On November 13, 2018, I reported myself as a victim of a romance scam that involved a person claiming to be "Janice Santana" of the United States Marine Corp.

The main picture that "Janice Santana" used was a stolen photo from Shake Shack in Okinawa, which showed the real person Kristina Ann Santana, now Kristina Martinez, having won a contest in November 2016

There was no previous indication that the message was fake or the email had been scrubbed as the address [email protected] was written like so.

Match's inability led me to believe a lie that cost me $75000 and $100000. I had no way of trying to get out because as a Catholic and Christina, I often look for the good in people, and never having had a girlfiend, I wanted to be grateful and not be so choosy.

I signed up with Match.com and after a few months, i met someone on another dating site and went to the various sites that I had registerd with to cancel the service by checking a box asking if I wanted an automatic renewal.

After not using the service, I found a $88 Match.com withdraw from my checking account.

When i called to get the charged reversed, I was told that I never cancelled and that they would change my subscrpiton to a one monh renewal, which is the highest rate and refund the difference of $26.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and the agent hung up on me.

Match.com advertises nationwide on TV and are a true scam that needs to be publicly exposed. They refuse refunds even after proving to them that you are being targeted by senior scammers and you are not getting responses from the age bracket indicated and the location limit specified. They get nasty about letting you know that you will not be getting any kind of refund and that you need to use additional features to better stipulate your requirements.

I bought the Match. com three month minimum. Don't be fooled. What you may pay for those three months is worthless.

Here's their ploy:

You fill in an extensive profile. The profile is meaniingless. I am a 69 year old white male seekingt the same. The matches they sent me had nothiing to do with my profile and included women of various races and no small number of very young women.

When I did find one or two women that were a match I attempted to send a "meeting" letter. When you try to send it you get a series of "pop-ups" telling you to buy an upgrade.

After several such attempts I called Match.for a refund. I noted that I was certainily willingto pay for the first month but that I would lke a refund for the remaining two. The agent was clearly trained to handle such calls. Clearly,, I was not alone with such a request.

I have heard since that people end up spending quite a considerable amount, even to 1,000. to find someone on Match.

A sample of a proposed match.

I bought 1 month, turned off automatic renewal feature, following their instructions. They sent through a charge for an additional month, when I caught it, I immediately contacted them asking them to stop the charge. I also sent an email to their Customer Support. They have refused to reverse the charge, flat out told me they would not be responding to me anymore. Do no give these people your credit card.

I signed up for this service and prepaid three months of service (approximately $77). Today, after only three weeks into this I received an e-mail with no explanation that my profile was blocked. Next, I called their customer service and got the run-a-round from a representative who could not even get my correct e-mail after spelling it for her five times. I'm an educated and intelligent person. Next, I called back and got another agent who would not talk with me and said I can only correspond by email!

I have high standards and wrote my profile to attract "hot looking" women. Yes I was contacted by two of them - one who almost had me robbed on a date (they call this "trick and roll"). Next, another woman who claimed she was former ballerina and has a job as a costome desinger for "showgirls" contacted me. She turned out to be a "Call girl" with no work history (I did a background check on her). Next, I received several hate mails from feminists and women who are "man haters" let alone they used all types of "four letter" words in their profiles and emails to me which match approved! At no time did I ever resort to this or send any such e-mail Nevertheless, the blocked and removed my profile today.

Stay CLEAR of MATCH. They are total scam artists and will take your money using their terms of service as a defense if they don't like you. They also perpetuate protitution because any "hot" woman receives about 1,000 e-mails a week from men on this site. This is how they get their "John's"and perpetuate their business.

The only "legitimate" profiles are from ugly or homely women or women that want you to bail them out from their economic problems.

I had started a 3 month subscription with match.com after spending a couple of days as a free member. They induced me into buying their premium service by sending fake interests and once I paid to engage, my account was locked and further banned without being provided a reason. They sent me their terms of use link which went through in detail and I have not violated any terms I can think of.

