Hawks Yachts Reviews

  • Feb 2, 2017

We were so excited to purchase our first boat. My family and I had spent many years barely even being able to afford rent so to finally have reached a place in our life where we can afford to purchase a boat was beyond exciting.

We did some searching and found Hawk's Yachts. We looked at few boats and found one we liked. It was a used Bayliner. We arranged to take the boat our for a test spin. Everything was great. The boat ran well, it appeared to be in good condition. I was beyond excited.

The boat was ready in a few days and we went to go pick the boat up. We chose to drive the boat from the Marina to the dock where we were keeping the boat. On the way home the boat started to act sluggish. I stopped the boat and called Hawk Ennis to ask him what was wrong. He told me it was likely a fuel filter that needed to be replaced. So we kept going and the boat seemed fine after a few minutes.

We docked the boat and went inside to have dinner.

Our 5 year old son was so excited to see the boat so we walked down to the dock to let him see it. Of course he says "Daddy, Daddy can we go out?" and I obliged as I'm sure any father would :)

We headed out into the bay and after about 5 minutes the boat just died on us. A friend of mine was onboard who had a lot more experience with boats than myself so I asked him what could be wrong. We couldn't figure it out. The boat was completely dead and would not start. I was stunned. I mean we literally just purchased the boat 2 hours ago.

I called Hawk and basically he said "Sorry", but there was nothing he could do. His response to me was, "Well you shouldn't have taken the boat back out."

After the boat was acting sluggish it stopped and nothing appeared to be wrong, so never in a million years did I think something was going to happen. Hawk was extremely rude to us. I was really in complete shock because I had just bought a boat from this guy.

We ended up having to have the boat towed. I felt awful, our poor 5 year old son was terrified. We had only planned on staying out for a few minutes but with the boat being dead, night time came and it was honestly very scary for all of us. We ended up being stuck out on the water with the boat dead for 4 hours. I have never felt so bad in my life for my son it was awful.

To make a long story short it cost us $10,000 to get the boat fixed, that's not including the $2,000 it cost us to be towed. I had numerous conversations with Hawk Ennis. I can't even begin to tell you how rude he was to us. He kept trying to blame us and say it was our fault. He sent a mechanic to come look at the boat. I won't put the mechanics name in here but the mechanic that Hawk sent to look at the boat told us that this was in NO WAY our fault that we were basically sold a lemon. The mechanic said, there is no way they should have ever sold this boat to you." According to the mechanic if they had actually inspected the boat they would have known the engine was bad. Which brings me to another point. There is an inspection you can have done on a boat when you purchase it. The sales person told us about this, but he very cleverly preyed on the fact that we were excited new boat owners. He actually encouraged us to not have the inspection done. His exact words were, "There's absolutely no need to do an inspection on this we've checked it over very carefully and everything is in to shape, if you have an inspection done it will take quite a while and you will have to wait to get your boat." The salesman's name was Cary Henley. We sadly made a decision to trust them and it was obviously the wrong decision. But not one that we should be penalized for because when someone buys a boat and it dies the day they buy it, that is not right that the dealer wouldn't make it right.

To really do my due dilligence I had 3 other mechanics look at the boat and all of them said the same thing, that we were sold a lemon. All of the mechanics have also agreed to confirm that this is all 100% truth.

I called and texted with Hawk numerous times and he refused to do anything. At first when this all began after many conversations Hawk finally agreed to split the cost of the repairs with me. However when he found out that it was the engine he refused to do anything.

I can't even begin to say how disappointed I am. I never imagined my first ever boat purchase would have gone this bad. It's beyond disappointing. I never dreamed I would buy a boat for 11k and then the next day I bought it find out I had to spend 10k to get it fixed. I just want this made right. And if Hawk refuses to make it right I hope someone who may make the mistake of buying a boat from him will see this and be warned. He obviously is a man who does not stand behind his word.
