I have been working on my credit and checked it one day to find a delinquent charge on my credit report. It was opened on November of 2017 for Enganced Recovery Company out of Jacksonville, FL. The originator Company was 11 Charter Communications. I had never heard of either of these companies and quickly filed a dispute. I emailed Enhanced Recovery Company asking them to cancel the claim but they wanted my address, full name, maiden name, last 4 digits of my social and a scanned copy of my credit report. I declined.

Kept getting letters saying I owed $1287 to Comcast Cable & threatening to report me to the 3 credit report agencies if I didn't pay. The invoice looked legit & they gave a phone # to call if I had questions, but I just thought it was a scammer since I've only used Satellite TV services for the last 25 years, so I ignored the letters. Recently, I was able to check my credit reports thru my bank on the Internet for free & the debt was listed on all 3 credit reports. I reported the fraud to one of the credit report agencies & after they investigated it, they said all the info was accurate, so therefore it wouldn't be removed. One of the options I was given was to call Enhanced directly to straighten out the problem. Everything sounded legit when I heard the recorded msg. & all the menu choices. When an agent came on the line, I explained why I was calling & he said I need to pull your file up, what is your social. And yes, I gave him my social & he put me on hold immediately. As soon as he did that, I thought why would he want my social yet he didn't even ask my name. After waiting a few mins. for him to come back on the line, I realized he had hung up on me & never put me on hold & now he had my social. I thought I was smart enough to outwit scammers & now when my husband comes home from work today, I have to tell him what happened & I'm just sick to my stomach. I can only assume his phone has the ability to see the name of the person calling so he can connect my social to my name. Does anyone know what to do in a case like this before your social get used?
