Midway Chevrolet Reviews

  • Feb 20, 2017

I purchased a 2014 Malibu in December 2015. After being taken into the finance office to sign papers, I was lied to repeatedly. I was told that the number one reason for repossessions is unexpected repairs and an extended warranty would cover everything for the life of the loan. I was told it even covered removing stains from the seats. I was told that I would be getting notices twice a year to bring my car in for clearcoat treatment as part of my paint coverage. I was concerned with my interest rate but was told that I would be able to refinance after 6 or 8 months and get a better interest rate and payment. I was told that the warranty and other add ons (smartnote, gap insurance) would look good to lenders. About 7 months later, I had my car towed to Midway for a flat tire. (because there was no spare) I was told that my warranty does not cover tires. I asked how it could cover stain removal from the seats but not tires and was told "it doesn't cover stain removal just like it doesn't cover paint". I have now tried 4 times to refinance and have been denied because I owe so much more than the car is worth. ($3,000 warranty, smartnote, gap insurance) I am now stuck with a payment that is much too high for a Malibu and the car is now having mechanical issues that I cannot pay for because I bought a $3,000 warranty that apparently doesn't cover anything.

On August 14, 2015, I went to Midway Chevrolet to get my ignition switch replaced due to a recall on my 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. After the work was done, I was informed by Hugh, one of the service technicians, that my car needed an engine mount replaced stating that it was leaking oil. They wanted to charge me $212.33 for this work. I indicated to him that I would take my car to my mechanic and have him take a look at it, and if Midway Chevrolet would match the cost that he would charge, I would possibly bring it back to Midway and have them do the work. He did not give me any paperwork for this, as I do feel this was a scam. I have no proof that this is what he told me and I am sure he meant to not give me any paperwork so I could not prove what he told me, since it was false. My mechanic said no engine mount needed to be replaced, and that it is not something that "leaks oil". I was told by Midway that it could cause a lot of damage when the car heats up and that it is something I should repair asap since the temperature is well over 105 degrees. I also checked with my friend's husband, who is a retired mechanic for a competitor of Midway, and he confirmed that no engine mount needs to be replaced. He even put it on his lift to show me where the engine mounts are located, and that they are not "leaking oil", which is something that they don't do. Needless to say, I am livid. Someone in sales by the name of Sam called me and I indicated to him that I am very angry that Midway was trying to rip me off. Sam said he would relay the information to the service department's manager, but I have heard nothing back from him.

I was also told by my mechanic that a lot of his customers are people who purchased their car from Midway, but will not get their car serviced there because they "feel that Midway service department does not know what they are doing". I know this is hearsay, but I feel the same way. Not only that, but I feel that they are in the habit of attempting to rip-off people for repairs that do not need to be done. I feel that they have a scam going on and I do intend on reporting this to the Attorney General's office. I could have put out over $200.00 for nothing! This is dishonest and they should have to answer to this outrageous act.
