Formosa Covers Reviews

  • Aug 28, 2015

I bought a cover from Formosa Covers thru Amazon.com on June 24 2015 to protect my Gem e2 that I got on June 4 2015. The description on Amazon said that it was for a Gem e2. My Gem e2 was in a local 4th of July Parade and that following Monday, July 6th 2015 I covered my Gem with the cover from Formosa Covers.

On July 20th 2015 I took the cover off and was horrified at the sight. All of the white on my Gem e2 had black stains that had embedded into the plastic as the cover had bled onto my vehicle. I wrote to Amazon and to the seller on July 23 2015. I received many emails telling me that I should wash and wax my vehicle which I already did. I asked to speak to the owner several times and after about a week Nick Wu the owner of Formosa Covers emailed and called me. He assured me that he would fix the damage that their cover did to my Gem e2.

I explained to him that the doors and trunk along with the quarter panels etc were stained. He wanted to know who to contact in the area to get the parts for replacement. I gave hin ny salesman's name and number who is the Gem dealer in this area. Nick contacted Steven and asked him to get a quote on both replacement parts for my Gem and also the cost to replace the Gem its self. Steven sent Nick both and then Nick must have decided that he was not going to keep his word and fix the damage that his product did.

Nick then called and said he wanted a 'professional' detailer to come and try to clean my vehicle. On Aug 10 a mobile detailer came and tried to clean the Gem. Joe had said that the black dye from the cover had soaked nd embedded into the plastic and it could not be taken out. He even tried a rubbing compound. He talked to Nick Wu after the visit and told him that the stains could not be taken out of the Gem. Nick then asked him if bleach would take out the stains and Joe said he told him that doing that would further ruin the Gem. He also told me that he was not responsible for damage done to my Gem as it is an 'older' model and he said 'for damage caused by a cheap cover" (Most people buy covers for older classic cars etc to protect them)

Nick then sent me an email telling me that he wanted someone to come and use gasoline and bleach on the vehicle. I talked to Nick on the phone and again he insisited that gasoline and bleach would solve the problem. I called Polaris, the makers of the Gem e2 and explained the problem hoping they could come up with something to help remove the stains. Robbie from Polaris said that since this was a TPO Plastic that the dye had embedded in and nothing would remove it. I did mention about that Nick wanted to use gasoline & bleach and Robbie said that was caustic and would further damage it.

I have sent emails to Nick and he has not answered me back. Steven also sent emails and again Nick has not responded. From the last phone conversation Nick, it sounds like once he found out that the stain had embedded in and the cost to replace the parts he is now not going to do anything about it.

All I asked for was for my Gem e2 to be restored back to the same condition it was when I put on the cover July 6 2015 that was to protect my vehicle not damage it! Nick said that he would fix the damage that a cover from his company caused, and now will not stand up to his product or his word.