This is a total scam and should be looked into in detail

Alright, So I was stupid and signed up for a dating service. Stupid, stupid, stupid! At 75 years of age, I sometimes don't understand everything on a website. I am not going to go back and look at the site, as I might end up with another huge charge.

I am on a fixed income and every dollar is accounted for. This is going to put me in a financial bind for quite sometime. Are they concerned, interseted, or even open to discussion in the matter? NOT AT ALL!

Anyway, my next step is the Better Business Bureau.

Service was terminated in May. They claim auto-renewal was stilled turn on no matter if the service was cancelled. Service was never used or logged into after May. New bill appeared and they refuse to refund any of it.

Furthermore, MATCH.COM was FULL of prostitutes looking for clients. Endless pictures with phone numbers on them of prostitutes and they will not clean up their system. DO NOT USE MATCH.COM

Signed up for the Match.com Guarantee. If you can't find anyone in six months they will give you an additional six months free with a paid six month subscription. You fill out your profile. I filled it out but never could make it out past 70%. I filled everything out. First month past I noticed that it said my profile was hidden. It never was I contacted customer service. No reply back. I'm busy so month two came same thing it was saying it was hidden. Contact customer and again no reply. I wait and I contact them again threatening to file a report.Magically they contact me on the third try. The excuse for the red mark on hidden profile . First response was they said I didn't meet all the requirements to receive the six month Guarentee. I escalated. Second was response was I didn't fill out all of my profile and that it was hidden automatically. Ironically I was getting views from members but it was automatically hidden. Match also claimed to look and read profiles and view pictures. This place is littered with fake pix of women that say on the pix that they are not a member and text phone number provided. They also claim by buying top spot you will get three more times the responses. Done it twice ($40). According to match I was viewed from 300 to 500 depending on the time you went. I used the 10 top spots for $20. All those views for maybe one or no views. Also if you are supposedly hidden how come I can see you looking at my profile but when I click on profile it's magically hidden. If you are hidden I shouldn't be able to see you but I can still see you viewed me. Im not a bad looking man so I know I should garner more interest in being top spot. I think it's just a number randomly generated to sucker you into thinking that many people saw you. I'm beginning to think you are better off throwing your money in the toilet instead of just giving it to match. This company is a major ripoff. Don't give them any money. They don't deserve it. They will rip you off. You won't get better service, better type of people than you will going to a free dating site. Buyer beware. Match is a rip off. Stay away.

Save your money. I have been a Member for months and just discovered that non-members cannot see and respond to your messages. Even worse, there is no way to tell who is a non-Member. Speaking with their customer service they try and avoid the question of why you cannot tell who is a member or not. They hem and haw and talk about who matches and if you want your email read but when forced to they admit that nobody can tell who a non-member is. the fake profiles and email does not really bother me but this is completely deceptive. why present everybody to you as a member if only to rip you off. a CLASSIC rip off. Attention any lawyers willing to class action these a**holes?

also even though it is a phone pick on their menu to ask for a refund. they do NOT ever give refunds per their terms. Get with your cc company and do a chargeback on these jerks.

I wanted to try this online dating web site.

As soon as I set up my account , this web site started sending all the intresets and

all and asking to buy the subscription.

Now what really happens , the website never tells you that even though you sign up with their

paid subscription, as a paid member you will not be able to

1.See the contact information of the other member who does not have a paid subscription.

2. Even though you can send an email to the free member but the free member can not reply

till they pay for the services.

So basically, its a one way street pretty much.

3. Now , if you want to facilitate the other member to respond to you ,

You have to pay exactly a full term fee equivalent to your full term of the

membership and there are no breaks in that.

For example : Mine is a 6 month subscription, sp I have to pay the same amount to

get an add on feature for free member to reply to me .

Sadly , there is no disclosure about this in any email or advertisements.

Once , they get the money , there customer service is horrible to the core.

I told the company that this is a rip off and you can deduct once month of my subscription and

give me the rest. Even though I have not used the website for more than 24 hours.

