Florida Window & Door Scott Berman Palm Beach Gardens Florida

salesman arrived at my house with sample of window to be installed in my house it was 9/16" thick. The windows eventually installed were 5/16 and 7/16

I live in Melbourne Florida 32904 make the following true and factual statements regarding the purchase of hurricane impact windows for my residence from Florida Window and Door (FW&D):

I called FW&D in mid May to request a estimate to replace all the windows in my house. On May 29th around 1pm the salesman Dan Mxxxxx came to my house to measure the windows and give me the estimate. He brought a sample of the window that FW&D installs. The sample was 9/16 of an inch thick and I was very impressed with the thickness of the glass. He proceeded to tell me all the postive aspects of having glass this thick compared to the lesser windows sold by Lowes and Home Depot. He went into detail explaining that the thicker the glass is the better the home is protected from not only weather but noise and possible intruders as well. I asked him several times if that was the same exact glass that would be installed in my home and he replied yes. He said it was the only glass they had. They did not sell thinner glass. I was very impressed with the glass. I had 2 other estimates from other companies that were lower in price but the glass was only about half as thick so I made the choice to pay more and go with FW&D. The total was $9,182 to include everything (Permits, tear out, haul away and stucco work). I paid for half ($4,591) with my (Visa) Credit Card when I signed the contract on May 22nd 2015. I was told the windows would be installed in 4 to 6 weeks. The insallation crew arrived on August 8th. They knocked on the door and could not speak a single word of English. One of them handed me the phone and it was one of the ladies from FD&W telling me that I had to pay the other half before they could start so I paid the additional $4,591 from my Suntrust (Master Card) credit card. I tried on several occasions to communicate with the installers but without any of them being able to speak English it was fruitless. The installers were a great group of guys. very respectfull and done a good job installing the windows. The building inspector came out a few days after the install and mentioned that the windows were not the same thickness. I also inmmediately noticed that some of the windows were fogging while others werent and this is from the same opening. The top half was not fogging while the bottom half was. After going oveer the paperwork that I believe the installers forgot on my front porche I seen that the windows were made by a company called TM Windows in Pompano Florida and that 6 of my windows were built to be 7/16th thick while the other 7 were made 5/16th of an inch thick. None of them are the 9/16th I was told by Mr.Mxxxx would be installed in my home. The windows do not look right as the top half is thicker then the bottom half. The top does not fog up but the bottom does. I called Mr. Mxxxx and explained to him that the windows were not what he told me I would get. He said he had no idea that there was more then one thicknessof window and that he only carried one sample because he was told all the windows were that same thickness. I called the office number several times and spoke with Dawn, She gave me a number for a guy named Justin that was the sales manager and I called him on Sept. 8th and explained what happened and he agreed with me and asked me to text my information to him and he would talk to the owner and work out a discount. He never contacted me, I Texted him again on the 11th, 14th, 16th, and 29th no response. Mr Mxxxx called me on Sept 28th and told me him and another Salesman from FW&D went to the States Attorney Office to voluntarily give statements pertaining to the fraud they were unknowingly apart of with FD&W showing and promising one product then installing another. Im in the process of charging back my credit cards. I would be happy with the right windows or a refund. Most likely anyone that has done business with this company has been ripped off.

Florida Window and Doors had the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

i ordered 14 hurricane-proof windows from them. They mismanaged the permits resulting in a month delay in placing the manufacture order. The measurement person assumed one window was the same size as the other two and did not measure it. He was wrong.

The installation team did not check the new window measurements before removing the old window so we ended up with a plywood window for 2 months while a new window was manufactured. Yes, 2 months...

Throughout all these mistakes and events, the staff never apologized or offer any compensation. In fact, every step of the way, we received an attitude from the staff as if we were being difficult. Even after the final window installation 2 months late, the owner demanded immediate payment, not even allowing one week longer.

Unfortunately I have only now read the stories on this company and can only hope that future potential customers check these sites before using them.

Scott Berman owner of NorthField Holdind Corp DBA Florida window and door per his resume linked next and Justin Kaplin his puppet is running the same scene as 2009 shut down by the Attorney General per the link Above. New employees beware his iPad presentation and long driving will never bring you to your closed commissions which is how someone in the window business will make no money, he will make the salesman drice over pocket, and represent a product that will for one not be the same represented and take 6-12 months to install Industry avg to install windows and doors with permit and enginerring is 60-90 for install for a non fraudulent company. Even with the excuse for engineering. He will screw anyone from sales rep that quit or let's go, to vendors to less of a product in your home for a higher profit. Email questions to

His IPad presentation and pricing is set up to make the employee at the time to believe he will make a lot of money which the install takes over 6 months or over a year if there's a service needed.

