Gerhard's Appliances Reviews

  • Jun 6, 2018

All was great until delivery which was a disaster. I went out to the truck when they pulled up to check my appliances and one guy without asking or having been given an invitation ran into my home close the front door and was in my home several minutes before I noticed. I proceeded to see what was going on, when I went to reach for the door it was being taken off of the hinges without my permission. He began to take the pins out of the storm door until I stopped him mainly because I was upset that he thought he had the right to enter our home unescorted and without permission. We had a brief discussion whether the old refrigerator could be taken out without taking the doors off which was done when it was delivered. I then asked him to first bring in the new refrigerator and set it up so that I could exchange the food from the old to the new, he refused. As I started taking food out the refrigerator and putting it on the counter the began grabbing my food and throwing it on the counter and smashing my produce by putting cans on top of the produce in the drawers that I took out.

They insisted on taking it out with food still in it. They then brought the new refrigerator in, hooked up the water line, pushed it in, lowered the two front levelers to the floor. I then stated that they told me that they would level it. His response was that it came level. I told him that the floor is not and you need to level it. He stated that he didn’t even have a level so I gave him one to use. After they left, I saw that it wasn’t level and had to level it myself. I pulled it out to look for the serial number and found out that they kinked the copper water line and I had to replace it. Next they brought in the stove, I gave him the cord and the romex connector and later would find out that he just slipped the connector through the wire, did not install the connector to the stove leaving the wire exposed to sharp sheet metal.

I then looked and saw that the did not push the stove back all the way because it was hitting the outlet box by about 1/16th of an inch. All that needed to be done was to raise the levelers in the back to clear the box. He then shoved his cell phone in my face and asked me to sign. I refused until he did the job correctly. He got really annoyed, yanked the stove out, ran the levelers up uneven and pushed the stove back and then basically lowered the levelers in the front. I should have never signed his phone and just thrown him out. When I checked the stove, not only was it not level but it rocked back and forth diagonally. We would later find out that they ripped the handle off our old stove which was being given to somebody else.

I brought this to the attention of the salesman, he said he would give me my delivery money back and take care of replacing the handle on the old stove. He told me someone would be calling me from delivery. The girl on the phone started out with ‘the problem with old stoves is that it is hard to prove’ basically calling me a liar and stating that they are not going to fix it. Yes I raised my voice a little bit and started to say ‘don’t give my that crap’ and I was going to say ‘before you even hear what I have to say’. She cut me off on mid sentence and said you need to calm down and I am putting you on hold until you do. She never took me off of hold. I do have 1 witness who was in my kitchen 5-10 minutes before they came and was looking towards the stove as I showed him my new camera case and can testify that the handle was intact when he was here. Also have three more that saw the stove after I brought the new one. This is absolutely no way to treat a customer. The proper way would have been to ask if you had any way to prove that they broke it, however, I had already talked to sales at the store and they told me that I was truthful and then only to have someone at the company question my integrity without giving me a chance to hear my side of the story.

John Cooper, who was my salesman, was great at suggesting and showing me different options without trying to push more expenses items. He was great d listen to you as far as what you wanted in an appliance. After the sale and after all the problems with delivery John was there for us. He was the one that got our refund on our delivery charge. He also got a new handle sent out to replace the broken one but I will have to install it myself which isn’t right but John did the best he could. The total door has to be taken apart to install the handle which takes about 45 minutes to an hour which should be done by Gerhard’s due to the fact that their delivery guys broke it. John Cooper is a great asset to Gerhard’s, he works hard trying to take care of everybody and I would buy from him again but I would either pick up or have them drop shipped due to the delivery guys rudeness and the fact that they did not care about the quality of their work. All they cared about was getting in and out as fast as they could and could care less about the customers that they are suppose to be serving.
