Iolo Technologies, LLC. Reviews

I have been using System Mechcanic fot at least 5 years with no problems. They emailed me an opportunity to upgrade to the Phoenix 360 for half price.

I chose to accept the offer. The money was deducted from my account. All I needed to do was download and install the program. It would NOT start. After several failed attempts I sent several emails to Iolo for help. They acknowledged my email and gave me a case number (Case Number: CAS-47122-N5R7B4). But that's as far as it got.

The impression I got was that when they received my payment and I downloaded and installed the program it should work. I would advise caution to anyone considering Iolo's Phoenix 360.

iolo.com Horrible Customer Service. An email response where they arbitrarily close your ticket without a response. I had a legitimate request that they re-send the link for a purchase that I did not know needed to be done again. They simply denied that it existed and when I proved it to them by the email they said they would re-send the link. When they did not re-send the link I tried contacting them and they simply closed my ticket without doing it. But this is really not new. I had similar experience when I converted to SM Professional. And when their system wiped out a SSD - though that was my fault because I did not understand THEIR instructions and I did not get a response when I asked for support. and on and on with very bad customer service No Response from Customer Service - Closed ticket without responding and iolo.com

I prchased program for four home computers. The activation key would not work correctly. It was suppose to be for unlimited computers. After two days of work it finally installed on two compters. They sent me a link to 17.5 and it was not for system mechanic pro. Now they say that I have used all of my downloads. Not much of a tech company if they can't tell that all the install attempts were on two compters.

Not a federal case here, but still annoyed by any response from Iolo System Mechanic just over a week back. I purchased about 2 weeks back now and not pleased that my windows programs all froze up for the longest time when I returned to use them--and Im referring to a break of just a few minutes. In addition my VPN was blocked from not connecting. This program is way too intrusive compared to my past Iobit Advanced System Care.

I uninstalled it and saw the difference in performance. I kept it uninstalled, went back to using Advanced System Care, since it was only a week asked if they could refund and deactivate my Activation Key. No acknowledgement or response. If not it was about $15 special offer. I feel bad for the people conned by aol to pay $5 a month for this. No response to complaint and request to refund www.iolo.com

Like the complaint filed in 2009, I've terminated my long -time relationship with them because of lies, fraud and theft. We had used SM Professional for many years and were satisfied enough to renew each year despite the abysmal customer service which was designated on the previous email.

After close to 1K over the years we received an offer via email which offered a lifetime license for $100.00 and we decided to purchase. Everything went fine for almost a year and then we started receiving email that said it was time to renew. We sent emails advising we had purchased a lifetime license and a copy of the receipt showing the payment. The only response we received came thirty days later when we found the program no longer worked. We spent hours on the phone, usually to someone in a call center out of country, it was not only hard to understand them but most of them had limited experience with English and did not understand the point you were trying to make and kept telling us we needed to renew the license. Emails were worse, many were ignored and other not answered for days, but the response was the same as the phone call. We sent a certified letter to the Account Services Department and never received a reply. In several emails I documented that of they were not going to honor our lifetime purchase agreement, then we were still due another years which would still leave a credit of $10.00 and we did not receive an answer.

We filed complaints with the Consumer Affairs Department and the BBB, but nothing was done. When we attempted to get a refund from the credit card merchant but since if was over one year they would not give us a full or partial refund (we only wanted a partial refund) but they refused. We requested a refund of $70.00 from SM via fax, email and USPS, but like most of the other communications we had sent these were also ignored.

I assume that they had an overwhelming response for these lifetime licenses and when they realized the tens of thousands or more they would lose they decided that they would not honor them. I wrote to every department and company that assists people when a seller does not keep their agreement but no one could/would help, so we eventually realized that it was a lost cause. The only other thing we could have done was file an expensive law suit which only could be filed in California and there’s no telling how long it would take to get on the docket. Even if we won and they were ordered to pay all our legal expenses we would still have to pay thousands upfront.

SM went from being a very good company to one of the worst. I cannot understand why PC Magazine still rates their product as the best and say their customer service is good. They’ve rated SM tops for many years and they did so again this year.

IOLO makes Registry Mechanic. IOLO only updates its product on line. Evidently it is still selling a three year old product marked "New Version" but it really has no new version because it only updates online.

IOLO makes money on the purchase then on the yearly subscription which passes as the "new version" which again is updated throughout the subscription period online.

The problem is that if you have to remove the software to see if the software was in conflict with your operating system, then wish to reinstall, you are unable to do so because the software will not allow a reinstall stating you already have a newer version (remember you updated online).

So you cry foul and ask for your money back. IOLO says, "Not so fast." You only get your money back within the first 30 days. You installed the product more than thirty days ago so you have no recourse but to hold on to a product which is useless to you.

Don't you wish your computer had not required a reinstall of the IOLO product? Congradulations on your new doorstop. Don't forget to udate it from time to time.

I purchased system mechanic, and like other reports listed, had nothing but trouble with the computer after. replaced hard drive, reinstalled essential software only. place their emails in spam folder, thought that was it. noticed a charge on credit card for renewal. they did not have authorization for this! I never auto renew untried software! called support they said they would refund, waiting to see. I believe they are doing this repeatedly! contact states attorney generals office, if this is happening to you!
