Hats Off Motorsports Reviews

Brought my boat into them to diagnose a problem with the spark. I was told they were very busy and it would be a few days before they could get to it. This is understandable. It’s summer. Peak time for boating and cycling. I was told it would be $90 for an hour of diagnostics, and if it took any longer than an hour they would call me first.

I called them after a week of not hearing from them. They haven’t had a chance to look yet, they are still very busy, call back in a few days. I called back another week later. Still haven’t looked at it. Call back in a few days. I called back another week later. They said they will look at it tomorrow. I stopped in the next day to talk to the mechanic who told me it’s not the power pack, and that he needs to look at it some more. Stopped in the next day and was told it was the power pack and the stator, and that it had taken 1.5 hours to diagnose.

It took them three and a half weeks to schedule in an hour of work. Perhaps they should hire more help, or better manage their time. And they did not call me to inform me they need more than the hour to perform the diagnostics. Fine. Not a huge deal.

So they quote me $350 for parts, and claim it’s gonna take 4 hours to replace the parts, for a grand total of roughly $750 - $800 and that it would take at least a week to get the parts. I politely decline and pay them for the 1.5 hours ($145) and hook up my boat and leave. I take the boat to my brothers house in a small town that is near our summer cabin on the river where we keep the boat.

I order the parts online for $250. The parts arrive in three days. My brother is not a mechanic, but he does know his way around an engine. From start to finish, from taking the first screw off, to tightening the last screw back on, it took him a grand total of one hour and 45 minutes.. (which included running to the local parts store which is 20 minutes away to borrow a wheel puller to get the flywheel off) So it took just over an hour to replace the parts. They were gonna charge me for 4 hours of labor.

My brother calls me and says I forgot to give him the key, and that it wasn’t in the boat. I go to Hats Off and ask them for the key. They look in the office and lo and behold it’s not on the clipboard. They ask the mechanic and he very rudely says he doesn’t remember what he did with it. They tell me it’s been a long day and it’s hot and he’s cranky. They will look for it. I stop in a couple of days later. They still don’t have the key and insist it’s in the boat. I drive to my brothers house and look myself, of course it’s not there. I go back a few days later to see if they found my key yet. They say it’s standard practice to keep the key in the boat (not on the clipboard like any other service department) and that it is totally MY FAULT for losing the key.

They don’t offer any type of remedy to this situation.. they don’t even apologize for losing my key. I ask them if they will do something.. anything to fix this. They could offer to replace my ignition switch, or pay for a locksmith to make me a new key. But they double down and say I’m trying to swindle them and that I lost the key myself.

Wow. Word of warning. Don’t go to Hats Off Motorsports in Bellevue, Ne. IF you have a pleasant experience, consider yourself lucky.
