North American Van Lines Reviews

  • Aug 16, 2022

We were told by both the North American truck driver and our Longmont, CO North American "Move Coordinator" that our household goods were to be delivered on March 30, 2022. Given "all our goods were picked up in Colorado on March 24 and it is a 2000 plus mile drive to Fort Myers (4 day driving trip), we hustled to drive to meet the truck on March 30th.

What caused the delay, was a supposed truck mechanical breakdown in Jackson, MS which both the driver and move coordinator confirmed just so happened to be the drivers hometown (where he lived). What a coincidence!

Our goods were loaded on the semi truck along with 2 other families both moving to Florida.

Our closing on our home in Colorado was scheduled for April 5th but the buyers agreed to delay closing to accommodate us due to the moving delivery delay. We were told multiple times the truck was fixed and would be one day out.

Finally, on April 8, we were told that a "part" was needed to be ordered and installed to fix the truck. One would think a major moving company would not delay delivering 3 household goods by renting another truck to complete the delivery. Finally, they did this by renting a truck to deliver our most of our goods with the driver on April 18th. The original truck never made the delivery.

The move coordinator confirmed (we were communicating with her almost daily the delay status) that no delivery would be made on 11th or 12th. So, we flew to Denver closed on 11th and returned on 12th in time for new delivery date which was now on 18th.

At no time did we refuse to be available for any earlier delivery date given that our goods as well as 2 other households were according to driver and move coordinator were in Jackson, Ms. There was never any agreement to "hold our belongings until 4/18 at no charge).

We incurred unreimbursed hotel and last minute high airline flight charges returning to Colorado to handle our house closing due to their delay.

Both the move coordinator and driver confirmed that our 2 king size mattresses were never loaded on semi truck leaving Denver. When North American picked up our goods it was in a box truck to be taken to their semi trailer for loading.

Amazingly, they did deliver the 2 king size box springs but not the mattresses. Also, to demonstrate their incompetence, they were unable to assemble our master bed and just left it in our room unusable. Thus, we had no beds to sleep in resulting in 4 hotel stays while they were searching for what happened to our mattresses (still in storage in Denver we were told). We were unable to use all our bedrooms with our unassembled master bed resulting in our daughter canceling her visit until we had use of both beds.

Both the move coordinator and driver were shocked to hear the 2 “king size” mattresses were never loaded out of Denver. Obviously, the local Denver people North American hired to pickup our goods in a box truck somehow screwed up on the mattresses. I noticed the box truck had other goods already in it when they started loading ours.

Our contract called for a $100 per day reimbursement for delivery delay starting on April 10 thru April 29th for final delivery of all goods. We failed a claim for this delivery delay amount and claim for the numerous furniture items they damaged in the delivery.

Yes, we paid extra for their so called “replacement cost” damage insurance. North American only paid a small $400 for the delay (4 days) and only paid for a “repair estimate” which they produced using their vendor – not replacement cost given that some of damaged furniture was beyond repair.

Bottom line is we selected North American given they are a national company and had decent reviews vs. the smaller movers even though their move cost was much higher. Our move with this company was a disaster.

One would be smart to look at their other major competitors for a multi-state move. Be advised their sister company is Allied Van Lines – so if their customer service is the same, I would suggest avoiding them also. STAY AWAY FROM NORTH AMERICAN VAN LINES!

Beware of this company. They are con artists and pathological liars! clearly, i should have read all of these horrible reviews on yelp, bbb and scamion before i decided to proceed with them. Our sales guy, larry corley, is a complete joke! sold us then never ever talked to us after that. Referred us to our "specialized" move coordinator, tia brewington, and she was non-existent until i had to escalate my emails and calls. Terrible communication!

This company arrived at my house on may 23 to load the "trailer" that they said they needed to get down my street And by the way, my next door neighbors had united van lines 72' truck come down the street with no problem). They arrived 2 hours late smelling like pot!

The truck never left atlanta until may 31 (8 days after they loaded truck) and didn't arrive at my new location until the very last day, june 8th, after which larry had ensured that we may even have our delivery there by june 1st! that should have been my first red flag.

Upon receiving my furniture, i noticed that the majority of my furniture was beaten up with dents, scratches and destroyed!!!!! boxes looked like they were kicked and beaten with a sledge hammer!

I've already had to file a claim from when the loaders dented my wall and begged me not to file anything since they were contractors Another lie that larry told).

The workers are not employed by north american. They are employed by beltmann relocation group. Don't get fooled. North american makes beltmann pay for any claim made so they don't have to and they try and sell you on the most expensive move package with $0 deductible and its a scam! so far $8,000+ worth of damages and growing.

Do your homework. Do not use this company. They are terrible. This company is crap and personally i think they are really sketchy all the way around!

Pictures don't lie!

