Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles Reviews

The Nevada DMV is difficult to deal with. Generally speaking,Incompetence and rude behavior dominate the operation . One normanlly takes this in stride, but today's' incident was the deal breaker. Nevada, like many states has a new "real ID" rule about drivers licenses. I am white, male, retired. I got my real ID in a matter of minutes by presenting my passport and something with my residence address on it. It was issued in minutes. Easy, right? My wife is a naturalized citizen originally from El Salvador. She has been a licensed driver in Nevada for years. Today, she went in person to get the so called "real ID." She took with her a valid US Passport, her original Social Security card and Correspondence showing our home address, including the DMV renewal notice. Enough, right? Guess again! They sent her home for more proof, like proof of health insurance and income. What does that have to do with anything? Since I am retired, my wife has never needed to work so I provided her with our medical insurance records and ID. She also took a copy of our 2016, joint tax return, our joint bank statement, car registration and insurance showing both names. This time for sure, right? Wrong! The excuse used was that her original Social Security card says "For employment" on it so it could not be used to establish her identification since she does not have a W2 or a 1099. I guess the number is good enough for the IRS To steal our money, but not good enough to let her on a plane. So why was it so easy for me to get my ID and so difficult for her? I will let the reader draw his own conclusion, but I cannot help the feeling that they messed with her because she is Hispanic and has some difficulty with English. When she got her first drivers license about eight years ago, she was also required to show an enormous pile of Documents to prove her identity. That time, she was at the DM V from opening until closing. Oh! One other thing.....they trusted her ID enough to accept her credit card for the transaction.
