My husband was looking for an honest company with whom he could get an honest opinion and detailed assessment of his invention idea that he has been working on for many months.
Because of wonderful sites like this rip off report site, we have learned there are companies out there who are less than honest. Research has shown us that some Invention Companies are just into taking the money and just tell you that your idea has no merit - OR - the opposite - your idea has merit, and send us thousands of dollars.
My husband found this company in Massachusets called Invention City. He took the time to see that they had good reviews. Of course I cannot verify if these good reviews are straight from consumer experience OR are reviews written by members or employees of the company.
Before I begin, let us say, we have been ripped off before by home warranty companies, bad real estate agents, bad dentists, etc. Thus, when one has suffered such losses and feels badly about being fooled, one becomes cautious to say the least.
I did take the time to call this Invention City and spoke to someone named Mike. I explained the situation and wanted to make sure the detailed - promised 20 page report - would be specific to his own invention and not just a "form letter."
Mike assured me that that the report would be detailed, point driven, and honest - whether good or bad.
That sounded fair to me so, my husband and I took the time to make up drawings of the idea and answers to submission questions this company might have.
Today, June 24th, we went to the local library to submit the application. In fact we even e-mailed the 4 drawings of the invention idea to the owner of the company - a guy named Dan.
Along with the drawings and submission, we paid $95 via their pay pal account. I added a note to say that we expected the report to be honest, detailed and specific to his invention so he could have a better understanding of the reasons why or why not the invention would be good or not.
Paying $ 95 for detailed knowledge is fine with us. We just did not want to get a 20 page report ( Mike told me that the report would be about 20 pages himself.) that had 19 pages of no useful information and on the 20th page, a paragraph that state, something like, YOUR IDEA HAS NO MERIT.
In other words, dear readers, we wanted value for the $95 and wanted to insure that we would get such value even if the idea and invention were rejected. At least we would have knowledge, or so we thought.
Well, I guess this Dan and Mike did NOT like the idea of us asking for a detailed report that was NOT a form letter. About 5 minutes after I paid the $ 95, I get an e-mail from Pay Pay saying that our $ 95 was going to be Refunded.
The reason they gave - Mike gave actually, is the following:
The report is on a template and therefore IS a form letter. (This is something he assured me would not be on the telephone a couple of weeks ago.)
Also that they do NOT evaluate TECHNICAL DETAILS OF THE INVENTION.
Well what in the name of Saints do they evaluate? I tried to call and write to them by e-mail and phone, as to why they are treating us so dis-respectfully, and there is NO REPLY. I have heard that some companies, back on the East Coast are naturally rude. Well, point proved here.
I will await the $95 refund. Now I agree that companies have a right to refuse business, but I guess this company - Invention City - does NOT like anyone who askes QUESTIONS? I guess they expect people to just submit the ideas, send the photos, and pay the $95 - then be content with a form letter report.
This company does state that they reject many more ideas then they accept. However, again it seems they just want meek people who do not ask questions nor have any sort of expectations. A Brutally Honest Report is what they offer and what we expected.
We just did not expect to be thrown away - like yesterdays trash - just because we wanted a quality report and not a form letter report. I do not see any negative nor positive reviews on this Invention City in Massachusetts.
I invite any reader out there, to voice any experience they had with Invention city - good or bad. Right now, our own review and opinion is Negative. Sorry to Say.
