Malloy Hyundai Reviews

  • Jan 3, 2017

To Whom It May Concern, My name is Rafael E G and on 29 December I visited Malloy Hyundai in Woodbridge Virginia to check on the Santa Fe Ultimate vehicle. On that day, I was greeting by Sales Consultant Jason Clark whom kindly took the time to go over the vehicle and assist in a test drive. Before leaving on Jason introduce me to his Sales Manager Rinaldo Campana, and after customary exchange of pleasantries I left the dealership. After taking basic information, I intended to return with my wife so that she could test drive it as well. Flash forward to yesterday 31 December 2016. My family and my intent was to purchase a vehicle on this day to ensure we benefited from end of year offers/discounts. I arrived at the dealership around noon, Jason had some clients whom he was taking care of so I decided to complete some last-minute purchases for our family's New Year gathering. I returned at 3:15 PM.

Jason immediately greeted me and proceeded to bring the vehicle of interest. As he was also taking care of a young couple whom has recently returned as well he introduced me to another Sales Consultant whom had just recently began to work at Malloy. Although, the dealer did not have the car with the specific needs we were looking for Jason indicated he could get one in. T

he time was now @ 4:20 PM, so I asked Jason to appraise my trade in and to start the sales process as I needed to be at my family's new year festivities NLT 8:30 PM. After my car was appraised and after some back and forth on price negotiations the offer was @$32K which was over my target figure, in addition while at the dealership I received an email which indicated an acceptance offer from a Nissan dealership in Fredericksburg, VA. So, I told Jason and Rinaldo that I had received a better offer elsewhere and that unless the numbers would be at $29,279 I would not waste their time (and mine) and leave to drive south and still meet my family obligations. I asked to get my keys back. The time was 5:05 PM.

As I waited for my keys, I could hear Rinaldo speaking to someone else about the fact I was leaving without buying a car at this dealership. Jason and a Middle Eastern man approached me. The man indicated why I was leaving, I told him about my Nissan deal. He then proceeded to do a sales pitch as to why Hyundai were better than Nissan, to include Nissan's CVT (transmission) issues. I indicated that I was currently driving a Nissan CVT car and had no issues, I asked again for my keys as I needed to leave. This man then took the paperwork from Jason looked it over and said that my price out the door would be $28,500. He said this figure twice, this was heard by Jason and the other Sales Consultant quite clearly. This man then asked me to follow him outside to point out the fact they barely had any Santa Fe's in stock which compared to a Nissan dealership their car was superior. I told him, I would accept the $28,500 offer. As we walked back to the dealership, this man asked me where I was from (although I thought the question was irrelevant to the conversation I responded) Puerto Rico, he then proceeded to tell me a son of his attempted to attend medical school there but was not accepted due to his inability to properly write (again strange) and that he was now attending school in VA. Jason then proceeded to seek the vehicle which I agreed to purchase at $28,500. He told me the one they could find which met my requirements was white and black interiors. I asked to look at a picture or another white black combination vehicle, and he went out to bring one to show. In the meanwhile, I could clearly hear Rinaldo complaining with the Middle Eastern man about something about my deal walked out to see the car Jason brought in. Time was now past 6 PM. Since I already had a loan secured thru my financial institution I assumed the deal could be done rather quickly.

At about 715 PM Rinaldo came in asking me that I would need a copy of a DD Form 214 indicating I am a veteran. His exact words were we need this document to proceed, I then told him that I happen to have a picture of the document with me and he was surprised I did, he then asked me for copy of my insurance card. After he left I asked Jasion if the vehicle I was purchasing had arrived he said I believe and rushed off. Interesting enough every time I attempted to speak to him he was avoiding me. The time now, was 8:30 PM, Rinaldo comes rushing towards me telling me they could not sell me the car for $28,500 and I replied impossible. He claimed he was not aware of the $28,500 offer. To say I was totally amazed at what this man was telling me is an understatement. Rinaldo told me the best they could do was $31 and some change. I told him no, the offer was $28,500 and that I had been waiting for hours to be told this at the last minute. I was furious now, I asked to speak with the Middle Eastern man, Rinaldo said he would be coming down. Another 20-25 minutes passed and I was looking for this man, I walked outside and throughout the building, I realized I was the last customer in the building all the sales personnel were starting to leave and the answer was right in front of me. Finally, the man appeared and I asked why he was not honoring the offer, he proceeded to talk about something else. I then told him there were other witnesses of the offer to which Jason Clark admitted to it. This young man has integrity.

Finally, after some back and forward Adam Mendoza appears telling me to leave, in fact telling me if I did not want their offer to leave. Adam also said that he did not know who I was (a lie) and that I should leave after he said that he walked behind the counter with Rinaldo. In my mind, I was like OK you do not know me, so I walked around the counter and extended my hand to introduce myself. I then about to tell them about the offer and was abruptly interrupted by Rinaldo who decided to tell his story. He said he was standing there next to the Middle Easter man and I (not true) and that the entire issue was because a trade in acceptance mistake. I then told them professionals do not make mistakes, I was then asked to be quiet. Adam sat down and began to plug numbers. then proceeded to tell me that they were all trying to make me happy. If their definition of making a client happy is to keep them for 4 plus hours to waste my time, I would hate to think what they do to others. Adam said cannot do it go to Nissan and get the deal you were getting. I told him it is 930 PM at night and you want me to drive 30 plus minutes south to Fredericksburg for a deal I replied to the dealer was not getting because of Malloy's $28,500 offer. He looked at me and asked me what time that Nissan dealer closed, I just looked at him like, did you not heard what I just said? He then said he used to be a GM at Leckner Nissan in Stafford VA and to take my business there, he called the GM there to make me go there and so that they all could go home to spend with their families during New Year’s festivities. After all who am I but an inconvenience to them.

These individuals who represent the Hyundai Brand are all non-professionals and this must clearly reflect the business practices of Hyundai’s top leadership. In fact, after much reflecting these men had no intention of meeting the $28,500 offer and they hoped to tire me out and leave because of my family obligations at 830 PM. When they realized, I was not leaving they staged their sentencing an execution. Unfortunately, I was the TURKEY. I will do everything in my power to share this story with as many people as possible. In fact, I have shared with local TV stations and shall be seeking legal advice as there must be some sort of State law protecting the consumer. I look forward to understand why my car purchase opportunity to qualify for end of year and rebates was taken away. Why would this man offer something he had no intention of meeting? Why would he make the comment of his son not being accepted in a PR Medical school after he found out of my birth place? Was he seeking revenge? Other important facts to mention: The vehicle which was requested never arrived! Why were the sales personnel to include managers wearing their coats, their cars were being warmed up when I was approached by Rinaldo? I was being forced to make a higher $ purchase out of desperation or was I simply their ‘Ant Farm Project’?
