Jetboil Reviews

  • Aug 10, 2016

Jetboil seemed promising. I had ordered one of their cooking stoves, and decided to order a smaller one, which I could use experssly for boiling liquids and making coffee. However when I received the product at the campground the ignition ssystem did not work, and, as such, I could not make my cofee, or use the French Press system that I had also purchased from teh company.

I tried emailing and calling the company but did not hear from them for days. No one answered the phones! They just rang and rang! When I did reach a customer rep, she seemed upset that I was upset, and I told her that people rely on camping equipment, and that no one had answered my calls, or emails. Her response was, "Well, we've been really busy."

The new igniter didnt work, so I had to request a new one. It was jsut as difficult reaching Jetboil the second time, and I only received the new burner two days before I left. As such, it had taken me two weeks to get a new striker, and I ended up leaving without a functioning system.

When i got back to Canada I called and asked for a refund, but again, it took a while to hear from anybody. I spoke to the same woman, who asked me if i had bent any of the wires. I told her I didnt know what wires she was talking about and she said she would send instructions. A few days later I got the instructions, which were simply to bend some wire: no pictures, photos, or illustrations. I wrote back that I didnt feel comfortable playing with a gas burner, and bending wires, and that I wanted a refund. She said that since I had used the burner i couldnt return it but I unabashedly said, "No I didnt use it because I couldnt get the burner to work."

I have waited four days now, and still no response. It seems that Jetboil, originally from New Hampshire, has been sold to a large camping supply store, Johnson Outdoors in Racine, Wisconsin. Im not sure where or who is doing what, but I know that I dont feel comfortable bending wires on a gas propane stove, especially without clear, detailed instructions. I hope that Jetboil understands that telling customers to do that is putting them, and their customers at risk of grave accidents, fires, etc.

I had previously ordered a Jetboil stove, and I wasnt pleased with that when I finally got to try it out camping, a few days ago. The Helios, no longer sold, has great potential. One thing it does is it heats water fast but the heat distribution, in the pots and pans that come with the stove, is uneven and food will quickly stick to the pan, burn, even if you carefully monitor the level of the heat. The wind protection ring, made of some kind of synthetic, clear material, melted the second time I used my stove, again, even though I knew to keep the flame relative low.

Ive only ever had two problems with companies, and this is one of them. Perhaps its because Im ordering more things online, but Jetboil should know that customers are often in the wild, using their products, and that we depend on them working. For whatever reason the Sumo Cooking stove didnt work, and the replacements they sent me didnt work either, that means 2 burners didnt work. I wouldnt want to be in the wild, on top of a mountain in Manali, or Maine, in sub -20 temperatures and find out that my Jetboil isnt working.

I hope Jetboil gets their act together and that in the very least, they can adequately staff their customer service departments, and respond the customers' queries.
