IDrive, Inc. Reviews

This company has sent me emails stating they could not renew my service as my credit card had expired. The email stated that I should update my information so they could continue my service.

Although I did nothing - they charged my card successfully anyway by contacting my credit card company.

No where in their communication emails (multiple) did it state that they would charge my card even if I did not physically update my billing information.

Instead, I was referred to their original terms of service (in very fine print) that states they can use an expired card.

this company has very deceptive practises!!!

Initial pricing was $6 for 1TB for a year, then at end of year, they offered upgrade to 10TB for $50, so I upgraded.

Renewal notice came for this year, but didn't mention anything about a pricing change and all of a sudden I am receiving a Credit Card charge for $500. After contacting them, they said I already owed them for a month and could only return $463 and they wanted to send it as a check. I had to threaten them to get them to directly apply to Credit Card and I am still waiting for that credit.

Illegal? No. Unethical? Highly.

Stay away from this company.

We have a $99/year plan with them and it ended up costing $1000/month - over several months!

It has caused us some cash flow issues, however, I fear a smaller business could be in severe financial distress.

We originality contacted their support when we noticed we had gone over our limit. They told us it was not an issue and the back ups would continue to work fine. At no point did they mention anything about their over charges.

Whilst waiting for their answer, I had looked in more detail and seen they have something called versioning and thought it was connected with this and assumed everything was fine.

We left it to run and months later I look again and they have been charging $1028/month in overage charges (in total they have taken over $12500 to-date). I contacted their support and they offered $250 credit.

Backup services should be something you can set up and then leave to run. Left unchecked this could have ended my business. Avoid!

I have unfortunately found out recently that iDrive is useless.... I had my laptop stolen and relied on iDrive for a backup. As it seems, iDrive had not been correctly backing up even though it stated each day it was successful. I managed to get a partial restore however many important files were either missing or corrupt. I checked all past 10 revisions and every single one of them was the same. It turns out the past 6 months data has issues.

To make matters worse, support has been completely unhelpful. It takes a week or more to receive a response, if at all, and each time I have been provided with generalised information that is completely irrelevant to my issue. On top of that I have been informed that any missing files are only kept for 30 days and it has now been well past this timeframe due to the slow response time. I hope this experience serves as a warning to others to avoid similar issues. I will definitely be changing to another online backup solution and urge others to do the same.

This company is unethical, irresponsible, inept, and those are the nice things about iDrive. Once you give them a credit card they have you hog tied and roped in through their user agreement. Take the time to read it and you won't use their service. Suggestion: remove your credit card from your customer page and delete auto-pay which they select by default so you won't know when they take money from your credit card. The many customer complaints have a common thread.

Yes, they lie, they cheat, they steal. They avoid e-mails as they see fit especially cancelation e-mails. I sent a Certified letter by US Post Office and they signed for it, still they failed to cancel my account. In a follow up phone call, always long hold times, I reached the Senior Rep. Bart who fumbled and refused to answer questions about my letter 8 months earlier which demanded they Cancel my account. Why is it still active? Bart refused to answer stuttering and mumbling about not having gotten the letter. But your company signed for it! They are either extremely inept, or flagrantly unethical. My opinion it's the latter. They are efficient when it comes to taking your money and refusing to give it back when you catch them exfolliating your wallet because you unwittingly "selected" auto-pay which gives them approval to bill you for "extras". After they have your credit card, there moto " we gotcha now" Caveat Emptor.

You are best served by buying your own external hard drive. Why trust an unethical bunch of thieves.

Suggestions: If you are a subscriber rush to your customer page and de-select "auto-pay" which which they claim you "selected" by default. Remove your credit card number. Follow-up your decision with an e-mail as your proof of the date on which you unchecked auto-pay and removed your credit card - remeber they have your information even after you remove it. So you’ll need proof of the action you took because there remains a BIG possibility they will still bill your credit card even after you remove it and revoked authorization. Still want to trust this company with your data?

P.S. Don't trust reviews from websites like PC Mag - they are given affiliate kickbacks for driving traffic to iDrive. Read actual consumer reviews here on BBB and elsewhere and you'll see this company is a poor choice.