Please help me with these issue and help me to get the refund from this fradulent website.

Thanks in advance.

I have been a member of Match.com for a couple years and in that time I have had little to know real interest from matches even after getting help from Match.com Profile Pro. I have regularly reported suspected fake profiles which amount to almost half of the matches received. Of the hundreds of matches made, maybe 10% will look at your profile and less than 1% will actually respond to your email or contact you.

After a year I though maybe I needed help with wording my profile so I enrolled in Profile Pro for $30 and what I received was the most lame, generic and useless profile I have ever seen. I used it anyway for a couple months and it was absolutely useless and match.com refused to acknowledge.

I enrolled once for 6 months and was supposed to received 6 months free if I wasn't successful and nothing happened.

The Daily Matches in the beginning were pretty matches however lately they have been pathetic, showing me smokers when that is a big "No" for me etc. I have no idea what algorithm they use!

Match.com utilizes bots and fake profiles baiting people online to keep using their services. Don't believe me? Create an account and wait for someone to wink at you and then turn their profile off immediately. I have a mailbox full of these btw). To say the least this kind of behavior is absolutely unethical. It is hard enough to find someone compatible as it is. In addition, even if you have turned off automatic billing they may unknowingly to you, turn it back on again. Do your research and you will also find that match.com has bought out many other dating websites that behave in the same exact manner. Dont waste your money on this company or its affiliates.

Well, just type into your browser "match.com complaints" and that should educate eveyone enough. I think this is the 1st time encounted a business where all numbers called never recieved a pickup / answer. Called multiple times / numbers to no avail. Called Customer Service, Billing, Tech Support, etc. and never once got through and received same recorded message every time. I had cancelled this service shortly after, like right after joining as rarely, if even used the the service. I have since filed a fraud claim with my bank. They were aware of the name match.com and offered to expedite the paperwork. I'm thankfull that my bank is aware of this company as sounds like they have had lots of complaints and are quick to resolve issues.

I have found the match.com website to be absolutely and completely fraudulent. They host profiles that do not have real people behind them and are engaging in fraud, in my view. After a couple of months of working through people in the system and making contact with some people, I found that the profiles do not have the people behind them that are being advertised. It seems that large groups of profiles are being managed by a single individual and it shows in some of the things people write back from different accounts.

Long story short, the site is a complete failure and scam. So I went to cancel my account and found they decided to force a second login (I was already logged in) to access the managed account or cancel account button..but when you input your password and do the captcha, nothing happens. Normally, this is when the continue button illuminates, but they blocked it. This prevents the ability to access or manage my subscription, which will enable them to automatically renew it according to their policy. So the company is engaging in fraud to force people to go to their bank to block and reverse the charges.

And when you email them about it, no response. Nothing. They are truly vile and dishonest. Don't waste your time with this site. I am shocked at how they have changed over the years. Now it is nothing more than another catfishing cesspool of the scamsters in the world. A true disappointment.

I have had my info removed in seconds from sites like whitepages.com etc, because of privacy laws in California. But what match.com did right after I signed up was blocking access and inability to remove my information with my photos because I did not succumb to their tricks to pay. What a while action and grossly illegal too.

This company is a sham!' I have several friends my age group that joined at the same time believing that the profiles on the site were real. Most are fake and made up by the company. They don't respond to any customer service issues. The profiles as it turns out are manufactured from other dating sites and match them almost word for word.

When we cross checked these profiles we ran into the same person with the same identity and wrote to them in another site. Low and behold they didn't even know they were on Match.com! Its a scam operation much like the overseas mail order brides sites. Take your money and your talking to thin air on the profiles... Total old time online scam!!!

I have been on Match for about two months (I purchased a premium membership). There are many reasons why I don’t recommend Match for those considering a dating site. I am looking for a woman that is 48+ years. Some of my observations may not apply to those searching for younger members. Here are my comments: · I believe that Match is significantly exaggerating the # of female members that fit in my preferred age group. I say this because the same members keep showing up in my searches and in Match’s daily recommendations, even though such members don’t meet my ‘must-have’ preferences (distance, ethnicity, smoking, kids, etc.) and other filters.

