International Girl Pageants Reviews

  • Jun 1, 2017

My daughter recently participated in the Alabama pageant this past weekend. She had a great time making new friends and doing something that she had never done however there are some things that occurred over the course of the weekend that you should be made aware of. And how I was a victim of bait and switch. I did what was asked and went directly to the director for a resolution to one of the problems yet all I got was a runaround and swept under the rug and no resolution to that matter. First let me say that prior to this event I spoke with the director on the phone about my daughters talent and that her talent required props I was told no props were allowed. That put us in a bind to come up with a talent. But we came up with something just to participate in that portion of the event. During the event they were many people who actually had props for their talent. This does not create an equal opportunity for competition. Secondly in that same phone conversation with the director I was told for my daughter's division 10 to 12 no make up with the exception of only a little mascara and lipgloss. Yet during the event all of those that placed higher than her where in full make up. And I am referring to blue eyeshadow and red lipstick. Again this does not create an equal opportunity for competition. Thirdly my daughter entered into the top model competition for her age group 10 to 12. During the event my daughter was bumped and placed into the category with girls that were 14 to 17. This just stressed my daughter extremely. I asked the director about this and was told no one else was in her category so she had to make a decision and she felt that she held her own. I expressed my disappointment and displeasure over this decision because there was a child in a lower age group that completed by herself in her age group. How is that fair how is that professional how is that to make my daughter feel?

It was allowed for one child in a different age group to complete alone but not for mine. I even sent the director a snapshot of the Facebook post where it listed the age groups. I should have been refunded my money made aware of the situation or she should have been allowed to compete in her own age group by herself just like the other child. Classic bait and switch. Fourthly at the parent meeting the passive aggressive speech that was given in regards to the director was not appreciated. I simply did what I was asked to do and that was to talk to the director if there was a problem and not badmouth her or the pageant to other moms. But when I did it apparently hurt her feelings and they felt justified to give this passive aggressive speech regarding not to upset the director. Fifth issue- The location of the housing for the girls. I do not think safety was even considered in selecting Tillmans corner and especially this hotel because this is not a location where beautiful young girls need to be. Upon entering into the hotel after one of the events several children witnessed two individuals having sex in the grassy knoll next to the hotel - I am talking abou girls that are 7-13 and up. Not to mention the fact that one of the what I consider a homeless individual male followed girls up to the floor where all the girls were housed. He then proceeded to go up and down the hallway looking at the girls pictures on their posters on the door. Then when another mom witnessed this and stood there and made him uncomfortable he knocked on someone's door the front desk called that room and that individual said he did not know anyone and he saw him and was not going to open the door for him. The gentleman said he had a friend staying in that room.

There was no security at this location where there were young girls that we're having a good time and going up and down the hallway to visit their friends. Putting my child at risk for danger in this type of situation is uncalled for. And the organization should be ashamed of putting young girls in jeopardy and in a situation to see people having sex!! Sixth reason for disappointment is that apparently there are more moms of younger babies that were not informed that they should have a swim diaper on their children in the pool. Therefore while all the girls were in the pool the child defecated in the pool. One or two things might be overlooked but this laundry list of issues that occurred is unprofessional, intolerable and gives this program a bad name. Seventh issue because my daughter could not do her original talent she had to do something else.

Therefore when my special needs daughter got awarded the talent title she was very upset and did not understand why the girl that actually had talent and could dance like no other did not get that talent title. It would devastate my daughter if I told her the truth that that title actually just means fourth place and it had nothing to do with her actual talent. It is of my personal opinion that because I approached the director with my issue of the top model and expressed my disapproval of the way the situation was handled that my daughter did not have an equal opportunity of competition she was penalized by the judges. Now you can say all day long that they are impartial but I know for a fact that the girl that won a different top model age division has actually participated in events for the judge. I have left this weekend feeling like I have been swindled out of my money. I am extremely disappointed in the unprofessionalism of this organization. And I am angry that I have been taken advantage of.
