They said I was hacked for 600 to my BofA account

  • Apr 19, 2023

I paid for upgraded computer protection at a cost of $89.99. Shortly after, my computer started doing all kind of weird things (ie changing & deleting documents).

I worked with it trying to correct things that messed up for months believing it couldn't be a virus because I had supposedly purchased good virus protection.

Finally, I took it to Best Buy, where they found and deleted 14 viruses at a cost to me of $199.99. I have notified McAfee of the problem and asked for a refund. However, I haven't heard back from them.

McAfee 2022 Alert To:[email protected] Tue, Oct 25 at 2:57 PM URGENT: Your McAfee Subscription may have expired...Your device has been infected with (23) Viruses

  • Oct 3, 2022

Mcaffe LLC Mcaffe virus protection was cancelled after they took $28.16 from my account for a device I no longer owned last year. I just discovered an unauthorized payment of $64.79 and the customer support person was mocking me and refused to let me talk to the supervisor.

He refused to refund the money. This company is a ripoff and I want my money back Gave me the run around and kept making fun of me. They are located in Southern California. 6220 America Center Dr, San Jose, CA 94089

DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE PAYING FOR CLASSES WITH THIS COMPANY.

I used my time and money on a certification that I finished at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Because I complained on the web about their email response after inquiring about a refund, they "expelled” me and took away my first certification. And kept my $1,000. I was also in the middle of completing a 2nd course that I spent another $1,000 on, and they blocked me from finishing that. This company kept $2000 of my money stating that I violated their agreement saying that I have to remain professional and not post or say negative things about the company.

Isn’t it odd that this company makes you agree not to complain about them before you take their classes? What company operates this way? And they hold this over your head to justify taking your money when you do complain. Just like it was report on the BBB website (https://www.bbb.org/us/mo/chesterfield/profile/training-program/mcafee-institute-0654-88652660/customer-reviews), the company seems to have a practice of robbing people of their money and certifications when they don’t like hearing anything negative. I emailed this company first before coming on the web. I misunderstood the refund policy, and after sensing some sarcasm in their responses, the email exchange ended with a threat to keep my money and take my certifications if I kept replying to the email. In short, McAfee’s email basically told me to shut up and go away.

At that point, I had to take things to the internet. The company found my posts. A few days later I got a letter notifying me that I was expelled and that they were keeping my money. It also demanded that I take down my posts about the company. What is even crazier is that in the footer of every page it told me ---- "This letter and its contents are considered privileges communications and cannot be shared or disseminated in any way”. OMG. THIS PLACE IS SO CONTROLLING. "Take your post down”, "If you reply back to this email it will be considered as hostile”, "You are in violation of our professionalism policy”. Very harsh language...repeatedly. Their efforts to suppress people by signing a "contract” to not complain is meant to try to hide the truth about how this company deals with people.

And get ready for it. Just like he did with the posts on BBB.org and Reddit.com (https://www.reddit.com/search/?q=mcafee%20institute), I know the owner will likely come out here with some kind of comment trying to justify this nonsense. And to that, I say this… NOTHING I SAID ROSE TO THE LEVEL WHICH ALLOWED YOU TO TAKE MY $2000 AND WHAT I STUDIED FOR. Nothing I wrote or said has anything to do with the certification I had already earned and paid for. Nor does it justify you keeping the money for the class I had just started. NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER MCAFEE INSTITUTE. If you want to come out here and say that I signed away my voice to take your classes, have at it. Since you expelled me and took my money, I am free to speak. I was always free to speak no matter how much you tried to intimidate me. But to be honest, your agreement about "maintaining professionalism” is too broad and subjective anyway. And what's interesting is that you are not even being professional yourself.

Customers say a lot of stuff you may not like. But as a business, you are expected to remain ethical and professional in your dealings with people. You are trying too hard to control people’s voices. The same language and tone you said I used, you turned around and used the same exact words to me. And far worse. And I have the email to prove that. The owner's replies on BBB.org supports that McAfee Institute has a pattern of being belligerent with their customers. You took my $2,000 plus the time I spent studying for the courses. I am certainly justified to complain. Refer to that "contract” all you want. No reputable educational firm requires people to agree not to complain.

I signed up for classes to improve myself, and I ended up with nothing and lost my hard-earned money.

