Get Your Pet Reviews

On August 23, 2019, I viewed a dog on getyourpet.com. I found one that said it would be euthanized the next day (or within a couple of days) if she did not find a home so I thought I would give her a chance and bring her home. I had just lost my other dog 30 days prior so I went to meet her. In her picture, all you could see was her face, so I was shocked when I pulled up to see a morbidly obese dog with an owner who knew nothing about the dog. They had some BS story of how they came to have the dog but after thinking about it, we realized it was all lies.

The website does have a disclaimer that they do not verify ownership, health or temperment of any animal listed on their website but this was a gross neglect on their part. We took the dog home rather than know she had a death sentence. When we took her to the vet for the first time, we were told she had mammary tumors on both sides, which they call "chains". Surgery was recommended so we went to a few vets to get second and third opinions. Also, her teeth were in horrible shape and nobody could tell if she had been spayed or not. Not even the vets which was weird.

Anyhow, we did some research and found out that mammary tumors can often be cancerous so we took her to an oncologist. At that time she recommended they all be removed or at least do biopsies on a few of them. We had a consultation with the surgeon and she recommended the least invasive surgery to find out if she had cancer. She had her surgery and a few were biopsied and came back malignant. One was of great concern because it was an aggressive cancer that could metasticize into her lungs and bones. At that point they gave her three months to live unless we put her through chemo, which we did. She had five chemo treatments and numerous trips back and forth for ultrasounds, xrays and bloodwork. I did contact getyourpet.com and explained the situation and asked that they help recoup the vet bills which turned out to be over $10,000 but of course they referred me to their disclaimer.

Long story short, two weeks ago we were told that her cancer had spread to her lungs and she didn't have a lot of time left to live. NOBODY should be able to present themselves as a dog adoption agency of sorts having not had the animals vetted. They claim to be a service to which an adoption fee was paid but they waived mine. To me, that is an admission of guilt and they knew what had happened was not kosher. I asked for some of the vet bills be paid by them but of course they said no that it wasnt their responsibility. How can a "business" operate selling animals that they have no information on? The disclaimer is there but I will go out on a limb and say that most people do not expect to get a very ill dog when they adopt from their website. I just want anybody who is considering to use their website to find your "best friend", go through a reputable humane society or rescue group who has already had their animals 100% vetted. These people are nothing but money grabbers preying on the emotions of animal lovers. Their entire story needs to be told so they are shut down.
