Is your life worth more than $150.00 dollars? My life wasn’t to this Doctor or his staff after treating me for over 3 years. I always thought this Doctor truly cared about his patients until recently. I experienced a horrible event that almost took my life, my family and everything we owned. All this because Dr. Joseph C. Shanklin, MD did not review the medication he was giving me.
For more than 3 years I was treated by Dr. Joseph C. Shanklin, MD for nightmares, major depression and not getting sleep for days at a time.
Dr. Joseph C. Shanklin, MD would continuously change my medications hoping to find the right one to help me, well he almost killed me. Yes, for 9 months I was on a combination of medication that made me lose most my eyesight, I started hallucinating, hearing invoices, I couldn’t even find my way home just 2 blocks from my house I have lived in for many years.
After 9 months of living with this not understanding what was happening to my body, I was at the point of suicide. 6 years ago I was on life support for 3 days unable to breathe on my own because I attempted suicide.
Finally contacted the hospital and they contact the local police to get me to the hospital. The doctors at the hospital immediately removed me from the medications Dr. Joseph C. Shanklin, MD had me on for 9 months. Needless to say, my eyesight returned in 3 days, I stopped seeing and hearing things and was able to find my way home by myself. Basically, he had me on some bad medications that were not working for me.
After i was released from the hospital with a scheduled appointment to see Dr. Joseph C. Shanklin, MD in 2 days. Well 2 days later I visit his office on time and he refused to see me until I paid him a $150.00. I was not able to pay and asked the staff if I could work out a payment plan, the answer was NO! This payment was from a visit missed because I have seizures and am unable to drive.
I asked the ladies at the front desk if my life was worth less than $150.00 dollars to them and Dr. Joseph C. Shanklin, MD. They actually shook their head yes in agreement while I was speaking. Well, I was speechless, I grabbed my granddaughter's hand and asked my wife to let’s please go.
I was horrified any Doctor would treat a patient like that. I felt like I was drowning and he was sitting beside me in a boat and pulled away leaving me for dead.