It seems that Match wants to show that it has a larger number of matching members than it has, so Match disregards my filter preferences, and repeatedly includes the same unacceptable members in multiple searches. As a result, my searches are inefficient, time-consuming, and frustrating. · Match has a ‘Discovery’ search feature that casts a ‘wider net’ and ignores all of my filter preferences. Match includes some members in this Discovery search because they ‘liked’ me, not because I would likely find them to be a match. It is not unusual for 80%+ of those members to be outside of my must-have preferences (e.g., ethnicity or distance).

I have to click through dozens and dozens of members before I find a member that fits my preference criteria (even if I otherwise find them unacceptable)—again, this issue results in my discovery searches and Match’s daily recommendations being time-consuming and frustrating. Match does not explain that this is how they set-up ‘discovery’ searches and daily recommendations. I had to find this out via multiple email exchanges with Match support. As a result, these two features are useless. · As part of completing my profile, Match prompts me to list my ‘must-have’ and other preferences, that supposedly are including in my search filters. As it turns out, this is not how these preference filters work.

Match support finally explained that I have to complete a separate set of identical search filters for my ‘must-haves’ and other preferences. Match does not indicate that there are two separate locations on the site where I have to list my preferences. It was not until I realized that Match was not filtering out non-desirable members, that I stumbled across the second set of filters. Again this resulted inefficient, time-consuming, and frustrating searches. · Match support told me that its algorithm used for determining the members included in my searches (e.g., mutual matches) takes into account my ‘must-have’ filters (e.g., ethnicity). I don’t believe that to be true. There are too many members in my searches who do not fit my preferences.

· Here is a good one. When I establish my preferences, Match shows a ‘side-bar’ of members that likely fit one particular preference (but not necessarily all of my preferences). Match support told me that I have to actively reject those suggested members while I am creating my preferences—otherwise they are automatically included in my searches. I did not know of this stupid feature until I contacted support. So, because I did not initially reject these unacceptable and unmatched members they will keep showing up in my searches. · Match has a ‘like’ feature, I can ‘like’ a member and they can 'like' me. I noticed that many members are listed on the ‘I liked’ page that even though I did not check off that I liked them. Match does not explain this, but these members are listed as “I like”, because I did not reject them back when I was setting up my preferences.

There is no way to remove any of these members from the ‘I like’ list, other than by individually selecting each one of them and ‘blocking’ them from my searches (which case, I have to select a reason for blocking them, and none of the options Match offers are applicable). I am probably forgetting other issues with Match, but the bottom line is that my experience has been time-consuming, inefficient, and frustrating. Match does not explain many of these issues until I contact customer support. I don’t want to spend more than an average of 10-15 minutes every few days on Match—however, Match features are so inefficient that there is no way to conduct meaningful searches unless I spend much more time on the site.

Automated Billing nine months after providing the last service, >US$200.00 debited PayPal before I noticed. On complaint, they agreed to refund the 2020 charges, but not the 2019 overcharges.

I had not accessed any of the Match Recommendations for most of last year. They were discontinued on September 14, 2019. I assumed that terminated our relationship.

I don't pay much attention to my PayPal account, unless problems arise, so only noticed the automated payments to Match.com on May 27, 2020.

I contacted Match, spent a half hour or so with an agent, ('JC'), who reversed the latest charge, (per email advice from Paypal), had me on hold for a half hour, and finally told me to expect a call from a higher authority.

Call received from 'Hans', who promptly reversed another, second, US$80.97 payment, but refused to refund any of the 2019 overpayments! (I've not audited my records, but think I can prove at least two or three quarters devoid of correspondance between me and any of Match's offerings, (Not counting the prostitutes, assorted predators.)

In summary, if there is a Class Action Suit or other Consumer Fraud Action happening, please can I be your Poster Boy?

