It was a nightmare trying to work with a bunch of malignant, narcissistic architects. We were mislead and convinced that Max Strang would be able to design a symmetrical 8,000 square ft home and unfortunately could not come up with one design that showed what we wanted. Our first meeting with Max was via Skype, as he sat in his Colorado office, bragging about his designs. After that, we never heard from him again. We were thrown into a whirlwind of fresh out of school architects, afraid of their own shadow. Meeting after meeting, we were sitting around a bunch of pencil pushing amatuers pretending to know what they were doing, while Max Strang hid in the Colorado Woods.
We were dragged along for 6 months, being shown the same designs that looked like a pile of lego blocks pieced together with a haphazard floor plan,disorganized room connections, and a metal staircase, which would never work for a family with young children.
The designs were unsystematic. They were lacking skill, competence & ingenuity. Everything was a "rinse and repeat" version of previous designs done for other clients. Time and time again, we kept on revising and having to redirect them back to our original plan, only to be ignored. Jason Adams, who runs the firm for the missing Max, had skills of a used car sales man, "up selling" us by redesigning our plans to a 15,000 square ft home instead of 8,000, which increased our cost by double and in turn would increase his own profit off of the percentage.
It became very clear to us that it was never their intention to design a home that we wanted, they simply just wanted to design a home for their own interests with our money.
After 6 months of being blindsided we finally fired them and walked away losing our initial deposit of 20k. They didn't even have the decency to call us ,instead Jason attacked and berated us in numerous emails blaming us for their bad designs.
In the end, we learned a great lesson . Thankfully we hired a new award winning Architect who is highly respected all around the country. Instead of suing Max Strang, we decided its best to just to tell others the truth in hopes that they do not continue to do bad business with good people.
