MetLife Reviews

  • Aug 9, 2019

On 01/10/2019, I received a MetLife billing statement regarding my auto insurance, indicating a 50% rate increase.

On 01/11/2019, I called MetLife and was told that the increase was due to an accident I had on 07/06/2016. My MetLife Agent told me (for the first time since the 2016 accident) that MetLife and State Farm had agreed to jointly pay a passenger, in the vehicle that hit me, who claimed she was injured. This, after my agent had agreed, multiple times within the first few months after the accident, that MetLife would not make any payout regarding the accident and if anything changed, he would immediately notify me. MetLife did not live up to that agreement and I was never informed about a 07/26/2018 payout which, in effect agreed that I was at fault.

Immediately after the accident, I reported the details of the accident to my MetLife agent. MetLife came to my home and took multiple photos of my truck that clearly showed the other driver hit me as opposed to her claim on the accident report that I hit her. I had an eye witness who told the investigating officer that he saw the accident and that the other driver ran the red light and hit me. The other driver provided the investigating officer with phone numbers of two witnesses who she said couldn't wait for the officer to arrive at the scene.

However, as I was never notified until 2.5 years after the accident that MetLife and State Farm agreed to settle out of court, I never had the opportunity to have the accident investigated by a professional who could have proved that the driver of the car that hit me was speeding. She stated on the accident report that she was going 15 mph. Her vehicle was a 2001 Hunda weighing abour 2900 lbs and my truck is a 1987 F150 4X4 weighing over 5500 lbs. When she hit me she lifted the right side of my truck about 12 inches off the ground, sliding it sideways for two feet, and causing it to end up 180 degrees in the opposite direction when it came back down. The impact also caused the tailgate to fly off the truck.

I have been driving for over 62 years and this was the only collision I have ever had. I also have never had any points assessed against my liscense. I thought that my insurance company would be protecting my interests. However, MetLife broke their word to me. Because I never had the opportunity to have the accident investigated by a professional, I ultimately had to pay $3700.00 to have my truck repaired. I am amazed that an insurance can get away with failure to notify me that they had settled my case and I only found out 2.5 years after the accident by checking why my insurance rate had increased by 50%.

Heartland Dental Group Leavenworth, 3507 South 4th St. Trafficway, Leavenworth KS, 66048 913-682-1000 billed me $515 because Metlife Dental (which has been my dental insurance over a year) denied 2 dental charges. My primary dental insurance (Tricare Retiree Dental Program) forward 2 dental claims of mine to Metlife Dental for their share of the payment (there have been no dental problem claims the past year with either dental program). Suddenly Metlife Dental denied 2 of my dental claims.

When I called Metlife Dental Claims (1 800-942-0854) on Dec. 7 at 11:54 Kansas local time), Metlife claim department claim that they had indeed denied my 2 dental claims and I needed to contact Tricare Retiree Dental Program and have them sent to Metlife Dental something in writing that would give Metlife permission to now be now be my primary dental program before Metlife Dental could pay any more of my dental claims.

So I called Tricare Retiree Dental customer service (1 888-838-8737 at 11:33 on Nov. 12) and talked to Tiffany Fears ([email protected]) on Dec. 12) and talked with Tiffany Fears about what Metlife Dental told me to request from Tricare Retiree Dental Program to put in writing that Metlife Dental was to now be my new primary dental insurance. Tiffany Fears explained that what I was requesting made no sense to her. Tiffany Fears further explained when Tiffany pulled my Tricare Dental history and said:

07/10/2018 claim #180710286144 Tricare paid $71.20 and Metlife Dental was billed $67.80

07/03/2018 claim #1807102861633 Tricare paid $89.00 (100% paid) Metlife Dental paid nothing.

12/01/2017 claim# 1712012993517 Tricare paid $163.00 (100% paid) Metlife Dental paid nothing.

I only request the last dental claims and bill dates. So right now, I do not know what the 2nd dental claim that Metlife Dental denied.

Tiffany Fears sent me my last dental claim numbers and payment information.

Is now oblivious to me Metlife is running a scam on military retirees who have both Tricare Retiree Dental Program and Metlife Dental. Because the Tricare Retiree Dental Program ends on Dec. 31, Metlife Dental is defrauding military retires by not paying some of their 2018 dental claims and Heartland Dental Group Leavenworth charged me $155.00 which is now in the process of being deducted from my Community America Credit Union account.

Metlife uses multiple tactics to deny and delay your disability claim such as lost paperwork, not sending doc requests to your doctors, etc. I sent them a disability statement from my doctor along with reports showing a damaged back, damaged kidney, damaged neck and damaged hands. Afterward they said they now needed to have my doctors comment on an "independent physician review." Just endless paperwork to keep you from getting your benefits.

They are also good at calling your doctor on the phone and trying to trick them into saying something irrelevant which they can twist around, manipulate and delay your claim.

Metlife will also try to make you pay the fees for medical records even though they know it isn't your responsibility. They try to play dumb or misuse labels to confuse all parties involved hoping they can get you to fork over the cost of the copies.

Do not trust them. If you are not receiving your benefits within a year, make sure that you file a lawsuit against them before the statute of limitations runs out. They are trying to delay past the statute of limitations you so that you lose your right to sue. Perhaps they are hoping to take advantage of an untimely accident, death, etc. that would allow them to escape your claim.

They delay you while their executives get big bonuses at policy holders expense. Metlife is disgraceful.

We are seniors here, 80 and 82 for my husband. We have MetLife Insurance for our care for extra coverage in case we need home assistance or other assistance, the Insurance would pay for it. We had this for around 15 years, paying every year, a 1,000.00 for me and 900.00 for Tom.Now yesterday, a letter came saying they are increasing our price to 70% and there is no way that we can pay all of this.

The MetLife know that we are now seniors and will may one day need this service so this is what they are doing to all of us.

This should be made know what this Insurance is doing to seniors now.Is there some way that you could see what is going on with this as so many others are being "taken" like we are and have been.We also need to have all those years our money given back to us since they violated all of us, the seniors.

We have had Metlife Home and Auto Insurance for a number of years. Recently I had a couple of minor fender benders that were not my fault and Metlife just rolls over and pays the other people because it is cheaper to pay than it is to defend their insured. We pay this company thousands a year in premiums and have for at least 7 years. In spite of this, their claims adjusters are rude, unhelpful, don't listen, pass judgement without looking at photos and insist on recording your statement. After recording my statement today, the claims adjuster Jamelia Triola at x5363 lambasted me saying I was 100% guilty with no comparable negligence and she had not even looked at the photos of the scene of the accident. I have had it with this company and my best recommendation is to bypass Metlife. They want your money but treat their customers like crap.