These parasites, through Pattern & Practice, demonstrate a predatory nature, have pocketed unknown millions, fraudently; deserving of severe criminal and civil tort punishment from some enterprising lawyer and/or prosecutor.

Thanks for any actions you might care to take!

I have been on other dating sites where there were no problems. I tried Match.com for Feb., 2020 and received almost no matches (other sites offered MANY matches) . I cancelled my subscription long before it was due and they still charged me for another month. I called and told them I had the papers I copied saying the subscription was cancelled. I called the company and was told I had to click yet another page to complete the cancellation

and they did not get that page. Theu refused to refund over $42 for the worst dating site I've ever seen.

  • Apr 27, 2019

I was a Match.com member and I completed my guarantee period which entitled me to free six month extension of my membership. Match.com charged my card anyway. I disputed the charge with my bamk and Match.com took action!

They closed my account, blocked me and banned me forever. They refunded the charge, but I lost my free six month service extension. All I wanted to do was prevent Match.com from illegally stealing my money.

The facts speak for themselves. There aren't enough adjectives to describe how incompetent and deceitful they are!

  • May 29, 2018

I opened an account in 9/2017 and closed the account right after. I received a charge to $42 5 months later. I called and reached their customer service phone room where I was told I never cancaled the account. I explanied any company could make this claim and continue to rip off its clients. I called a second time asking that the charges be reversed and was refused. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told it was company (policy) to not let anyone speak to a supervisor (which I have on recording). I suggest anyhone with this same issue file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ASAP and let's put an end to this illegal theft. There is no charge and the government's attorneys are free to the consumer. It is time large companeis realise that are sick and tired of the crap! We are not going to be robbed of our hard earned money then told, "Too bad!" I hope they get one of the largest government fine in history and someone goes to jail for usitng a business to steal money which goes toward their bonusess making this an accessory to a crime.

See Working Report Title

*Match has gone from a reputable organization initially to one that consistently rips off their members. Their site has been hacked multiple times. Recently I was sent a bill for 6 months on an account that I cancelled a year ago. As expected they couldn't find those records and didn't notify me that my account had been hacked. Yet they still forced me to pay them. If you refuse your credit card company will damage your credit rating ! I would have contacted my attorney but the dollar amounts were too small to make it worthwhile. They only care about getting you on their AUTOMATIC renewal because that's how they make money...by ripping people off ! In recent years the site has been used increasingly by prostitutes to solicit money and they seem to do nothing to prevent this ! SCAM company...Prostitutes !...failure to notify clients they have been hacked. I fully expect Facebook with their new dating service will put them out of business. Their stock dropped 25% the first day of that announcement and hopefully will continue to fall to their inevitable bankruptcy. They have become a truly horrible company. Avoid them like the plague. Stole my money. Lied about records. Did not notify me that my account had been hacked*

AS I said above....I had a man on match.com after 30 days ask me for $5,000. Of course I did not send it, he became angry when I had a police offer answer my phone when he called me ... very funny actually. Reported him to Match.com and they closed his account. When the subject of money came up between myself and blue eyes, told him what I did to the other guy he immediately discontinued conversation. Must have scared him! I knew immediately when he mentioned money either he recogonized me, perhaps the same man..... The first man had a German accent and his cell phone was based out of South Carolina. I never got this guys number.

It just makes me mad because some lonely woman will fall for this ... sad.

Match.com is crooked. Plain and simple.

You WILL pay an auto-renewal. They WILL NOT refund it.

So join monthly, only. The "savings" for pre-paying for a year is no savings becuause you wil pay for a renewal.

They will then only repeat their robotic response. They will not hand you up to a supervisor. You WILL pay the renewal.

It's just plain crooked.