Don't take my word look at the link or risk your time or money. Just a fair "Warning "if you have family to attend too he doesn't care. Client or employees he needs your front end money. Period. We have collected multiple sales reps to clients that will love to hear your story.

Florida Window and Door took our deposit on January 30, 2016, and we signed the first page of the contract on a clipboard and were never shown the Terms and Conditions on the backside, until the sales manager Justin Kaplan left. Had we seen that side; we would have never signed.

They measured for the windows on February 22, 2016 and have done nothing since. Except yell at us when we inquire as tot he status of our job.

We never signed a Permit Application, and according to Florida Statute 489.126 by failing to apply for a permit within 30 days after receiving a deposit on the job. The deposit amounted to more than 10 percent of the contract price and the State requires the permit application to be made within that time period. Therefore they are in violation and have never followed through.

Florida Window and Door wanted a larger down payment than we were willing to give, so had us borrow money from Enterbank UsA, and that company forwarded FL Window and Door $3750 when they had done nothing. We gave them a check for $4500.

In thier brochure they claim an "A" rating with the BBB...however when you go to BBB.org, they are not an accredited company. And there have been multiple blogs posted.

They charged us $1884. for engineering drawings and permits; later we found they do not do drawings and the permit should be well below $300.

Because of over 100 complaints issued on the BBB and other sites including facebook, and the fact the company was shut down in 2009, we wrote a letter terminating our contract and requested a refund of our deposits, to which they have not responded.

I suggest you go elsewhere when looking for impact windows and doors; this company is not performing.

Contracted with Florida Window and Door on February 18th. Gave them 3500.00. They cashed the check in 1 day then you can foget about hearing from them or getting any information about what is going on. They promise to call you and never do they promise to get your permit and they let it just sit there not pciked up. The office is so unprofesssional. I have called to get information more that 10 times and still to this day have not gotten any answers to when i can get my 2 yes 2 doors. These doors cost my almost 7000.00 and still I can't get them. But they are out there selling more windows and doors to people who didnt read the Better Business Bureau reports. Do not buy from these people it is a scam and you will be waiting for more than awhile.

Consumer fraud alert!

We spent over $13,000 and come to find out (from the manufacturer) the windows that were installed in my home are not the ones that were sold to me during their home demonstration.

In April of this year I was visited at my home by a Sales Manager in which he demonstrated the insulation of their glass. He used liquid nitrogen to freeze one side of the glass and with an infrared thermometer they showed the temperature on one side was 15 degrees and on the other it was 80 degrees. He also did this test with a heat lamp and had the same result on the room temperature side.

So I purchased what I thought to be the exact same insulated and heat resistant windows for my home. However, the windows installed only have a "thick plastic tint" in the center which is not heat resistant and not insulated. In fact, I can feel the heat of the evening sun on my back through the window in my dining room as I sit and eat dinner.

The quote for the windows I thought I purchased states, "Two coats of impact tint designed to reflect the maximum amount of heat from the sun away from your home." I confirmed with the manufacturer that there is only one piece of plastic in between the glass, not two, nor does it reflect heat. You can feel the heat on your hand if you touch the inside of the window and you can feel it beaming on you!

On September 2nd I called and expressed my concerns to both the Sales Manager and the Office Manager. They both said they would call me back and they have not. That same day I emailed them and included the President and an HR email address I found online. I recapped the situation in the email and asked for someone to contact me.

I have emailed them repeatedly since then saying I still have not been contacted to resolve the issue. My original request via phone was to have someone from their company come out and look at my windows. After that is when I called the manufacturer and found out what was installed was not what I had been sold/saw in the demonstration!

They installed an inferior product. I have contacted everyone at the company that I have contact information for, I've contacted them several times, and I have given them ample time to respond, but not a word! They are hoping I give up and they get to keep my hard earned money with their bait and switch sales tactics!

Beware! They only have an A rating with BBB because they sued BBB:

Ordered One window and one door in November 2012. In Feb 2013 got the install. What a hackjob. They tell you when you order you will just have to paint. The concrete stucco mess they caked onto painted stucco did not stick. I had to scrape for hours around the window and restucco. Inside I had to replace moldings. They cut my alarm wires, sheetrock mud them into the wall and tell you to call your alarm company. They left a mess in the yard and a mess in the driveway. The slider screen handel hits the handel of the slider. (total design flaw)

Called them about these problems and they tell you that they will look into it and call you back. When I called a week later they said "we will call you back" Still have not called me back. I found out that they overcharged me for a permit and their prices are HIGHER than other impact glass installers. $5000. for one door and one window installed 3 months after order. Now add my time to clean up, redo stucco, moldings, paint and have an alarm co install sensors. Jupiter Florida

FLORIDA WINDOW AND DOOR SCOTT BERMAN, SETHI SETHI SCAMMERS!

