I was recently fired from European wax center, They changed the center hours from 8:30am to 7:30am and recently 6:30am. I was able to make 7:30am work but 6:30am was hard. I am a single mother with no help. I explained to my manager that there is no before care or day care open that early in the morning. I finally thought I had it all worked out when I found a college student to help me out. It worked out for 2 days when he let me know he could not help me out because it made him late for school. That same night I emailed my manager and the owners that I would be one hour late because my babysitter bailed on me. I also asked if there was any way they would work with me.
The next morning I received text messages from my coworkers letting me know that themanager Miriam was there already ( she is never there before 8am unless there is a major problem) and she was in a really bad mood. As I walked in at 7:30am I put my phone on record because I had a feeling she was going to fire me due to the texts I received and sure enough I was fired right away. When I got home I filed for unemployment, 3 weeks later I receive mail from unemployment that my claim was denied. Miriam ( the manager ) told them I was fired because I emailed her and according to company policy I should have called her to let her know I was going to be late. I have plenty of text messages from her about scheduleing, so its okay for her to text and email.
When I was fired this was not mentioned to me at all and I still have the recording to prove it. Today I filed an appeal with unemployment and if I have to play the recording I will. Also the company handbook says the first time you will get a written warning for a no call no show. I was never written up once in the 2 years I worked there, I never had any verbal warnings or anything. I was a model employee and team player. I was a red level waxer with a pretty decent book. I live on my own with my child, I am his sole caretaker with full custody. Miriam the manager is fully aware of this as she would always tell me she understands how hard it is for me because she is a single mother also. This is a company that is supposedly pro women and closes down for mothers day. The franchise owners are disgusting, money hungry and dont care about employees.
Excuse me for being all over the place. The unemployment letter came today and I am quite upset, stressed out and do not know what I am going to do.