My things were picked up in Oklahoma and I moved to Pittsburgh. My stuff has not moved. It's been 10 days and the DRIVER NEVER PICKED UP MY THINGS. NEVER. No one bothered to mention that there was an entire shipment waiting for pick-up, they just let it sit there until I started bugging them about delivery. Now they have no idea when it will get there and don't seem too concerned at all that this happened. No one has said the words "i'm sorry" to me. This is insane. I'm living on folding chairs and an air mattress and they just email me and say, the driver never picked up your things, we don't know what's going on but we're looking into it. These people are UNRELIABLE and UNTRUSTWORTHY.

Used North America Van Lines to move me from Fl to Nv. They broke 50% of my furniture, and would do nothing to help. Refused to process insurance claim or pay for damages. I am going to have to sue them to get reimbursed for the cost of my items they broke. I would not recommend them to anyone.

IF YOU WANT ALL OF YOUR VALUABLES RIFLED THROUGH AND STOLEN, HIRE THIS COMPANY.

The pick up of our things was straightforward enough, ended up being a bit more than quoted but we expected that as we added a few more boxes. Transit only took 1.5 weeks from Atlanta to NYC and that's not bad at all. Lorraine at the office handled my crazy calls like a pro when I started panicking about where my stuff was, she was super nice and helpful and passed along any and all updates that she could.

Also the guys that delivered and unloaded my things in NYC were great. Super quick, efficient and complete gentleman all the way. They unwrapped all of the big items and placed everything in the correct rooms per my directions. They had the truck unloaded in about 1.5 hours.

The trouble started when we were unpacking and found several expensive items missing from our boxes. Electronics, jewelry, clothing.

All of it had obvious logos on it so we know what they were going for. I feel like i've been robbed and its super unsettling to think of my personal belonging being rifled through by thieves like it was a god d**n free for all.

Also, idiots you left half of the cords and parts of the electronics you stole so good luck using/selling them without it. Also have fun wearing my used and dirty Jordans that you took also as well as my gaudy high school class ring (really where are you going to pawn that with my initials and soccer jersey number on it).

To the management team, try not to hire disgusting and crooked idiotic thieves for employees.

I went over and over everything with them prior to coming to get everything, and had a quote for 3822.50. Once they came and went through my house they gave me a "worse case scenario" price of $5000.00. They packed everything onto their truck, and handed me a bill for $7500.00. It's the biggest ripoff that I know of. They know you are stuck, your stuff is on their truck, you've just sold your home, and are about to move across the country. This should be illegal. They just get you...and they take your money.

When they arrived with my stuff finally, they wanted to charge me more saying it was more than 75 feet. I counted it out, and it wasn't. I helped move things out of the truck so I wouldn't get charged more. One box was missing, and it had all of my tax papers in it! It has not been returned. I've had to put a fraud alert out on my credit. Do not use this company.

These people are trying to cash in on the name of the larger moving company North American Vanlines but they aren't even close to the honesty and interegity of this major vanline! This is just an small local moving company with only one sales person (No one else wishes to work there because they have an problem paying their employess and everyone knows they scam their customers with bait and switch tactics? I went to work there and was appaled at how dishonest this "moving company" is everyone lies to their teeth and all day we had customers call in with complaints and the management could care less about what happens they're only interested in the money! So sad I could never work in an place like this I feel so sorry for the customers that have been scammed by these people!

Book North American Van lines for my interstate move. Pick up date was July 28 or 29. They gave me several excuses why the "driver" could not load on those dates. Finally they had local contracted agent take my belongings from my house to hold in storage until the "driver" could pick them up. Deliver window was Aug 1 - 12. As of today AUG 18 my belongings are still sitting in storage at that facility!!!

Customer service states that they have a driver shortage and cannot find a driver to assign to my move! Every day I get the same excuse...right up to Cindy Balestra, assistant to Bill Lyons, CEO of North American and their sister company ALLIED. In fact they said they can't find a driver from either of their companies! They are not compensating me, nor reducing the fee for my move (which they charged to my credit card on the day of pick up). They continue to tell me a driver will be assigned when the resources are available!!!!!

They also said their business is to transport goods from point a to point b: they do not promise to do so in any set period of time...What???????

I have filed a complaint with BBB, FMCSA and AMSA. Still my belongings sit in my former home state! Do not use North American nor Allied movers (corporate headquarters Ft. Wayne IN).

If you are also being screwed around by them, the assistant's number is Cindy Balestra 2604293258. Not that calling her or the president does any good. They could not care less!

Fax 260 429 1220. Email [email protected]

It took 3 weeks to get the customer service manager to give me the contact number for upper management...she refused! However, upper management is NOT doing anything to resolve the issue...now I get emails from Cindy saying the same thing: we don't have any drivers available!

If you don't have drivers, don't accept any business!!!!!