Almost every man I had contact with from match.com ended up being somebody elsecomma I eat catfish. Many people on the site that their profile was hacked. I contacted men who ended up contacting me back, then would have been chewing say their account got hacked and it really wasn't them who contacted me. I called out one person who I found out was catfishing me and he became abusive and threatening. I found out he lived in a different state than he said. When I reported all of this to match.com, they left him on the site. They don't enforce their rules. They're all about the money. They don't care whether or not people really find relationships. They are a scam. They are supposed to approve your profile and yet I came across a man's profile who was calling women whores and talking about how men send d**k pics out on their profile and yet match approve that profile. Match.com is ridiculous and you should run the other

I met this man on match.com. he sent additional emails with pictures attached claimng he lived in novi, mi. suddently, he said he was travelling to turkey and agreed to send text pics of him in turkey. He agreed to do so, then put me off on doing it. He comes across as very sweet and charming and gets serious very quickly. However, whenever you question something, he will immediately turn it on you and say you have low self esteem. When I pushed the issue of the text pic since I doubed he was who he said he was (pictures on match, story, locattion, etc.), he became enraged. I called him out on being a scam artist and he told me I deserved to be abused and violated. He said other abusive things. When I filed a complaint with match.com, his address mysteriously changed from novi, mi to arlington, va. SCAM ARTIST/CATFISHER!!

I communicated with this man via the match.com website match.com supposedly has very strict rules about appropriate behavior. When I found out this man was not who he said he was, he became extremely abusive to me and said her riffic things to me I reported him to match.com and they did nothing about it. He is still on the site

My profile was hacked. While my credit card was refunded they basically didnt call to offer an explanation or offer to give me a free month using a new profile. They told me I would need a court order to find out anything. That is absolutely ridiculous . I would think they would contact me an offer an apology and to set up a new profile and not pay for at least one month

If you were ripped off by Match.com and want to join a class action law suit - you need to read this. I'm in the dating industry, and in the past I have referred thousands of customers to Match.com which I now regret. I have been getting inundated with complaints ranging from unauthorized renewals, dating scams, fake profiles and even unauthorized use of the credit cards you use to register.

If you have been a victim, please email me at " [email protected] " so I can put you on the list. I have already received complaints from a number of angry victims. As soon as we get enough registrants, our attorney will contact you and include you in the complaint so you can get satisfaction, but more importantly your money back.

This site is a rip off. First don't ever sign up for it as they will charge you for it when you are not looking and even if you call them the day of the charge they will not refund the money.

I got charged $227.88 for last year and never noticed it (so that is gone) and again this year $227.88. When I called to cancil this years charge all they would agree to was to charge me and then change my membership to a monthly membership so they could keep charging me.

I notified them of the California state law requiring them to give me a refund; Section 2102 of the California Financial Code. And they said that they did not care about US laws.

OH I forgot to mention that they are based on India.

All I could do was get paypal to block any further trasations.

Don't get ripped of by this crocks.

I am a dating coach/blogger/author very well known in the industry, and I have in the past referred literally thousands of my readers and customers to Match. I've been hearing several complaints from followers swearing they did not want to renew and in fact marked their profile not to renew, yet they were still charged. This appears to be an ongoing and growing practice.

When they complained to Match - they were unable to get a refund, and if they complained enough, sometimes they were offered a 50% rebate if they were lucky. In doing my research, I've discovered that we are not alone. There have been literally thousands of complaints for this issue among other Match.com scams. I am in the process of assembling enough pissed off customers to file a class action law suit against them.

If you feel you've been taken advantage of by Match.com, please email me at [email protected], with the subject: Ripped off by Match, and you will be added to the list and contacted when ready. I'm sure you'll be hearing more.

I am in the process of going on several other internet forums, podcasts, blogs to spread the word. A billion dollar company like Match should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of their customers. Write me now at [email protected], with the subject: "Ripped off by Match" sharing with me how you've been victimized so you can get your money returned when we win this class action lawsuit.

Beware of their deceptive practices with Match.com!!!

Match.com renewed my membership after cancelling!!!!

After cancelling days in advance of my renewal date, Match.com renew my membership anyway. They will ask you for a cancellation number that they consumer will never get upon cancellation. Once you mention to Match.com that you never received one, they will tell you that there is nothing that they can do about getting you back your money.