I purhased the antivirus called mcAfee Total Protection for USD$39.99 for 5 devices on mcAfees website. On its its landing page you will find the mcAfee Total Protection cost USD$44.99 for 1 year subscription. Howver if you hit the "Learn more" button you will be directed to a page where 3 discounted prices of the same product are sold for 1 year subscription, they cost;

1. USD$49.99 for 10 devices

2. USD$39.99 for 5 devices

3. USD$34.99 for 1 device

I purchase the product online that cost USD$39.99 using my debit card thinking it was a good bargin. However after trying numerous times the product will not download on my PC. I tried the technical support but I was asked to download an app so that a technicain would access my computer to help me install the product which I refused. The pre install Tool will not work and customer servie request number they provide is usless. I have tried to get a refund but they do not have a chat window or email address to help with the refund only a phone number to call if you want a refund. The call will be very expensive for me because I live outside of the US

The cheap price is a clear indcation that this is a scam to cheat genuine clients. Both the landing page product price is USD$44.99 for mcAfee Total protection and the discounted price for 10 devices are the same for 1 year subscription. You will notice that there is a little difference of $10 and $5 in price between the 3 products. I believe scammers have somehow attached malware onto the "Learn more" button and are taking money from unsuspecting customers or this is one way mcAfee is scheming people of their money. Check this URL to confrim my findings https://www.mcafee.com/en-us/for-home.html

iI maintained in my request to mcafee that the transaction of $127.99 that was taken out of my bank account was not authorized by me and I was never contacted that any transaction would be forth coming in advance by mcafee for a subscription for mcafee protection plan for my personal home l computer since then I have not gotten any response by email concerning my request to immeditally cancel my subscription for the mcafee protection plan for my home computer and my request for a refund of $ 127.99

McAfee promotes a Military discount (https://militarymoneymanual.com/mcafee-military-discount-60-off/) featuring a 2 year subscription for only $39.99. As a qualified veteran, I tried to purchase this product but the check-out page states I will receive a 1 year subscription for $39.99.

Customer service rep #396938

(1) would offer only a 50% discount for 1 year

(2) refused to honor the advertised military discount

(3) refused to let me speak with his supervisor and

(4) said the 2 year subscription was not effective.

Does McAfee have any integrity? Will McAfee honor what they advertise? Or, does McAfee have disdain for the military and veterans?

I bought a computer a few years ago. It came equipped with the virus cyber protection MacAfee. However, I decided not to use McAfee for my computer protection. I have a different protection company and I like them. Also, I have personal reasons for not wanting to use McAfee. I’m old (older) and I remember when the internet was born. I remember when John McAfee created his computer protection service. I also remember he was the one who created the viruses that we needed protection from. I also remember when John McAfee committed a murder. It’s all speculation (on the news) but I remember a cracked-out McAfee who made a lot of money from scamming people, he eventually moved to Belize and then he murdered his neighbor. I respectfully decline doing business with McAfee.

A couple of years after I bought my computer, I got a charge for $99 from McAfee. That’s crazy! I called by bank and disputed the charge. I don’t know even know how McAfee got my credit card. I think they sneaked on my computer and stole it from another company I shop on-line from. I can’t think of anyway else they would have my card number. My awesome bank reversed the charges and sent my dispute to the investigation department. I got my money back. I had my credit card number changed. It was all good.

Then a couple of weeks later I got a letter from my bank stating they reversed the reverse. They stated they were provided with “compelling evidence” from McAfee and the charges are valid. My bank told me to call McAfee. I called McAfee and talked to a billing representative who said “yeah, I can see you didn’t make a purchase with McAfee and you don’t use the service on your computer.” But we already refunded your bank, we will not give you another refund. McAfee said call your bank, they already got the money back from us. Of course, my bank said no, not true, we got nothing from McAfee. I believe my bank. I got robbed. McAfee straight burglarized my financial information from purchases I made with other online shopping sites. I consider this blatantly criminal.

These scumbags automatically charge your credit card if you have purchased a subscription in the past. I was never notified by them that my subscription would automatically rebilled. I was billed almost $100 on a laptop I no longer use and I filed a chargeback on my credit card immediately so it isn't like I ever used there service following the first year Do yourself a favor and find another company.

I have been trying for over a week to get some type of help with a issue that have with a update (build update) all i get is my time wsted, excuses, and constantly hung up on by managers and supervisors as well there online chat support get disconnected on n help at all, apparently they dont honor there own policy/promise.

Total Satisfaction Promise

We are committed to your complete satisfaction. If you are unhappy with your McAfee Support Experience, please submit a case online to our Total Satisfaction Team and let us make things right. We will take ownership of your problem until it is resolved. That's the McAfee promise!!

on site click support at top than contact support than bottom right is that above promise, there tech masters are no better

seems they can careless at all about there customers we're just a disturbance to them

they are rather fascist in my opinion as they want an answer to what ever they want or ask ( without delay) but yet they will not answer even a simple question. they love to use the term "not cooperating" as an excuse to refuse to do anything, strange how were not cooperting when we expect or want help or an answer to a simple valid question which they refuse, but yet they demand we do what they want and how they want

i had a ron sit for almost 1 /2 hours in silence on a call last night and he did same night before a supervisor could careless both times i complained

dont expect any help at all from any supervisor or manager when you call that also includes there tier 3 people in texas where it appears any complaint made at corp office goes to them. they do exactly the same make excuses wont answer anything and hang up

just my opinion but this isnt how we the customers should be treated , strange how they ( supervisors and managers) say its not acceptable than next minute do the same. i would think that they would want to know about an issue that they put into an update but apparently they dont

perhaps when they start losing customers they may care.