Florida Window and Door doesn't even deserve 1 star. It's a Boiler Room of Bad Faith, Misrepresentations and Lies.

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY!! RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!

On July 1, 2016, a sales representative for Florida Window and Door, 'Seth Sethi' came to our house and sold us a pack of lies. We gave him a $7,500.00 deposit (50%), for 2 cabana doors, 1 slider (2 panels) for the Master Bdrm, and a special order of five, (5), 5' foot wide glass door panels, that formed 2 sets of sliding pocket doors, for a total of 25' feet in length, and almost 7 feet high.

One set of the pocket doors, (3 doors, measuring 15 feet across), faces East, on the back side of the Palmetto Golf Course, in Miami Dade County, with nothing between it and US1 but approx. 1 mile of grass. This is referred to as a Wind Zone 5. (It is not in a Flood zone...they are two different things).

The second set of sliding pocket doors, measures 10 feet across, and is placed perpendicularly to the other set, facing South. There is ONE support beam that the doors close into, and that ties into the roof.

The house was built in 1963. The soffits are Non-Structural and the entire doorway, base, soffit and support beam system were to be structurally assessed and reinforced, per Seth Sethi, prior to installation of the impact doors. Special Order 'Oversized' doors, require special installation. I was very specific when I told him that I wanted everything, including the bases, to be reinforced, to withstand the weight of 25 feet of impact glass doors, plus the potential thrust of Category 5 Hurricane winds. This is NOT your typical Impact Glass Door Installation.

Little did we know at the time, that only 5 months earlier, 'Niraj' Sethi had been arrested and convicted TWICE! for swindling elderly people (by posing as a contractor and selling 'Impact Windows'). See below:

"A Broward County man who swindled senior citizens out of money by posing as a contractor is under arrest, officials say.

This is the second arrest for Niraj Sethi in less than a month on similar charges, according to the Florida Division of Insurance Fraud."

Here's the Link: http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Man-Arrested-for-Targeting-South-Florida-Seniors-with-Contractor-Scam-292071791.html

So OF COURSE he was completely lying to us when he said a Structural Engineer would assess and reinforce the doorways. We didn't figure that out until later, after I sent several emails and Certified letters to Scott Berman, asking WHEN a Structural Engineer was going to come to my home to do this. My emails and letters were ignored. Please note, that I sent these emails and letters LONG before the doors were ever manufactured. Scott Berman KNEW I was reaching out to him...I had the letters signed for with Proof of Receipt and Signature Required...but he INTENTIONALLY ignored my requests for him to do the requisite work needed to make this a correct inspection, based on Miami Dade County Impact Wind codes. The installation, especially in this case, required more than the average install work.

When the doors were completed, a month late, Florida Window and Door contacted me so it could do the installation. I ignored them until they responded to my emails re the soffit assessment and reinforcement.

Florida Window and Door emailed back saying it would not have a Structural Engineer assess or do the requisite reinforcement work. I refused to accept the doors. It put a lien on my home. I hired an attorney. It refused to let us inspect the doors to see if they were, in fact made correctly, which sounds like Florida Window and Door is trying to hide something, as well as trying to install doors with sub-standard work.

I considered settling for the cost of the doors, and paying someone else to install, but Florida Window and Doors has denied us access to the doors, as of this writing, 10-30-17. Supposedly the doors are still located at TM Windows in Broward. That was ANOTHER lie...Sethi said "Florida Window and Door manufactures all of it's own product on it's own property". So why is TM Window making it then??!! Because FLW&D LIES!!

The permit that Florida Window and Door had opened expired in Feb of 2017. I renewed it hoping I might have a resolution in 6 months, but NO, because we couldn't inspect the doors, so permit #2 expired. I had to go to the Bldg Dept to pay to officially close it. An Inspector had to come to my house to confirm that no work had been done. When he asked me why, I told him what was happening and why I had refused the doors.

He said that he would never have passed an inspection on doors, based on the age of the house, the Zone 5 location, the oversized area of glass, unless the soffits, etc had been reinforced. That was all I needed to hear.

Florida Window and Door is trying to 'pull this off' w/o doing the proper work, leaving me, a trusting customer, that paid a State Licensed Professional General Contractor, without properly installed impact glass doors, because Florida Window and Door is apparently willing to do incompetent, negligent and potentially dangerous and life-threatening, sub-standard installations of impact glass doors. It operates through deception, misrepresentation and out right lies, using convicted felons to dupe and swindle consumers.

Now, I am going to court to fight for a full refund, plus Legal fees. I refuse to buy doors from swindlers that lie, mislead, take advantage of and Rip Off the public. This company has been shut down once. I can't wait to see it go down again! It will be my life mission to stop them from cheating people!
