My issue starts May 3,2017. I joined Laithwait Wine club. paid for and received introductory order. I did not authorize any additional shipment. $180.18 was deducted from my Pay Pay accounty without my authorization. I contacted wine company and was told the money would be refunded back to my Pay Pal account. The money was advanced by Pay Pal into my account. However, the wine company did not send the actual credit to Pay Pal within their specified time. The wine company apologiized for their lateness. However, in the interim Pay Pal withdrew the advance ($180.18) leaving me with the origuinal problem. All efforts to resolve this dilemma with Laiathewaite wines results in double talk, unfulfilled promises, etc.
The latest: On June 22, 2017, Jason (customer service) confirme dhe wine company mailed the check for $180.18 to my home address.
hE said it might take up to a week to receive. I never received the check. Another all to the wine company on June 29th: Stephanie (customer service) confirmed the refund was approved and issued but could take as much as three weeks to actually be received. Another call was made on the same day. I spoke with Chyanne in customer service who said the same thing but should only take 3-5 days, At this point I concluded a scheme/scam and filed this report.
It's really very simple: The company markets dishonestly. I ordered a single case of wine and read the offer (I thought) pretty carefully. I got a case of wine that was pretty decent, but not great. I paid $93 for it. I was considering buying another later after I finish the one I have (It takes me awhile to go through 15 bottles of wine).
To my great surprise, I got an email from Laithwaites that "Your order is on its way." What order? I didn't place an order. Apparently somewhere in the fine print of my original order, they had made me part of a "wine club" that sends out expensive shipments without even sending as much as an email warning first. So they charged me almost $180 for wine that I didn't even order or know about.
The marketing is completely deceptive, which means you can't trust this company. I don't suggest doing business with them at all. I certainly will not be placing any further orders from the company or recommendiing them to any friends, and I intend to contact my bank to file a complaint as well as filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and other agencies.