Janet Taylor Gregory - My mother (Peggy J. Taylor) took out a life policy with this company (John Andy McAfee Insurance Agency - Hannibal, MO) and when she passed away (May 16, 2016) they denied the claim. Long story short, the agent who came to my Mom's house and wrote the policy knowingly answered the health questions incorrectly, I guess hoping she would live at least two years and would out of the contestable period. But she didn't so they denied the claim saying my Mother lied on the application. She did not lie. She told the agent she had had heart surgery and he answered the question about being treated for heart disease NO. I will be reporting this to the Department of Insurance. Also, the cause of her death was a brain bleed, stroke and aspiration pneumonia, which had nothing to do with her heart. But they denied the claim. I don't consider Old American Insurance a reputable company.

McAfee auto-renewed Virus protection at a cost of $97.41 without my knowledge and will not refund the money. On 10/31/16 apparently Mcafee billed my credit card $97.41 without my knowledge for computer virus protection. It would appear the email notifying me of this went into a spam box in my email. The customer service rep I spoke with said this happens often. My wife was going through our bank statements and discovered the charge yesterday (2/1/17) while researching a different issue. I called Mcafee customer service and they cancelled the auto-renew but said it was beyond 60 days so they would not refund the money. After further discussion with the customer service representative as I explained my displeasure, he advised he would have his supervisor further research a remedy and call me back within an hour. No one has bothered to call me back since. I was actually never aware I signed up for anything that was automatically renewing at almost $100 a year, and it is very convenient that the email the customer service said was sent ends up in a spam box regularly as stated by the representative. We simply want the money refunded

I bought a laptop with McAfee antivirus .

Computer is running slow .

At first, I thought that the case in windows 8.1. Reinstall system and McAfee installed again. There was the same problem.

Reinstall all again. Download Avast , everything works fine.

Mcafee can't be disabled even for the time. It is very inconvenient antivirus.

The following is in regards to McAfee/Intel LiveSafe Internet security software:

1. It stops working requiring frequent reinstalls. You do not know it is not working unless you have reson to open the software for a scan or something. I assume while it is not working you are not protected.

2. It claims to support all popular Web browsers. Its login/password security feature called SafeKey (as of when I purchased the software) is not supported by Firefox without making chnges to FireFox that are not recommended by Firefox/Mozilla. I made the changes anyway to make SafeKey work in Firefox. Safekey still does not login into many sites correctly.

3. SafeKey does not login correctly in some sites in the Internet Explorer browser either.

4. As of the New Year, 2016, SafeKey is being done away with. A new softwre TrueKey is being required instead. Safekey will no longer exist.

TrueKey does not support my main browser Firefox at all.

5. McAfee email Tech Support does not work. When you submit an email it goes to an error page, everyday, always.

6. McAfee chat Tech support takes a minumum of 20 min. to connect and then disconnects repeatdly making it impossible to use. I have not problems using chat from other on-line companies with my computer or Firefox.

7. McAfee has Virtual Technician software to download to correct problems with LiveSafe. When LiveSafe stops working Virtual Technician finds problems and says it corrects them but the LiveSafe program still fails to run and requires a reinstall.

8. When I downloaded a free security scanner called Malwarebytes from cnet.com and ran a scan it found issues LiveSafe had failed to stop. This is possibly when the software wasn't working and I wasn't aware of it, or maybe McAfee doesn't keep its security definitions up-to-date, I don't know.

9. On the page where you enter your credit car info. and make the purchase on McAfee's site they clearly state a 30-day money back guarantee and a SATISFACTION GUARANTEE. The later guarnatee has a clear logo.

10. I have had the software over 30-day (there is about 210 days left on my subscription) but I am very dissatisfied with it and want a refund based upon their Satisfction Guarantee.

11. They refused to give me a refund siting only the 30-day guarantee as if the Satisfction Guarantee was meaningless though they show it on their Website. Satisfaction guarantees are real and common. Sears has one.

12. I filed a complaint with the better Business Burearu of San Jose CA after which NcAfee offered (reluctantly) a full refund. In a follow-up email they reneged on this offer siting legal reasons. They will give me no refund though I have removed all their software from my computer
