I needed to upgrade some of my outlets as I prepared to sell my home. The owner of FJG Electric came to review the work that needed to be done and quoted me an hourly rate of $65.00/hour. A few weeks later two men came to do the work and were there for no more than four hours (I was at the house the entire time). Although the work had already been reviewed and assed during the earlier meeting with the owner, several trips were needed for breakers and supplies. Granted the two men who came to my house had a work truck that apparently had limited supplies. Of course this created a fair amount of down time, which is included on the 3.5-4 hour total time worked.
When I got my final bill it was for a total of 6 hours, at a rate of $120.00/hour PLUS the owner charged 3.5 hours of HIS time at $68.00/hour for time he wasn't even at my home! When I questioned him about the bill he threatened to put a lien on my home so I could not close. He became very hostile and said I knew nothing about how the trades worked and that I should be grateful he was able to do the work for me and that the bill should have been even higher than what he charged. It was infuriating and outright blatant thievery.
I have been a homeowner for over thirty years, have worked in the trades and married to a man who has worked in the trades all his lief - I know full well how the trades work. If I had known his hourly rate was actually $120.00/hour PLUS $68.00/hour penalty rate above and beyone the workmans rate, I most certainly would have found someone else to do the work!
Nothing worse than being over the barrel, ripped off and your arm up your back all at the same time! Beware!
