. Aside from the original deposit, this is a cash-only operation, which means there is no way to dispute the exchange of funds. They refused to unpack the truck until they were paid in full. We repeatedly requested to speak to a customer service agent to help us understand the discrepancy between the original estimate and the final price. The movers contacted a customer service representative, Angela, who initially REFUSED to speak to us. She kept instructing the movers to settle the dispute with us themselves. Any company whose employees refuse to speak to customers is most certainly operating a scam. When we insisted to speak to her prior to giving the movers the outstanding balance, Angela proceeded to scream at us on the phone and accuse us of ruining her Sunday morning. Moving is stressful enough, and Public Moving Services became the most stressful part of my move. Do yourself a favor- book with another company.

Received binding moving estimate of $3750.00 (1225 cubic feet) from Adam Gates of Public Moving Services to move from Whitehall PA to Kill Devil Hills NC on 4-24-17. Signed Credit Card Charge for Deposit Only and Binding Moving Estimate on 4-28.17. Pickup scheduled for Wednesday May 17 or Thursday May 18 and delivery scheduled "not before Monday 5-22-17." Contacted by Danny M of QA Public Moving Services to verify inventory and determine if additional cubic feet space required. Requested cubic feet to be revised by adding additional items to inventory. Danny advised 1451 cubic feet at cost $5570.00 and emailed revised binding Moving estimate; however, $1000.00 origin/destination charge added to order to allow access to additional space on truck. $5570.00 equaled $1820.00 cost increase. I was already charged for 226 additional cubic feet, why was I being charged a second time for same thing? I refused to sign new estimate and requested old estimate Movers 2 hours late picking up furniture coming from Maryland and ran into traffic. Arrived 2:30 left 5:30. Wrote check for $2585.00 (75% of balance due) Mover tried to deliver Friday May 19 (before settlement before I owned house) even though stated not before Monday 5-22. Driver delivered different load to Charlotte and truck broke down for 1 week. No one from Public contacted me to advise situation.

My furniture arrived Saturday 5-27-17. I waited 10 days for furniture and was never notified of delay. Driver requested $3447,00 cash for delivery, Angela and Emma demanded $3447.00 or furniture would be sent to warehouse and I would receive $2500.00 charge. She voided my check since could not clear over weekend for Monday delivery. No Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday delivery; yet, she held check for 1 week. Plenty of time for check to clear. I wait 10 days for furniture with no notice of delay, Public Moving has my check for 1 week with plenty of time to clear and voids check, demands $3447.000 cash. That is not right!
