First Choice Emergency Room Reviews

I went in to make sure I didn't have a broken bone in my back. I gave them my insurance, and paid a $150 deductible. I saw a nurse who took my vitals, and then they gave me a CAT scan. A doctor saw me after and wanted to do a blood test (?) so I let them. I thought they were very nice, until I got the bill for $14,400! I called my med rep for my insurance to see what they charged me for, and he told me that it looked to him "like they charged you $5000 just for walking in the door!" My insurance paid them approximately $13,000 (90%) but that that still left me paying an addition $1370.35.!! I did NOT have surgery! The CAT machine they used I found one for purchase for $50K! I called to get it reduced in Jan 2016, but they wouldn't go below $855.00 but demanded payment that day. I set up a revolving account to pay them what I could each pay day, starting then, but still got hit with a collection agency demanding $955 after I've already given them $320 +150 that they aren't accounting for, plus they added more! The collections agency has a doctors bill that I've never seen, and I doubt my insurance co. has either, of new account number, and for 157.60. I got a letter informing me my name was on a class action law suit against the company, so I filed the papers they sent, and stopped the payment plan from 7/2017, to 12/2017. I started it back up when I realized I was still obligated for the debt even though I was being notified of a case againt them.

This emergency room, doesn't just charge "emergency" room fees. They overcharge by 1000%! Then they have the gall to turn me into a collection agency when I was paying their rediculous fees as best I could... These "Stand Alone" emergency rooms are a huge RIP OFF! Govenor Abbott needs to shutdown the loop holes they operate under taking advantage of people.

I wasked having an allergic reaction and went to this establishment AFTER VERIFYING they were an in network provider with my health insurance provider. The visit was on 10/2015. I received ABSOLUTELY NO further correspondence from this place. Fast forward 16 months and my husband receives a voice mail from this company leaving the name of their company and for me to call them. I called and much to my surprise this is a COLLECTION SERVICE saying I owe almost $1600.00! Mind you the establishment AND the doctor who provided the services are in network for my health insurance. I am still in the midst of getting to the bottom of this but this is definitely dirty dealings. No Bill EVER sent to me, no contact EVER made and then 16 months later collection notice. WARNING DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!! IT IS A SCAM, A RIP OFF AND TO TOP IT OFF THE DOCTOR REALLY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING THAT BENADRYL could have done!!

The prices charged and the billing department practices of first choice emergency room are reprehensible. First choice charged more than $4,000 for a 45 minute visit that consisted of an x-ray of a pinkie toe. After receiving approximately $2,000 from two insurance companies, first choice was advised by blue cross/blue shield that because it was a participating provider no further charges could be assessed and that the patient was not responsible for any additional charges. Nevertheless, first choice continued to harrass us by sending us bills. Despite our advising first choice that no further charges could be assessed per the blue cross directive, first choice referred us to a debt collection company that sought to pursue a claim a claim against us. After numerous hours of seeking to clear up the matter, we were able to convince the debt collection company that there was no debt due. Despite the obvious violation by first choice of the fair debt collection laws, first choice refused to apologize in writing for its patently fraudulent conduct. As indicated in other Outscam and other reviews,it is quite clear that excssive billing and deceptive collection practices by this entity are not aberrational. Undoubtedly the mission statement of first choice must be to add insult to injury by mistreating the very patients it purports to treat. If this conduct is as widespread and systematic as it appear, a class action lawyer would be wise to file suit for repeated violations of debt collection practices.

On May 1, 2016, on a Sunday evening approximately 5:30 pm, I thought my left ankle was broken. Because this occurred on a Sunday, my primary physicians office was closed, Care Now offices in my area closed at 5:00 pm. Due to the severe pain, swelling and redness, I stopped at a nearby First Choice Emergency Room, believing I broke my ankle. I filled out their required paperwork and waited for about thirty minutes to be called back. After I was called to the back, I was put in a room to wait for the doctor. A doctor Walker came in and looked at my ankle and said it was a sprain, and wrote a prescription for Naproxen. Thats it!! There was no xray, no physical exam, nothing!! I was escorted out to a desk to pay a $150.00 co pay. Less than three weeks later I received a bill for $1425.00. For what?!!!

On March 19, 2016 I was seeking an Urgent Care Clinic opened on a Saturday. iI was returning home from a 4-day trip (employed as a Flight Attendant). I googled Urgent Care Clinic's in the Arvada, CO area and UCHEALLTH-corporate headquarters First Choice Emergency Room 2941 Lake Vista Dr. Lewisville,TX 75067 972-899-6666 was on the top of the internet engine search.

I called and spoke with the receptionist and advised I was seeking an Urgent Care Clinic to be treated for the flu and inquired on the hours of opeation and if they were in the United Health Care network. Based on this conversation I went to this clinic after arriving back to Colorado. I have used many Urgent Care Clinics over the years (since 1979) due to my irregular shifts and schedules.

I paid my co-pay of $50.00 and was in treated with half an IV saline solution, chest X-Ray, and blood tests.

I checked my insurance claim on March 31, 2016 and found to my dismay and horror that my United Health Care has been billed so far $7583.91. Out of pocket so far is $1301.06.

I went on quest and researched on-line and found so many stories like mine and complaints that have not been resolved. Most of the complaints include deceptive advertising practices. This company bills as an Emergency Room service and fees and the complaints reflect as myself the misleading paractice of this company as an Urgent Care Clinic and the outrageous billing for services.

I found a news report yesterday aired March 31, 2016 by reporter Cristin Severance with CBS DFW and she reporter on similiar cases as mine reference the practices of FIRTST CHOICE EMERGENCY ROOM-UCHEALTH. The title of the news cast is CONSUMER JUSTICE;AVOID BIG BILLS FOR EMERGENCY ROOM CARE.

I found this site with complaints and many other sites with similiar unresolved complaints.have As an elder consumer my concerns are that I was mislead on the nature of the facility, I was never informed by a staff member or any posting in the facility that this was not an URGENT CARE CLINIC. I was never given an itemized bill for services.

Why would I pay $1500.00 out of pocket to use this facility when I could gone to the Hospital Emergency Room for my $50.00 co-pay. Why have any government agencies investigated?