If the company is this desparate for business, then they must be uncutting services in other areas of the website.

Beware: go in with eyes wide open if you sign up. If you do sign up and with to cancel, Contact someone directly; get their name and contact info; and some kind of cancellation confirmation, if you are lucky enough to get one!!

The Matchcom system is a big rip-off and scam. I just passed that 6 month date last week meeting all of the 6 month Guarantee criteria. The criteria is sending out 5 emails a month. However, I sent out about 50 emails a month and for each month and thus the system said I was doing good. However, at the end of the 6th month all of a sudden I did not qualify for some made up new reasons I never heard of and could barely understand the customer service representative when they tried to explain their false statements. Rather than get for free, I received a charge on my credit card of $143.97 for another six months. It was becoming a full time job talking to different customer service people who all had the same story of deception and putting me on hold for at least an hour or more each time I called. They read there "Script", handed down from upper management and probably have to comply or they get fired. As of August 2016, they have a new "refund system". When you try to use the new refund system, all of a sudden their big bully customer service rep gets on the phone and says "you are not entitled to a refund" due to some administrative mistake "you" made by not filling out some silly criteria and/or by not checking the vague box in the account settings. They won't admit they are wrong about anything. Don't bother fighting their scam like I did with 3 hours on the phone getting nowhere except in deeper confusion with their games. If you paid with a credit card, just call your credit company and dispute it, and have them not make payment to Matchcom. A good credit card company will usually be on your side.

THIS IS A SUPER SCAM! Boycott, and if affected by this scam, start or join a class action suit(s).

On January 7, 2016, my three-month subscription with Match.com ended. I canceled a few days prior by selecting the cancel option on their accounts page as always. On that day I also hid my account and took down all my pictures and descriptions. (I did the latter because Match continues to show canceled profiles to current members, and I did not want that.) I have had several subscriptions with Match in the past and have never had a problem canceling my subscription this way before.

On August 7, 2016 I noticed a charge of $59.97 from Match on my bank statement from July. I called only to find out it was my THIRD renewal they had billed me for, making a total of $179.91. When I called, they said I had never canceled in January and wanted an email with the confirmation to prove it. Checking the "Cancel my Membership" option alone has always canceled my memberships before. This is how I was told to cancel from a customer service rep when I wanted to make sure I was cancelling my first subscription correctly back in 2011. It worked then, and it worked with all of several other subscriptions until this one.

On August 8, 2016 I called and spoke with several representatives at Match, a manager and a rep from the Resolutions Department. They all said the same thing: I had not canceled the right way and without the cancellation confirmation number from the email they sent me they could not do anything about it. I do not remember receiving this email. If I did I am sure I trashed it thinking it was the usual, "Sorry to see you go," not thinking I would need it because they were going to say I never canceled. Again, I never had a problem with Match cancellations before. They even tried to imply I might have "thought" I was canceling when I hid my profile. Unbelieveable.

I have unwillingly paid $179.91 for nine months of service I have not used or did not want to buy. My "subscription," with no pictures or descriptions, is still active as I type this. My last login on their record was January 7, 2016. Hopefully the cancellation I have requested this time will go through in October!

I understand it is my responsibility to look at my bank charges more thoroughly. Had I done that they would have only refused to refund the first renewal amount of $59.97. Regardless, Match is a company that decpetively renewed my membership after I canceled it and refuses to refund money for a service I never used, never wanted, and never knew I was originally billed for.

It is only a matter of time before someone files a class action lawsuit against this sleazy, dishonest company.

I signed up for a 6 month subscription because like most people, I wanted to try and find someone special. I was a bit of a pessimist when it comes to online dating but I went ahead and signed up. My geographical area is not the best so matches were not great but there were a few people I was interested in at first. It seems like a lot of girls in my area sign up and then never use their accounts past the trial period. This isn't match.com's fault but it makes my decision of signing up for a subscription a bad decision. I was more interested in signing up for the 6 month package because it included the 6 month guarantee.

