They arrived over 3 hours late (whenever I rang to see where they were I was told “we’re just pulling up we’ll be with you in 10 minutes”) and then literally the first thing they do is pick up the one bit of furniture that means anything to me (my Great Grandmother’s Victorian writing desk) and drop it. They didn’t think to remove the drawers to make it lighter (despite my wife telling them to do so) and when it fell the legs of the desk buckled and fell off.

They then implied that it was inevitable because it is an old desk and is very heavy with weak legs. When I pointed out that it has lasted 150 years so far without any problems and made it from the UK to Miami without any damage and perhaps the fault doesn’t so much lie with the desk but more with their dropping of it they became very defensive and said not to worry, it’s easily fixed.

They offered to use a staple gun to jam the legs back on and got even more offended when I said I would prefer for an antique furniture expert to carry out that task rather than some clumsy removal people who at that stage had broken 100% of the items they had touched in my apartment.

They eventually moved the rest of the furniture, including the broken desk (which they didn’t empty properly and just turned on its side so all the contents fell out everywhere) and half way through the move gave me some paperwork to sign.

On reviewing the paperwork I spotted a clause that essentially waived my right to hold them liable for any damage caused to any of the items moved and I said I wasn’t happy signing it as they had already damaged the one item that I actually cared about. They had done about 3 hours work so I was happy to pay them, but I wasn’t going to sign that clause as I intended to claim on their insurance for the damage to the desk. Again they were very offended by this and thought I was being unreasonable.

I rang their head office and they said not to worry, they would make it right as their customer service is excellent and they will open a claim - send them pictures and they’ll file the claim and get back to me within a week. They said I could cross out the offending clause and so I did just that.

I paid for the move and followed up regarding the claim a week later. I’m then told that actually it takes up to a month for the insurer to handle the claim. I follow up a month later and am told they are working on it, will check the file and call me straight back. No call. I call again a week later and am told that the customer service rep that handles complaints was fired and that I should contact the new guy to sort this out - he is up to speed with the case and will sort me out. I’ve called and left messages but, predictably, have not heard back.

There are some fairly generous reviews here but I think people should be warned - moving furniture from one place to another is NOT a complex task and so a lot of the time even relatively incompetent people will be able to do so with minimal problems and their customers are happy. HOWEVER, things can go wrong and when they do, do you really want to be dealing with dishonest people who have literally zero customer service? It’s just not worth the risk. I feel a mug for paying them and should have withheld the payment until the claim was sorted - still, lesson learnt but I suggest you don’t engage this company for your moving needs.
