Moana Nursery Reviews

  • Jul 14, 2018

In October, 2017, I bought my daughter and son in law $14,000 in bushes and trees for their equestrian center/ranch in Reno, Nv.

Moana Nursery provided a promotion for a credit card, Wells Fargo, that would charge no interest for a year. So, I gave Moana permission to plant their selection of bushes and a few fruit trees in the back area of the ranch.

Winter ensued, the rains came and it was clear that only the green bushes were robust and healthy enough to thrive. The red bushes on either side of the green bushes never gained any growth. They looked sickly from Day 1.

In March, I sent an email and was concerned regarding the health and growth of the red bushes. I did not receive an initial response so I kept calling and trying to reach someone. I finally got ahold of David S who is some kind of manager at Moana. David was very monotone in his response, as if he is trained to deflect any issues or criticism in a pattern of responses.

Eventually, David S and Harvey B visited the ranch and said the plant maintenance was not correct. That seemed odd as the green bushes were doing just fine however the red bushes were dying. If the maintenance was wrong, why would one bush survive and the other not?? According to David and Harvey, the red bushes do not like as much water but the green bushes do. All these bushes are planted around a lawn that needs lots of water so perhaps the red bushes should never have been planted if they do not like water, next to green bushes that do.

We also just discovered from our equine vet that the bushes that were planted are toxic to horse. Because there are over 70 horses on the ranch in clear sight one would think that "experts" like the Moana "team" would understand what plants are toxic and which are not. The apple trees are also toxic to dogs and there are 8 dogs on the property. Nothing was ever mentioned re the bushes being toxic until one of the horses fell sick.

The response from Moana has been patronizing and "tough luck". Fortunately, Wells Fargo Credit is working with me as there is still $11,000 still owed on the $14,000 bill so there is some leverage.

When meeting with David, Harvey, a woman named Shabid and another worker named Pepe, the general attitude was we are right and you are wrong. Now that we have a sick horse and vet bills to add to what we want refunded, perhaps they will pay a little more attention.

This is a group to avoid as their attention to detail and customer service is non existent. Do not believe the advertising.