Throughout my 6 month subscription, most of my matches hadn't been on the website in more than 3 weeks. How can I contact someone that isn't using their services anymore? Other times I contacted people that I was interested in with mixed results. My area does not have matches that work well for me because I am not from Alabama. My interests are very different than most girls....not all. Anytime I was interested, I did contact them but I'm not going to contact a girl just so that I can meet my "quota" for my 6 month guarantee as that would make me a horrible person......not really sure what Match wanted me to do there. The entire 6 months I was constantly harassed by women that were clearly spammers and were probably actually men. I had more spammers contact me than real legitimate users.

Here are some examples:

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

I altered one letter in each example just in case one of them was not a spammer but as you can see, clearly spammers. This is a SMALL fraction of those that I have received. Being someone that works in IT, I can assure you there are ways to stop this kind of spamming, Match doesn't care because it boosts the number of "eligible women" there are to lure in single guys. They told me I could report these users but there were too many and IT’S NOT MY JOB. Match could easily tell the ip's of those that are creating these accounts and verify it against that they live somewhere near where they are signing up. The spammers also change their locations constantly which should be an easy red flag and they'll hide their accounts so that you can't report them. I really don't believe that Match cares but that's just my opinion.

I called today because I just noticed they had auto-renewed my account. I am pretty sure that I had stopped the auto-renewal when I set my account but even if I hadn't, they should be gracious enough to refund my account. I hadn't received an Auto-renewal email and if I had, I would have checked again. Match refused to refund my auto-renewed subscription even if it had just been a few days. Talking with them made me realize what kind of company they really were and I would never recommend them. If you are a good company, you don't need to look up the fine print and argue with a customer. A good company would refund someone's money but they are banking on the fact that some people might forget to turn off the auto-renewal feature.

I had to call my credit card company today and get them to process a charge back. I was warned by Match.com that they would ban me from ever using their services again.......yeah....like I really would want to......

I don't really know what to suggest to people since Match or their parent company owns a lot of the dating websites. I guess go back to the old fashioned way? Just don't give your hard-earned money to this deceitful company.

****All of the statements above are my personal OPINION. I believe them to be factually correct but they are still just an opinion.*****

  • Jul 9, 2016

I was searching Match, com to see if there were any "new" profiles. When I did this the subscription page came up and then it instantly went to "congratulations! you have reactivated your membership". There was no credit card info and I did not give my consent or authorization. They charged my credit card for $119.94 for a six-month bundle.

I called Match's toll free number 6 times. The call centers must be over in India or the Middle East as everyone I spoke to had an accent and was impossible to understand. I was hung up on, and put on hold indefinitely for 4 out of the 6 calls I made. I was told each time I was ineligible for a refund.

Each time they asked me for my email, my phone number, my date of birth, and my zip code. When I told them I would subscribe for one month, they continued to tell me I was "ineligible" for a refund of any kind.

I have been a member of MATCH on and off for over 20 years. Match.com is a complete rip-off and I would strongly suggest you avoid this dating site at all costs. They are not customer service oriented, they are dishonest and by reviewing this site, I see I'm not the only one who got ripped off!

I took out a 6 month subscription to Match . Com and was blocked from accessing the site with the explanation "we feel it is best for the match community ". I only said hello to a few profiles of local women. I subscribed for a 3 month subscription with a different email and user name and spent 75 dollars for this subscription and only viewed a few profiles. Again I am blocked. I only used the site based on experience of meeting some nice people in the past. This is a huge Subscriptioner Beware. I feel they have out right ripped me off. A bunch of thieves. Match.com is letting your account get hacked into..then canceling your membership. They then blame you for unwanted behavior and do not refund your money. They then say they can't share what the incident was reported for unwanted behavior. A page straight out of the 1950's known as McCarthyisum. Match would rather canecl your membership and lie about wanton behavior, then go after the hackers. STAY AWAY FROM MATCH.COM
