North America's Readers reviews

I just had the very same thing happen yesterday 10/01/2015 They called me back several times and threatened me it was awful..they they charged my cc for a $ amount and said I had to pay it or get renewed for$80 for 5 years. I spoke to 4 different people and they got worse every time. I would like to know what I can do to stop these charges and phone calls.

I was contacted on 26 August by a company which would not reveal their name until I had asked them to. They asked me if I had been recieving my magazines on time and in good condition. I said yes, as I have a few subcriptions...but not with them. "They" being the North American Reader's Choice.

They knew my address, name and obviously my phone number. They asked my marital status, job title and birthday. As a fool, I provided the information. At that point they seemed legit. They were calling to inform me that my monthly subscription of $49.90 would be increased to $59.90 and that their corporate headquaters were getting a lot of complaints about the price change.

SO they offered me the chance to opt out, but only after I confirmed the credit card number that they had on file. The number of the card they had was not mine and they wasnted me to give them the correct one to ensure I was not charged in the future. Luckily, I did not have the card with me at the time. I immediately called my credit card company to ensure that no charges were placed upon my account.

If you get a call from these guys DO NOT answer their questions. It is a scam to collect Personally Identifyable Information (PII) to gain access to your hard earned money.

Called my son who is a young man with special needs. He recieved the phone call on his cell, therefore, I had no idea the predatory practices took place. He had no idea the scam they were swindling him into. I take a look at my son's bank account to make sure he is handling his money appropriately. He is improving in his life skills and independence. I saw the $29.94 automatic withdrawals from his account and questioned him. He was embarrassed because he did not understand how that happened. I called this company and battled verbally to stop taking money out of my son's account. I asked about this so called contract and to send a copy so we could end this subscription. They sent an invoice and no contract. I took my son to the bank and changed his account number to prevent the withdrawals. I told them we did no longer want the magzines so we are not expecting to see anymore in the mail. At this point I would like my son to be refunded for magazines he did not need nor wanted. I sent a letter to the company with this request and now we are wating for a reqponse. I will post any responses from Readers Choice.

I have tried for the past 3 years to cancel my subscription to North Americas Readers Choice. I have done this over the phone and by email, yet they are still billing me for these magazines and even turned me over to a different agency. I am fed up with it and apparently there are other people having the same issue with these people. Please help.

I am a retired woman of 57 years of age living on SSD from depression and a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. I get easily confused especially on the phone with people who insist on talking right over the top of you. I received a phone call telling me that I had been chosen to be entered into a drawing for X amount of dollars and would be receiving a couple of special gifts and could choose six magazines to be sent for 60 months for this nominal fee. I accepted the offer to be entered in the sweepstakes drawing but wished to decline everything else.

What happened instead was that I was asked which magazines I wanted. As I'm trying to tell this woman that I wasn't interested in the magazines, she's continually naming off magazine titles one after the other. This went on for several minutes until she told me that she'd be transferring me to her supervisor to make sure everything was correct.

The supervisor comes on the line and goes into a different sort of spiell which is when I get completely lost. Next thing I know I'm getting six new magazines and being charged a $39.90 monthly fee. And the worst thing is that I would never read any of the magazines they're sending me in a million years!

I would really like to stop these subscriptions completely or at the very least lessen the total amount of money this is going to cost me. If it's impossible to stop getting the magazines, I'd agree to do that.

local news to help with scam

The "North America's Reader's Choice" (company) and I use that term lightly because no legitimate company would ethically behave in this way...looking back now. So,while on the phone with Chris Reed, a supervisor, something in my core told me that what he was saying to me was BS. So, I placed him on hold and booted up my computer. While it was loading, I checked back in with him and made sure I still had him on the line and he was...patiently. I know that he knew that there was a nice commission on the $1770.00 bill on my card. I, on the other hand with my gut feeling only had that...a gut feeling. Ill armed with my 2008 desk top whining of the search command asked of it, went to find something out there in WWW. la te da.com land. And I did..."scam!" "don't do it!" countless links screamed at me with their indigo lettering and formally underlined. But it was too late! I had already "verified" my card, birthday, and had been recorded saying a clear "Yes" to several questions from Chris Reed of North America's Reader's Choice, to verify such personal information. I had no idea that this would happen to me because I have usually always been very keen to these scams. This one was different! VERY different! I was to simply verify that I no longer wished to receive the magazines. The recording was a contract, said Chris. I was then instructed to say "Yes" to everything except the very last question, which was to be a "no" on whether or not to renew my subscriptions. This new recorded contract would serve to replace the old contract and this would prevent ANY FURTHER BILLING. Not so much in that the transaction, which was 1 of 30, had already posted to my tiny ssi check before Chris Reed and myself were off of the phone, I learned this after contacting my debit card company that issues my ssi money on my card. And as most of you on here seem to have in common with my self is that the majority of us are in fixed incomes. That says a lot about North America's Reader's Choice. They intentionally seek their victims based on an age criteria, as well as a mental capabilities criteria and this should be illegal if it is not already. I have contacted all three network news channels for support in this matter, along with FOX, and lastly the WWW.la te da.com. and yes,,,the old desktop is really crying now and I will be also if I cannot get my money back.

We were sent an ad for a free magazine trial and are now being billed for 7 other magazines at a total of $1,77.00 at $59.00 a month, they've already deducted $59.00 from our Discover card. We called them to dispute the charge. We have called the company several times to tell them to discontinue all magazines and charges several times without anything being done except to hang up on us.
